OOTD: Oh Jules!

As you might remember I bought the paisley Jules almost as soon as it came out. I thought that this one would sell out at full price but the fact that it is so short probably turned a lot of people off so I could have waited for it to go on sale. I don't regret it though because at least I have worn it a couple of time this Fall and now it is a bit too cold for it. Well, actually it has been very warm for the season but I don't like to feel the silk twill on my skin at this time of the year. And the swish-swish noise of the fabric makes me shiver. What about you?
Anyway, here are a couple of evening outfits that I wore. I think that with this dress you have to keep it simple because of the busy print:

I wore the last one to dinner with my husband and a collegue of him who was visiting from another office. My husband surprisingly loves this dress, go figure.
I wore it again to lunch with him and my daughter the Monday after Thanksgiving, when my daughter was still home from school. We had a gift card for one of the best restaurant in the city, Eleven Madison Park, and since we could never get a reservation for dinner we decided to treat ourselves for lunch. When we got there the waiter installed us at our table and after he gave us some water he told us that the lunch would take 3 to 4 hours. What? Can you imagine a 5 years old sitting at a restaurant table for 4 hours? As we found out, they only serve their 16 courses tasting menu (that costs $195), even at lunch. Who has the time to sit for 4 hours at lunch in the city? So in the end we were transferred to the bar where we could order a la carte (that wasn't cheap either but at least took us less than two hours). I wore a mustardy colored tissue turtleneck under the dress (it was a cold day) and to me that's the best color pairing for this dress along with spermint (I forgot to take a pic of the outfit).

Now, I have been watching the black wool one for a while and when it dropped to $89 I ordered it to try. I have to say that this time around the website styling really made me pull the trigger, I love this look from head to toe:

It arrived yesterday and I love it. It is the perfect lenght on me but as you know I am 5'2" so I can get away with it. I have a white tissue turtleneck so I immediately wanted to recreate the look:

The wool version strikes me as a bit more A-line than the silk twill one but maybe it is because it is a solid color. I went with my regular size 0 and I have enough room in the shoulders even with something underneath. I do think that it needs a necklace to brighten it up a bit and I think that the white bubble looks really great (remember how some of you told me when I bought it that I could wear it in the winter too? Well, you were right!):

A tessel one or one with a big pendant are also an option. This one doesn't work wery well with the white turtleneck because it is cream and black colored but the style works with the dress:

I love that stock pic so much that I seriously considered ordering the metallic Martinas but then reason prevailed (how many times am I going to wear golden closed shoes?) However, I couldn't resist the Betsey Jonhson Minzie in gold for $24. They could be unwalkable but for $24 I can wear them around the house (they are returnable but I don't think I am going to bother unless I can't get them in my feet). By the way, 6pm.com is having a crazy sale today in honor of 12/12/12 so check it out (the best deals are on Pour La Victoire shoes, with many pairs at $24. Unfortunately my size is very popular but if you are a big size you might be lucky).

The wool Jules is now $59.99 and really a steal with the 25% off. I am a bit tempted to order the red too, since I don't have any red dresses, but I am trying to stick to the "only one in each style" rule (I have alreay made an exception with the black one but the Italian paisley one is so different that I decided it doesn't count).

Are you a Jules addict? Is the wool Jules tempting you now that is very cheap?

  1. I wish I could wear those dresses, I'm definitely too tall.
I am surprised by how nice the black one looks, I can see that it has more of an a-line as well, very nice. Does it have a big hem?

    1. Dani, it has a 2 inches hem, not sure if it is going to be enough. I have to warn you about the lining: it is poly of the worst type, you are not going to like it!

    2. Thanks Ema. I was thinking if I did order it I would have to have it re-lined, I just knew they'd be using that poly. A 2" hem is pretty good though, thanks for letting me know!

  2. I loved that catalog look, too. The addition of the bubble necklace really makes the outfit pop.

Do you order your usual size in the tissue turtleneck or size up? It seems the white would be very sheer.

    1. The turtleneck is not a JCrew, I should have specified that (it is a Joe Fresh). I am not sure about the sizing this year, last year I had to return them because the xs was giant. Sorry I am not too helpful. The white is going to be sheer, that I know for sure!

  3. Ema, the paisley really suits your colouring. For some reason the black with the turtleneck really reminds me of a nun's habit (blame that on early years of catholic school). But the bubble, or your new gold shoes, take it to a whole other place - as does the length ;-)

    1. Yes I do well with thos caramel-y and mustard-y colors. I thought about the nun too but I think the golden shoes sets it off. I hope the cheapies work!

  5. hi, Ema, we survived the tasting menu at 11 Madison, and some of it was good, some of it was "because we can" dishes, and some of it was downright silly. I will not discuss the little lectures that preceded each course (and were probably why the food was cold). You made a wise choice to opt for the bar. 4 hours of that was a very long 4 hours.

  6. It's so fun to see the irl version of the turtleneck & dress. Agree w/GetFresh and also briefly thought of a nun's habit, but it really works. I like it w/the white bubble, too. Get a slip for the noisy dress. It will also be another little layer for warmth. I think they have thin thermal ones, too.
