A Lady Lace Popover and Two Factory Items

Good morning! First, I noticed that I have a few new followers so I wanted to welcome them to the blog and also thank all the "old" followers that are still reading this blog.

Back to business, yesterday I received an order that I placed last week during the 30% off promo and because in that order I had two factory items that don't get many reviews, I thought that I would do a post about them.
The two items are the Factory double-serge pencil skirt (tem # 37415) in golden mustard and the Factory perfect shirt in suckered gingham (in the bright hydrangea color). The other items in my order were the lady lace popover in heather grey and the gingham Sonoma shorts and will also see those.

I was mostly curious about the pencil skirt. I had a pencil skirt craving but didn't want to spend $100 on one of the pencil skirts currently available on the main website so I settled for this factory version of the double-serge (that costed me half the price). What decided me was this "golden mustard" color that looked on my monitor as a gorgeous warm yellow (as opposed to the citrony yellow of the No. 2 pencil skirt, that is not for me).
The color didn't disappoint in real life. It is a very sunny and warm yellow, similar to the "honey" color, perfect for summer (not at all mustard-y IMO). The 0 fits well but it is a style with darts and the darts create sort of a pouch on my tummy (also the fabric is a little bit textured, like the double serge from 2009, and lighter than the no. 2, so it wrinkles much easier as you can see in the pics). I prefer the straight version without darts, but I think that for the price I am going to keep it because the color is really unique. This is a 0 and it is almost knee-lenght on me (I am wearing it with the lady lace popover in a XS. That's actually the outfit that I had planned to wear for Mother's Day, weather permitting):

Here is with the suckered gingham skirt tucked in so you can see the construction of the skirt. As you can see if you zoom on the third picture, it has the two seamings that run in the back like last year double serge (I know that this was a deal-breaker for some):

Now, re. the suckered gingham shirt, I saw (and tried) the one that is currently in the stores and retails for $72 (I mean this one that comes in more colors in stores) and the fabric of this one is virtually the same. But the fit is much more relaxed/oversized as you can see (IT IS NOT the perfect shirt fit). The sleeves in particular are super-long on me (I ordered a XS):

However, since I am planning to wear it in a very relaxed/casual way (with sleeves rolled up and jeans/white pants), I am going to keep it because I paid only $35 and I know that the other one will take forever to go on sale. And I NEED another suckered gingham shirt ;-).
When tucked in it is really cute. Here I am clearly having "gingham overdose" (but I kind of like it):

The Sonoma shorts were a little bit of a gamble. I ordered a size 0 knowing that the 2 would fit better as I had tried them in store. The 2 was sold-out but I wanted to take advantage of the 30% off and because final sale is temporarely in a limbo I decided to try out the 0. They aren't too small and if I can't find a 2 for an even exchange I think I will be fine with them, especially in the summer with a tan.

All in all I am happy with this order and the fact that there was no final sale was a huge plus.
What do you think? Should I return something in your opinion? Any question let me know.

  1. I really like the yellow of the skirt and it is a great fit on you, really flattering keep it!
I also bought the Lady Lace in the black and I really love it. It is elegant yet comfortable and seems very well made.
Love your gingham picks too and you look like you have a tan already! Like the two of them together.
    Thanks for the reviews.

  2. I'm so glad you reviewed some Factory items. I haven't bought any and have been curious about how they compare to regular JC items.
I love the skirt. It is a wonderful, sunny color.
I'm a sucker for gingham so I like the shorts and the shirt. Sleeves that cover my hands are annoying, though. I'm 5'3" and wonder if they'd be even longer on me.
I've been admiring the lady lace popover since I first saw it. It looks very pretty on you.

  4. DaniBP, yes that yellow is really a great color for a summer pencil skirt (I don't remember them offering a pencil skirt in this color in recent years. It would be a hit). I remember you mentioning on the jca that you got the lace popover in black, isn't it great? Unfortunately this one arrived with a defect so I don't know yet if I am going to keep it (probably not if I can refrain myself from wearing it on mother's day).

maryeb, I am 5'2" so the sleeves are probanly going to look the same way on you. It doesn't bother me because I always wear my other one with the sleeves rolled up.

Dinster, your comment was too funny. The slippers are $0.99 that you could see everywhere in the streets in Manhattan but now you can find mostly in Chinatown and stores like Jack's 99c. I can't resist, every time that I see a pair I have to buy them (they come in all the colors of the rainbow).

  9. Ema, I've been reading your blog for a long time although I've never commented before. I'm just wondering why you're keeping items that don't fit you perfectly. If you had tried on the pencil skirt and the gingham shirt in a store first, would you have bought them? I'm not in favor of keeping items you're not 100 percent happy with just because they were good deals.
I think you can find a gingham shirt that fits you much better. Also I thought with your casual lifestyle you don't have many occasions to wear pencil skirts. I'm surprised to hear you say you need one. Hope you don't mind my honesty.
