But first, I wanted to talk about the Deco shirred skirt as many JCAs reported that it's very short. It is indeed a miniskirt, but I was more worried about the weight of it for cold winter days and nights and I wanted to check if it looked as good with black opaque stockings.
The fit is the same of the Shirred wool skirt, which is also very short. The description on the website says that the fabric is a blend of silk and wool; however it feels more like silk than wool at the touch (it is lightweight), but the good news is that it is fully lined.
Here is my usual size, a 0, without stockings:

And this is with the stockings (yes, I was that organized: I took a pair of tights with me):

In case you're wondering what's the tee-shirt that I'm wearing with the skirt, it's a new one with a small sequined rose (it also came in a dark slate). It is very sheer and not worth it the $45 (if I'm not wrong) price IMO. It looked like a bad knockoff of a Jcrew "rose" tee or an outlet tee:

I also tried a size 2 in the skirt, to compare the lengths. On me, the 2 sits much lower on the hips, but it still looks nice:

The tee is the new flower tee that made a brief appearance on the website last week (I'm not sure what happened with this tee, did I dream it or it sold out already?) It retails for $36.50 and it also comes in pewter. Here is a S (the XS was very fitted, I would size up in this one):

And here is the skirt without tights:

I think that the skirt would have worked in either size for me but I prefer the 0 because the 2 had more of a A-line shape that I don't like that much. The SAs also advised to go with the 0. However the 0 felt much more like a mini, while the 2 felt more like a regular above-the-knee skirt and if you live in a very conservative environment and you plan to wear this to go to Church for example, I would size up.
The 0 is on hold for me at the store but I wanted to listen to your comments before buying it.
Is this on your wishlist? Do you prefer the short version or the longer version on me?
I prefer the shorter version on you... it's darling with the tights!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the shorter version as well. I quite like it, but I also have the black wool shirred skirt so I won't be buying this one.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great on you, love it with the T's.
Looking forward to your sweater post. Have you seen the Collection handknit cardigan (heather gray with leather buttons) in store?
I'm not over the moon on this skirt even though I like how it's shown on the model in the catalog. I think the print would be so much better in a pencil skirt, maybe the cardi is better too. It reminds me of the balustrade but messier or the abstract rose skirt but less refined in pattern. Does it pass your Kate Hudson test? : ) Just my 2cents!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the longer version, for myself, but for you the shorter version looks cuter. I think you should def. get this skirt, though. You have styled it super cute, and it looks chic both with and without the tights! I saw that flower tee, too (the white one) and didn't think it was worth the money! I bought the vneck "crystal necklace tee" though, and I LOVE it......this is a wonderful post, and i look forward to your upcoming post on the sweaters/cardigans!
ReplyDeleteThe skirt looks great on you! I actually don't mind either size!!
ReplyDeleteI purchased this skirt too! I ended up sizing up~ it just *felt* better and it added a bit more length. The skirt hits me just above the knees too! :)
Thanks for sharing!! I look forward *seeing* more! :-P
I love the skirt on you and think you should go with the 0 since I believe you don't have to dress too conservatively and it fits nicer. You can definitely pull off the mini with your petite frame, tights or bare legs, both look good. I purchased this but sized up for length as I'm fairly tall (5'9") but have great legs and like a shorter skirt now and again, just not for work.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your sweater post. :)
i like the shorter skirt better too.
ReplyDeleteyou have such a great figure, so why not go with the shorter one?
do you have the style number for the second rose tee you wore?(the one you sized up in?)
did you try the tissue ruffle tee that is a new arrival?is it TTS?
thanks for your reviews, cant wait for more!
Thank you for the comments ladies!
ReplyDeleteStylestance, that's good because I'm going to wear it mostly with tights ;-).
DaniBP, thank you (I have the shirred wool in black too. What can I say, I love the style).
Yes, I saw the Collection handknit cardigan in store but didn't try it on. It looked like a sweater coat, it's very heavy and I think I would "disappear" in it.
jcbellemarie, technically the Kate Hudson rule doesn't apply to this (but totally applies to the beaded front-ribbon top). I think that it looks messier in the catalog/website than it is in real life because of the styling, there is too much going on, starting with the pointelle tights. I would keep it simple with a black or white top and black tights. I have tried the cardigan but it's champagne (not ivory white likethe skirt) and the pattern is overwhelming on a cardi IMO (pics in the next post).
mrs.anketell, thank you! I liked the crystal necklace tee too but I think I'm a little bit teed-out lol. I purchased the beaded medallion on sale though, that was a good deal and I love it.
MMM, thank you! More to come soon!
ShuLvr, thank you for sharing!
ina, I'm sorry I don't have the style number because I didn't purchase the tee but I can look it up for you when I go back to pick up the skirt. It doesn't show in the pic but the sequins and part of the flowers are green (there are not many).
ReplyDeleteIf you mean the Tissue ribbed ruffle henley, no I didn't try it on, sorry!
The shorter length gets my vote. Show off those beautiful legs while you can!! I love the print too. Also, thanks so much for the help dressing my "babies".
ReplyDeleteI really like the shorter skirt on you, and not loving the tees at all. I am also looking forward to your sweater post.
ReplyDeleteThe 4 is better. The 6 looks too full. Love it with or without the tights!
ReplyDeleteEma:
ReplyDeleteI'm like you. I like the print but the fabric makes it impractical for me in the Northeast. Silk/wool is a bit of a strange combination, no?
Definitely go with the shorter skirt - looks great on you - the larger size doesn't have the same impact -- btw- I find your blog extremely helpful. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe skirt looks gorgeous on you. Go with the smaller size.
ReplyDeletego with the smaller size! I just bought this in a size 4. Looking forward to wearing it with tights and black booties!
ReplyDeleteI agree with others:
ReplyDeletegreat legs + lifestyle= sz 0
looks darling on you!
Ladies, thank you for stopping by and for the precious advice. I went with the 0. I LOVE it.
ReplyDeletemay I ask how tall you are? I usually wear a 0 in J.Crew as well, and I am eyeing this skirt! I am 5'6, so I am a little worries about the length.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
Chanel Fashionista, I'm 5'2", I would go with a size 2 because it's not huge and definitively longer.
ReplyDeleteSo impressed that you remembered tights. I'm usually good about wearing clothes that work for matchup with separates, but I'm never that prepared.
ReplyDeleteI tried on this skirt and just loved it. Not sure that I need it at FP, but would definitely jump at a sale or % off. I also tried the wool shirred skirt - but that one looked shorter on me than this one - maybe it's the difference in fabric.
Anyway, I am no help at all because I thought both skirts looked great. I am wanting it to wear with black tights and a black turtleneck.
Hi Ema -
ReplyDeleteI am also interested in the style number of the new flower tee - with the black roses - that you tried on (the one Ina asked about). Can you please let me know when you have a moment?
Thanks so much!
