Monday OOTD: Approved By Nina

A quick post today to brighten up this Saturday morning, that actually started very bright already. After the manhunt in Boston yesterday it feels like the whole USA, if not the whole world, has just breathed out a big breath of relief.

I mentioned in my last post an encounter with Nina Garcia (and no, she is not behind the Nina shoes, at least not that I know) so since I picked your curiosity I will just go ahead and tell you even if I have maybe created too much expectations and you are going to be disappointed.
It was last Monday and I was going to pickup my daughter. Like every day I was walking by "my" café on Madison (the one where I had breakfast with WWM and her husband when they came to NY and where I usually spot celebrities). Nina Garcia was sitting at one of the tables in the window, facing towards the street and was animatedly talking with someone (who was sitting with his/her back to me, so I couldn't see his/her face). Anyway, this would be hardly worth mentioning (even if I am a big Nina fan and just seeing her puts a big smile on my face) except that she actually looked at me and she smiled at my outfit with an approving nod, or at least I think she did (why would she smile at me otherwise, I don't know her and she surely doesn't know me. It isn't even that I see her so often that we became acquaintances, a thing that actually happened with Michelle Smith of Milly, who started to say Hi! to me at the playground). The outfit wasn't so special that you would think someone like Nina Garcia would stop doing what she was doing to run out and compliment me but it was very springy. Maybe she loves stripes too? This is the outfit (it was actually better because I had my BR white scarf loosely tied around my neck and it is true that it looked great):

The shirt isn't the boy shirt in stripe currently on the website but the factory version of the silk boy shirt from last year (I picked it up for $30 during the holidays). This shirt is great and actually of a better silk than the retail one and a bit longer. It has the same weight of the heartthrob one, which is heavier than the regular silk blouses and has a very nice drape. LOVE it! The blazer is the Theory double-breasted one that I bought in the Fall, it looked very chic with the scarf.
That's all about it (she actually smiled at me again on my way back so she must have really loved this outfit or at least I like to think so. Unless she remembered that a few years ago my daughter and her son played briefly together at the Central Park water basin, where I tried to ignore that the other mom was actually Nina Garcia).

Have a great Saturday!

  1. Not at all to burst your bubble (because I do love your style and because I'm sure Ms. Garcia appreciated it, too), but I also wonder if it is a PR thing on Nina's part. Celebrities are judged by another set of rules, especially when people these days feel like they "know" a celebrity simply because they saw the celebrity on tv. In return, a celebrity, in order to cultivate her audience, may be coached (perhaps by their PR rep) to not be caught up in their own little world, but to acknowledge others around them. I mean, if a stranger, like any another woman in the cafe were to acknowledge you the same way Nina did, would you be as flattered, or would you think it was weird because you don't "know" that person? And, yes, I would probably be that random woman in the cafe you thought was really weird for ogling your outfit. :)

    1. I don't know, she seems to be a genuine and approcheable person (maybe she has,a very good coach!) and in NYC people are very approcheable in general, celebrities or not. People start talking spontaneously to me in the street, which would NEVER happen in, say, Paris. And I am equally flattered when an unknown woman compliments me on what I am wearing, it is just not "post material" ;-).

  2. Of COURSE she loved you and your outfit? WHo wouldn't??? I love Nina - is her hair as fabulous irl? Darn - I wish she had been there for Barry and I!!!! I think your outfit looks great. I think she must be very friendly and assume she lives somewhere in your neighbourhood? It was a great cafe!

  3. I'll bet she remembered your face from when your children played, noticed your outfit and when you made eye contact (and she recognized she knew you from somewhere),thought it appropriate to let you know she approved of your style! It's a great, classic look you put together. I could see Nina herself wearing it. Next time you see her, maybe you can become friends!

    1. I don't think she remembers me, it was a long time ago, my daughter was 3 max.
I would live to become friends with her but I don't think she would be interested! Plus, I really can't see myself going to her and say "Hi! Do you want to be my friend?"

  4. Of course Nina loved your outfit! I love it, too - classic pieces, appropiate for time of day and occasion, well fitted and becoming. Brava!

  5. A nod from one chic woman to another. But, it is quite possible that she remembers your face Some people are very, very good w/facial recognition. Even celebs who see hundreds of different people on a regular basis.
