But of course they got me again. What could I possibly need more than what I already have? The lolli pants, apparently! I have to say that they didn't strike my fancy when they came out an made a buzz on the JCA. But I really, really like the following look from the holiday catalog and when I realized that I could easily reproduce it, withstanding the lolli pants (now sold-out online), I had to have them:

At first I thought that the model in the picture was wearing the cashmere turtleneck in heather cobblestone, that I have and is the only cashmere turtleneck that I bought this year, but she is probably wearing the heather orchid as the cobblestone is a "fall" color that went on sale and isn't offered anymore (so glad that I bought it with my Mickey card). In any case the effect is very similar. My pumps are the grey Juliet patent and suede heels from last year:

I don't have the Bonbon coat (I don't need another coat but I really like this one), but I have the Script from last year in a similar neutral shade:

I have to be honest: I wasn't completely sold on the pants because the bright dahlia is a shade that is not in my usual color palette and very unusual for pants but they are really growing on me. As you can see the retail version doesn't have a zipper at the ankle and has a cuffed hem. I am not sure if the website version and store version differ or the pic in catalog shows an older version that didn't make it to production (please chime in if you have them and you bought them from the website). Even if I knew about it, I was a little bit shocked when I first saw in person that they are unlined and very thin. You would think that a pair of pants that comes out in the Holiday catalog when half of the country is under the snow could be a little bit more weather-appropriate and lined. However, they are flattering like that and NOT ITCHY AT ALL (no worries, I have sensitive skin on my legs). I bought my usual size 0 and I find them TTS to a little bit big.
I tried a few different outfits/color combinations with them. The first is very similar to the cobblestone turtleneck, the Olive top in dark charcoal. This top is one of my favorite JCrew pieces, as you probably know if you are a regular follower:

I have only another item in my closet in a similar color as the bright dahlia. It's the cashmere v-neck cardigan from last spring (this is the one that I paid something like $35. I am still kicking myself for letting the navy and the black go, also because the yarn is thicker than many sweater in the current offerings). The color was called bright plum and it is a little bit more intense than the color of the pants. I think they work together exactly because they are very similar but not the exact same color. What do you think? Too much of the same? Little Red Hat effect?

Of course it works with a black top. I reorganized a little bit my closed yesterday and found the silk posy top from last year, that I had completely forgot to have (you know, it was under a cardigan). I really, really love it with the pants (of course I would wear black shoes):

The cardigan is the Dulphine open one. I am a little bit on the fence about this one. I like that it's very slim and short for us petites but it's more casual than I thought and the fact that it is sheer means that it doesn't look good over tee shirts. Thoughts?
Another dress-up look, with the silk ruffle cascade jacket in wild blackberry (navy) from last year (this is up for sale, BTW) and the crystal symphony necklace:

This last look is a little bit hazardous. I am sure that it would make a great holiday catalog look, but in real life? Too harlequin-esque? The color of the satin soiree jacket has more green in it IRL than it appears in the pic though and the contrast between the two bright colors is nicer than here:
I like that they are an unusual but still wearable choice for the day and they easily dress up for the evening. I can't wait to wear them this holiday season.
What do you think of the Lolli pants? Which one of the outfits above do like better?
I love those pants!! I dont' think I have ever commented before, but I always love your outfits. They are so chic!!
ReplyDeleteThe pants look great on you. I love the idea and the color, but I know they aren't cut for me. Interesting that the retail version has no zippers (shudder) and I'm really surprised - even with all the cost-cutting - that they are unlined!
ReplyDeleteI love all your combinations except the similar-toned cardi and the olive-y jacket. The other options are so much stronger :)
Ema, these look fantastic on you! Seriously. They may not be part of your color palette, but they really work on you. My favorites are the outfits with black on top. I also really like the tonal look, although I think you need *something* to break it up just a bit. Great outfits!
ReplyDeleteThe pants fit you so well, very flattering. That colour is what my mom would call "shocking pink". Not in my comfort zone for sure (and def. not on my bottom half) but it's so pretty on you. I like it the best paired with the Olive top from 09 (I'm kicking myself for not ordering it to at least try on). Thanks for the pics and review!
ReplyDeleteThe pants are great. I love the color, and especially with the turtleneck and Script coat. Those heels are perfect.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to have bought any pants this season it would have been those, though I think the retail version with the cuff is the best.
Cute, unusual colour!
ReplyDeleteI like them best styled with the heather cobblestone turtleneck and then a close second with the silk ruffle cascade jacket.
I agree- the best combo is with the wild blackberry jacket for the neutral. I like all your outfits, though.
ReplyDeleteEma, you nicely placed these pants on hold for me at the 5th Av. store and they are on their way. Love how you've styled them, I'm going to steal your idea with the olive top. I also ordered the cashmere cowlnecks in black and gray (when they were on sale) and hope they go with them as well.
ReplyDeleteI think they look FANTASTIC on you-----a nice pant option, as to our usual black/tan/jeans look, eh?!! Love the gray top with them, and the black on top. BTW, I think the black open cardigan looks great on, haven't seen it in person, but i do like it.......now, getting anything with the current percent off sale promo going now?????!!!!
ReplyDeleteHI! Just read your comment on the jca blog--what color of the vintage amour tank ddi you get?? im thinking of getting the dark charcoal one, love these, esp. now w/ the sale!!
ReplyDeleteYou are selling your silk ruffle cascade jacket? I am definitely interested..can you email me the size/price? I can pay you asap!! :)

Love the pants on you! Definitely worth the FP. I especially love it with the darker grey top you paired it with in the second picture. perfect for holiday party!
ReplyDeleteRachel, thanks and thank you for commenting!
ReplyDeletemommydearest, yes it was a little bit of a shocker that they are unlined and so thin!
AppGal, thank you. I am going to try the tonal look with a dark top under the cardi and the cardigan left open and a belt. Thanks for chiming in!
ClosetCrisis, I would call them "shocking pink" too (maybe I am the same age of your mom)!
DaniBP, I love them but definitively not a good buy for the weather that you have up there!
Rose and Carol, thanks for chiming in.
Kris, you are welcome, I hope that you like them. Actually I have to thank you because I decided to try them on when I put them on hold for you ;-). They should look great with the two cowlnecks.
mrs.anketell, yes a little bit unusual for me as you say ;-).
So I got the amour tank in the dark pewter, which is the color that I tried in store. It is a lighter grey than charcoal, if you want to go with a dark color I would do navy. It's VERY PRETTY and sparkling IRL.
ElleBelle, I have someone else interested, I will email you if still available. It's a size 0. I have too many navy jackets and for some reasons I don't wear it.
Emily, thank you ans thank you for stopping by.
I absolutely think you are SPOT ON with all the ways you styled these pants! I would wear those EVERY SINGLE Way you styled them up!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look perfect on you!
I grabbed the lolli pants last week in store, I LOVE them so! They look great every way you styled them. I will have to try mine with the olive top.
ReplyDeleteI have also worn them with the new bloussana top and the black and white buffalo check shirt
Lolli Pant (cuffed retail version) — if anyone is interested I have a pair NWT in a SZ 4 for $90 shipped.
