So I had a lot to blog about this week but I didn't get around to it. Let's hope that next week I will settle in a more reliable blogging routine.
I wanted at least to post the pics of the outfit that I wore yesterday to dinner with hubby and friends because I think that the Striped tie-front top is now on sale in the stores. This has become my favorite summer top ever (Dani, you were right to tell me to get it!) and if initially the price was on the high end of the spectrum (it was really a splurge) it has been now reduced to a very little cost-per-wear. I also forgot to mention in my previous post about this top that despite what the website description says, it is NOT dry clean but machine washeable (I washed it already and it came out perfect). Yay!
My girlfriend is a writer and not interested in the least in things like shopping and clothes. I have never seen her wearing a skirt so when we go out with them I tend to dress casually and wear pants (even if we go to an upscale restaurant like in this case).
I built my outfit around my new Madewell anchor belt, that I have ordered during their free shipping promo around 4th of July. I have to thank my blog pal ajc for sporting this belt on her blog, I tend to forget about Madewell. This belt is my only concession to the anchor trend, it gives any outfit a subtle maritime flair without being too in you face (a warning if you are contemplating to order it: it runs very large. I ordered a small and I had to add two holes to wear it on the hips). It is a pant belt so I was looking for a pair of pant to wear with it and after discarding an old pair of JCrew white wide-legged trousers I picked out these Theory linen pants that were a favorite of mine but I haven't worn in a few years because they had become too small (I couldn't button them anymore). To my surprise they fit decently again and they are the same exact shade of blue of my tie-front striped top, so it came naturally to pair them with the top. Theory has the best pants out there but they are cut for very thin women and if you have a minimum of curves they tend to have a sausage cage effect. However, when they fit well, they REALLY fit well (these have a bit of stretch in them):
A panama hat really gives this outfit a nice finishing touch. In the end I didn't wear it because there were a very few hours of daylight left and I also thought that there wouldn't be enough room on the table to put it during dinner (because clearly I wasn't going to eat with my hat on). However, I will wear it the next time that I wear this outfit:
I really loved this outfit, but hers is another outfit that I wore featuring this top tucked in:
Do you have this top or the Madewell anchor belt?
I was contemplating getting this belt, because i saw it an ajcs blog and really loved it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe i get it with the FS that madewell has now.
I have a question for you ema. I wanted to order a pufferjacket or a coat from jcrew this year, but i have never had one from jcrew and am unsure of the sizing. We are similiar from height and weight(i think).
could you tell me what size you buy your coat/pufferjacket?
Anything i need to now when ordering?
Thank you!!
ina, I have broad shoulders and I am a 34C so the coat size I am most comfortable in is a 2. I can fit in a 0 but it usually pulls a bit in the shoulders. In the puffers that are sized xxs-xl I am a xs. I have the Wintress puffer from last year in a XS and it is perfect. I wouldn't size down. I think that coats come out pretty late at JCrew, like somewhere in October. HTH!
DeleteForgot to ask,do you know when the jackets will be online?

Ema, how much is the top for sale in stores? I don't think my
ReplyDeleteB&M ever got it. Thanks!
Hi Jackie, I saw one in the sale section but it wasn't marked down. I assumed it was on sale but it could have been that it was misplaced. I will try to investigate and report back!
DeleteWhat a fabulous outfit with the Theory pants!! It was the right call to keep the top! If you don't mind me asking, is your Panama hat from J. Crew? I am just wondering.. I tried the Panama hat at J. Crew but it didn't fit my head very well. I am going to be in New York in a couple weeks and I'm planning to hunt down a real, good quality Panama hat but no idea what stores to go to.
ReplyDeleteLouise, I am sorry the hat I am wearing is not for sale. I got it last year for free at the Bastille Day celebration, it was one of the stuff that they gave away (it has a Ricard written on the blue ribbon).
DeleteI am not a hat expert, sorry if I can't help. I only know that if you happen to be in Italy the brand to look for is Borsalino (they are very expensive but supposedly the best).
Very cute! How does the top run, size-wise? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt runs tts to slightly big. If you want it a bit shorter size down. I am wearing a 0 and it is a bit swingy. I tried a 00 and it looked too small on me (like I was wearing child's clothing) but it wasn't pulling or anything. Hope it makes sense
DeleteI am so happy to see that top on you. It is so Ema and I know you loved it! Some things are worth the price!
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is great, the anchor belt is perfect with it.
Hi Dani, yes, that was good advice! I am impressed with tbe belt, the leather is luxurious.
DeleteHave fun tonight at our friend's ;-)!
What a great outfit. The hat is so cosmopolitan. I always admire your combinations!
