So last Friday my husband told me that he needed a new merino sweater "like the black one that I have" (Jcrew) and asked me to buy him one. Is it only my husband who always realizes that he needs new clothes only when sales are ended or when his size is gone, gone, gone (he is an average size so the first to sell-out)? I mean, he knows that I go to Jcrew once a week and he has heard before that there are crazy sales at this time of the year, couldn't he ask me before?
Anyway not that I was going to refuse to make another trip to my favorite store, so on Saturday I went to Jcrew again. I didn't find the sweater for him, but I tried on two new tees that had just hit the selling floor. These are officially the first "new" tees of the year, as I had already seen before the other ones that they had.
The first one was a little bit deja crew, but beautifully made:

It also came in pewter with charcoal flowers and black chiffon. I took a pic of the tag but once again my camera didn't focus and I can't read the price or the style number (but I think that the price was $45).
The second one is a in-store only version of the Textured jersey splatter tee:

This one was VERY fitted and a little bit uncomfortable to wear because the flower is "painted" so the fabric is a little bit stiff there.
I couldn't help taking a pic of the window with my "favorite" Jenna's style resolution for 2010:

It looks like Jenna is very serious about her resolution of wearing shorts in the cold (or even the snow) but the effect was kind of hilarious given the arctic temperatures outside.
By the way, the sweater in the window is the yellow merino sweatshirt that I bought on Thusrsday, I think that it's going to be a big seller. Once home I couldn't wait to try it on with some summer clothes as I plan to take it with me on vacation in two weeks.
First with my white linen shorts (without tights!):

With white cocktail capris:

In the store it was styled over a popover, so I tried it over my chambray contrast-stitch shirt from last summer:

And here is with my scout chinos:

By the way, I have these in two sizes (a 0 and a 00) and I can't decide which ones to keep. The 00 is a little bit tight in the hips (see pic above) but I like the leg and the cropped lenght, the 0 is more comfortable (read: slouchy) but a little too loose in the calf. Anyone who has these and can teel me if they stretch out a little bit with wear?
Have a nice week!
I love deja-crew! what a great expression! Those are nice tees though. In my experience J.Crew chino always stretches out a bit.
ReplyDeleteI like the sweatshirt, but do not like the tees. I agree JC chino always stretches out after a few wearings.
ReplyDeleteDid you happen to see the Skimmer pant?
Fun sweatshirt/sweater..saw it at my store in light grey, charcoal grey and this yellow. Great color for the trip:)
ReplyDeleteDo not care for those tees..too "kids art project" for almost $50. I am so over J Crew (and honestly, that is good for me.)
Ema: You are my girl, and here is why...I was on the fence on whether I wanted to keep the sequined yellow version of the splattered floral painted tee because those sequins are sewed on but not well enough for my liking. Then I opened up your post, saw the beautiful neon pink version that has NO sequins, and realized that was the tee I would have wanted! I was heading to J. Crew to do returns anyhow, so I just brought the other version of this tee with me and exchanged it for the one you are wearing (the second tee you showcase). I even saved money, because this version is less expensive. SO THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteI am still going to review the other one, as I was able to try it on and get some photos, but I think I knew right away the sequined version wasn't for me.
I just adore you in the yellow merino sweatshirt. So very pretty!
The tees are nice, though not for me.
ReplyDeleteWhat I DO want is that yellow merino sweatshirt! It's just so pretty! I'll be looking for it in Palm Beach this Saturday *squeals* ;)
I am not sure I like the tees. The color of them seems very bright-highlighter pink! Also, the abstract flowers are getting old for me. I feel like J. Crew has done this floral print half-a-dozen times on their tees. Maybe they are prettier in IRL.
ReplyDeleteI do love the sweatshirt! Looks like it is a nice weight. I also like that it doesn't look too sloppy.
Thanks for the reviews!
I saw these tees this past weekend, and was not very impressed. The second one, maybe, but i am not feeling the hot pink coloring!
ReplyDeleteMay I use your pic of the the sweet papaya tee (1st photo) in a polyvore set? I'm new to this and don't know the correct etiquette...
ReplyDeleteBTW you look great in the yellow sweatshirt!
LOVE the yellow merino sweatershirt! It's such a lovely color on you!
ReplyDeleteI visited THREE different B&M's this weekend but none of them had these new tees! :( I am a j.crew tee-aholic so I must *see* them! =P The SA's told me that the new arrivals wouldn't hit the sale floor until the 25th! I wonder if I will have to wait that long to see the tees here!?! :-/
Thanks for sharing! :)
Jemma Ruby, deja-crew is one of Gigi's J-crew "neologisms". Thanks for the advice on the chinos.
ReplyDeletecasual-crew, yes I saw them. Actually I took a pair in the fitting room with me but couldn't push myself to try them on (I had tights + socks + jeans + boots). The only thing that I can say is that I thought that they had a satin-y finish (like the cafe capri) but the fabric is more like a soft twill.
sweetsy, yes I can understand about the tees ...
dinagideaon, thank you, happy that I could help you somehow...
DaniBP, I think you'll have fun in PB...
Emily, I'm not sure either for the same reason. The first one was very pretty in the other color (pewter) but how many pewter tees a girl can have?
mrs.anketell, I wouldn't buy any of these but I liked the first one more than the second one.
Jennifer, sure go ahead, but please crop my head and legs (not that anyone is going to recognize my legs in the jeans but)!
MMM, that's weird, I would think that your store should get them before the 25th...
