I have a confession to make: I am becoming a Loft full-price buyer. I am incredibly impressed with the Loft this season and I keep finding stuff that not only is very good quality for the price but is also very different from what I find at JCrew, which sometimes feels like a breath of fresh air when you spend your day obsessing over one retailer's Catalog. I also noticed that the good stuff tend to disappear very quickly, at least at my store and in my size, and while I used to wait for a coupon before buying anything there, now I just go for it.
I wanted to share three of my recent finds, that are now 30% off with the current limited-time promotion on full-price purchases (go to the website for code and infos).
When I first saw the Graphic Stripe Sweater Skirt it was love at first sight. I have seen a lot of skirts "inspired by" Missoni but I can tell you that this one is as close to the real thing as it gets (I recently tried a Missoni piece in store and was slightly underwhelmed compared to its Loft knockoff, no joke). It is extremely comfortable to wear (no lurex in it) and is very flattering, it has a magic slimming effect even if it is a knit. It has pockets, which is always a bonus.
This is the XS, fits TTS:
The only problem with this skirt is the color. I don't have many things to pair with it and nothing that really matches the turquoise and teal in the skirt. I had to buy the tee in the first pic to have an option other than white to wear with it. So I am not 100% sure that I am going to keep it for that reason but I think that it is an awesome skirt.
The day when I bought the skirt I noticed a dress in the same wave but in neutral colors, the Wavy Stitch Stripe Sweater dress. I gave it a try and decided to buy it as well because it seemed like something that could travel very easily and be the perfect candidate for my vacation suitcase (I am going to Italy in August). At that time I sort of liked the skirt better because the colors are more summery and I was a bit bummed that the dress didn't come in that turquoise as well.
Since then I changed my mind. This has become one of my favorite all-time dresses. It has the same slimming effect of the skirt and it is close to wearing nothing on a hot day. This is the XS as well, that day the temperature neared 100 degrees and I felt fresh all day:
Warning: this is the kind of dress that men tend to like, so be prepared if you buy it. I received several whistles from street workers and I can tell you, that hadn't happened in a very long time. I felt a bit Sophia Loren in this dress, it has that power on you. Besides the street workers, I received a compliment from every single person I talked to that day (I was looking for a present so I went into every other boutique on Madison and every single SA or client complimented me on the dress).
This is the outfit that I wore (less the necklace, I thought that the dress was enough and plus my Stubbs and Wooton espadrilles, that really added to the outfit):
Something that I am kicking myself for not buying full price in store is the Sunwash tee in neon kiwi (which is really neon yellow). This tee is awesome as well, and it is perfect to wear with the Tina Turks for BR shorts that you have seen in a previous post. Now it is sold-out in my store and it is going to be the hassle.
Last, I often hear on the JCA people complaining about the lack of silver-toned jewelry at Jcrew. It is true that most of the JCrew jewelry is gold-toned and these days I find myself gravitating towards the silvers. The Loft is the place to go if you are looking for inexpensive silver-toned jewelry, most of their necklaces are priced $34.50.
In particular I was looking for a pendant-style necklace to wear casually on a white tee. I found this one today that not only has silver hardware but also white stones (this is my OOTD, BTW, and that tee is the factory version of the vintage cotton lace tee):
Have you stopped at the Loft recently? What do you think of their offerings this season? Would you wear the "Sophia" dress?
I'm a big fan of Ann Taylor & Loft.
ReplyDeleteHow do you feel Loft's quality and choice of materials measures up to JCrew or other retailers?
Jane, I never shop at Ann Taylor because the style is too working girl for me.
DeleteI never had a quality problem with the Loft, the tees hold up very well and I never has a split seam or unraveling hem. The choice of fabrics is another story. There is almost no silk and one of the reason why I don't care for their tops is that they are mostly poly or viscose/acetate. However, the prices reflect this and the dame top would cost at least 50% more at JCrew. I also find that they really improved the colors especially in tge tees, which are better tgan the JCrew ones IMO. I hppe I have answered ypur question.
Sorry for typos, damn touch screen...
DeleteHi ema,i cant comment on the Loft,
ReplyDeletebut i have a question for you.
Could you tell me the name of the outlet again, that is between Milano and Genua. We didnt make it last year and are trying again this year.
