Two days ago I was in to make a return (a swimsuit that I had bought for my husband and he didn't like, as 99% of the stuff that I buy for him). It was a Wednesday and I had one of those Wednesday 40% off coupons valid on one full price item that I generally spend on stuff for my daughter. But this time I spent it on a pair of shoes for myself.
If you have been reading my blog for a while you also know that I like Tory Burch shoes and I have luxury tastes when it comes to shoes. I have been tempted to buy the Eddie flats in Royal tan but then decided to save my money for the Sallies (that as you know I have bought in the classic navy). Well, the Gap came up with the perfect Eddie knockoff, the City flats that come in an array of colors including an in-store only tan that looks exactly like the Tory tan:

Not only these are much more affordable of course ($39.50 but I paid $24 with the coupon), but they have a padded sole that is actually better than the unpadded one of the Eddies. The leather (yes, they are real leather) is buttery-soft and they come in a very chic pouch (in the same color) for easy transportation:

I tell you, they are the perfect foldable flats: anybody needs a pair of these, especially if you commute or travel frequently (I generally travel in my Revas but I am going to switch to these for my next trip to Europe in a few weeks).
Size-wise I bought my regular size, even if Gap shoes tend to fit big (I was sized out of the equally fantastic ballet flats this spring). However, since these come in half sizes (bonus), you can order one half size up if you want to be sure that the elastic is not too snug in the back (mine is not even in my regular size but I know that people often complain about this).
I think that the tan color is terrific (there were a very few left in my local store), even if going towards fall you may want to choose the purple, black or the in-store only navy or grey (I am probably going back and get another pair in navy the next time that I have a coupon available).
If I haven't convinced you, maybe the enthusiastic reviews on the Gap product page will. And if you live near a Gap (who doesn't?), check them out as soon as possible before they sell out (especially if you like the tan color or the pink).
If you want to stick to the original Eddies (which are actually already a knockoff of the impossibly expensive Lanvin flats), they now come in a new patent leather for fall.
Do you own a pair of City flats? Do you have the TB Eddies?
oooo...gotta go and try them on now! this is not good for my wallet :)
ReplyDeleteYep. Had to grab a pair of these in believe it or not..black! I'll be back for a color next coupon. Crossing fingers they have the 45% off out again=)
ReplyDeleteBTW-your trip looked marvelous and of course, you looked chic as usual=)
Great find! I LIVE in TB revas and while they are supremely comfortable, I don't like wear them for hours upon hours of walking as the rubber sole wears down quite quickly. This would be a perfect flat for walking that I wouldn't be sad about banging up a little.
ReplyDeleteI actually saw these in the Gap last week, i am disappointed in myself that i did not use my coupon's and get a pair!! Boo! I don't even remember how i got these coupons in the first place......do you have to buy something in store to receive the coupons?? Anyway, thanks for this post,i LOVE these and need to get a pair, in this tan color!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you can believe it, I do NOT live near a Gap. I know, right?
ReplyDeleteOy... I may head to the big city next week for school shoes for my daughter, I'll definitely be looking for these.. the color is the PERFECT tan!
I was just about to say they look like the Lanvin ones.
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of Marni patent shoes just like that - I wear them all summer, they are amazing but they are getting a bit worn now and I was just saying that I need a newer version, these would be perfect, they go with everything and lengthen the leg - great find Ema.
I had on the TB yesterday, they really nip my toes, I don't think I'lll buy them again.
I am impatiently waiting for mine - ordered the black ones with the 30% GAP promo.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this review! I am totally going to check these out!
ReplyDeleteI trust your review 100% bc I do know you have excellent taste in shoes!
Saw these in Gap yesterday and was pretty impressed by them. Seems as though they run at least a 1/2 size small, because my normal 8.5 was a little snug. They didn't have a 9 for me to try. I really liked the tan and purple colors! Love the carrying case, too. I have another brand's black ballet flats w/pouch that I use at work when my feet are crumpled by heels and I just can't make that last walk to my car :)
ReplyDeleteYou are right... I NEED these shoes. I must check them out today.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reviewing them.
Hello, thanks for the real life pics of these shoes. i live about 40 miles away from the closest gap, so i dont get to go as often as i'd like, but these shoes really do look like a winner! how did you get a 40% off coupon? thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you for chiming in ladies, I see am not the only one to like these.
ReplyDeleteLaure (and mrs.anketell), they keep the 40% off coupons at the register so they will give you one when you buy something but if you know about them you can ask and they will give them to you even if you don't buy anything. It's a month-long promotion (they give you a little book with a 40% coupon for each Wednesday in the month) and they normally start to distribute them the month before, ie for the July promotion they were giving them away in June. Because it was the last Wednesday of the July promo I asked if they had the coupons for the month of August, but they didn't know if the promo was going to be continued in August (at this point they should already have given them away). I will keep you posted if I see them the next time that I go in.
Laure if you are 40 miles away the good plan would be to go on a Wednesday (knowing that they are having the promo) and ask for the coupons, so that you can use one immediately.
HTH!
Oh, as soon as I saw your article, I went down to the local Gap and bought a pair! Thanks for the heads-up! Now, should I buy them in red also... hmmmmm :-D
ReplyDeleteI raved about these in my blog too - they are the BEST flats ever! I just randomly tried them on, expecting them to pinch like all others of this style, but they are insanely comfortable. I want every color, but took home the tan, which is the absolute best tan ever.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the info. After i read your blog post on the shoes i had my husband (who works 50 miles away, so therefore passes the gap on his way home) stop in and get me the tan pair. once i tried them on i was sold and then ordered the purple and dark red online using a 20% off visa promo and their free ship over $50. so i got a bit of a deal on the 2 colors i liked available online. my husband said they didnt offer a coupon when he checked out though:( but next time i will be sure to ask the cashier!!! thanks again!