We are going to the ligurian coast(savona) and pass by Milano.
TIA
Ina, it is called "Serravalle" and the exit is midway between Milano and Savona, you can't miss it. I used to spend all my summer in Alassio with my parents, I know tgat coast very well... Have a great vacation!
DeleteEma, I received an email from Loft this morning. Big sale this afternoon - 50% off the entire store from noon to 7:00 pm!
ReplyDeleteLove the turquoise skirt - you should definitely keep it. That dress is smashing on you. I am going to see if I can find it today!
I received it too. If I can I will go to another store to look for the neon yellow tee and will yry to rebuy the necklace and the other tee (I think the dress and skirt are going to be tough and I already rebought the dress with the 30% off).
DeleteHave you been to the new Rock Center store? Wondering if they have more merchandise
I often forget about the Loft even though it is near my local J Crew. I don't get their emails anymore - my in box gets overwhelmed - but your post made me take another look. I do remember seeing a lot of cute pieces in their Fall preview online, so I'll have to sign up soon for those emails. Your new items are very cute.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Loft in a while, but these are all really cute options. I'm going to stop by this weekend. Thanks for the reviews.
ReplyDeleteHi Ema, how about wearing gray or green with the skirt? I like the Sophia dress on you, no wonder you got all those compliments! And I heart you all white outfit, it looks so fresh and easy. I love white denim but cannot wear jeans in the summer, I feel oppressed, so I stick with my capris and scout chinos.
ReplyDeleteI signed up to their mails only recently but they have very good promos (every once in a while they send an email for $50 off every $100 order from 8 pm to 8 am), so if you plan to buy more often there it is worth it.
ReplyDeletemaryeb, they have really cute stuff but it was madness today at the stores that I visited, so I hope that you will find something good tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteajc, I think that besides that turquoise and white the other color that looks best with the skirt is yellow but I don't have a lot of yellow either (and you are right, grey is an option too). In any case I am going to keep it because I could repurchase it today for half price (love that!). I knew you would love my outfit ;-)
ReplyDeleteI was on my way to Loft today and ran out of time. I didn't want to tax Granny Day Care (my mom) who had already been w/Mini for hours. I sooo don't need another thing, but I am always curious about what retailers are doing. How they are changing, evolving. And Loft has been very interesting to watch. Thanks for sharing the pics, hot mama. You looked awesome in the dress. Loves it w/the necklace and if your hair was pulled back....(whistles)
ReplyDeleteHi, I may be missing something, but the LOFT dress, and skirt you bought are both 40% off online(think you mentioned paying full price!). They also have the tshirt you want, and it is 40% off as well. LOVE your blog! My husband and I are visiting NYC in September. Hoping to visit some of the places you mention!
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley, thank you for being an enthousiast reader! I did buy both of them fp because I thought they would sell out quickly but I could rebuy the skirt at 50% off the day of the promo and the dress for 30% off so I am pretty happy with these prices. I also had good karma with the tee because I found one at my store this weekend, after looking for it everywhere, probably a return.
DeleteLove the "Sophia" dress on you. I'd whistle at you too if I knew how! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt! With the skirt, have you tried Navy blue? My wardrobe doesn't have any turquoise either as a rule but I did buy a few pieces this summer. I have been putting it with navy or grey.
I used to dress solely in black, grey and stone taupe.
This summer has seen me break out of that mould and add navy, several greens and the cobalt blue. My turquoise pieces are the most recent. Seeing as I've been getting more compliments since I've been adding colour I may have to keep at it!
Love your white outfit! So fresh! I like the silver jewelry best with it. Sometimes the gold with the white can make a woman look older, IMHO of course! ha ha
Navy blue doesn't work because the skirt has black in it (and I think black on top is too dark). However, since I could rebuy it for 50% off the original price I returned that turquoise tee and got a knit top (sort of a lightweight sweater) in the same color that goes really well with the skirt and another one in white so I am all set :-).
DeleteI agree, silver looks fresher with white than gold and yay for adding more color to your wardrobe! Thanks for following
Ema, yes, I did stop and discovered 50% off sale for the entire store, sale included. I think I'd die from joy if JCrew ever did the same. Dream on.:) My pics are different- I got floral capris and animal print light skinny denims.Overall very happy.
