I try to stay away from Lohemann's because there are too many temptations there but because the Jcrew swimsuits really don't fit me well and I like to buy a new one each year, and in my opinion Lohemann's is THE place to go because they have the greatest deals on otherwise much more expensive beachwear brands, I decided to go.
I found what I was looking for (post coming soon) but I also found something else that I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR but I just couldn't leave there.
It's a jacket from Marc by Marc Jabobs made in a sweatshirt fabric and lined with sherpa (I know that this description sounds weird but you will understand when you see the pics). I couldn't resist the colors and the beautiful buttons:

This is the sherpa lining (only the body is lined, not the sleeves):

It wasn't on sale but at $79.99 it was decently priced (as everything at Lohemann's) for a Marc Jabobs piece.
I should be happy because it is a great find and I really like it. However I feel a little bit of a buyer's regret because:
1) It was an impulsive purchase and I don't need it (hey, I was looking for beachwear)
2) It is a size S and I think the fit would have been better in a XS (it is a little bit boxy when fully buttoned, like here):

3) It looks like the buttons come off very easily (in fact the last one came off when I was trying it in the fitting room) and I'm not good at sewing!
4) I have other jackets that I still have to wear
5) I don't have any budget left for spring clothes (unless I return something)
But on the other side:
1) I think that the colors are stunning. It's a jacket that doesn't go unnoticed.
2) It fits very well in my lifestyle (because of the fabric it's very comfortable and I can wear it to the playground, take up my daughter without fearing for it etc.) which means lots of potential wear
3) The fact that it's sherpa-lined it's a plus for me because it means that I will be able to wear it without a coat in early spring when the air is still frisky (and anyway when it gets warmer I don't like to wear jackets)
4) Did I mention that I like the colors?
What do you think? Should I keep it? Is it worth it? Please share!
My thoughts: it's a cute jacket in an attention-grabbing color. I like the buttons and the sherpa lining. But I agree about the boxy fit. For me, personally, I think you could find something more special that you'd really love for that same price.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be worth the money if the buttons weren't coming off. Do you know someone who can fix it for you? If so, I might keep it because you like it, and it looks nice and warm. But you need buttons and for $79 the buttons should not be coming off.
ReplyDeleteI am obviously an enabler because I think you should keep it. That being said, I have noticed a lot of quality issues with Marc Jacobs' clothing. I used to buy quite a lot of it before, but now am sort of disgusted after a bad customer service experience at their store. Plus, the clothes I have from this brand tend to fall apart pretty fast.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, $80 isn't the end of the world and if you'll use it, it should be fine. Go to a tailor, I promise they won't charge more than a few dollars to sew on a button in NYC.
Side note, they're having the Barney's warehouse sale soon!! I don't think I will go because I am trying not to spend too much money, but it's such a temptation!! Are you going to J Crew's sample sale next week?
I have only one Marc by Marc Jacobs piece but I ordered it from Net a Porter on sale...so it came directly from them and was in perfect shape.
ReplyDeleteI do really like this piece, and think the sherpa is kind of like a cool hidden secret. I say keep it and get it repaired (buttons). I like the color on you!
You have such a cute figure that I think you could find something more flattering-it does appear a bit boxy. BUT, if it were smaller, I'd say KEEP IT! I love the color, buttons and sherpa lining!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It seems special and unique to me.
ReplyDeletei like it there is a similar yellow one right now with aqua trim at forever 21...part of their new resort collection
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm new but have been reading for a while and feel compelled to write! I agree that it's a practical jacket however the sleeves bother me. I know they are meant to be bracelet but they just look too short to me. I would take it back. You have a cute figure that gets lost in it.
ReplyDeleteTracey,
ReplyDeleteI agree, the sleeves bother me too but for a different reason. I just don't think they are flattering on you--I would return it for the price. If you got it for say $30-40 I'd say keep it but for $80 and in need of button repair. Return.
Did you find a swimsuit? I hope so:)
I think that it doesn't flatter your cute figure and it should go back. Go buy something fabulous for your vacation! If your plan is to wear this to the playground, then it is not worth it, especially since it has quality issues.
ReplyDeleteEma, I love the color of the jacket but to be honest don't like the color of the buttons. If I were you, I would keep the jacket and just change the buttons. I think round shaped golden buttons would make this jacket stand out even more!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is a boxy fit. Besides, you can always wear something thicker underneath.
Definitely keep the jacket!
Another delurker here, I like the jacket but I think it is too big on you. The fit just doesn't seem to work. I say take it back.
ReplyDeleteYou have more cons than pros listed. It is cute on you, but you would look cute in a brown paper bag! :) You seem in doubt and that is a great reason to take it back. You will find something else that you love and do not even need to think twice about!
ReplyDeleteI would return it if the buttons are coming off. It is a cute color, but it does look a bit big. Could you return it for a smaller size?
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very cute jacket - but I like Kristin's point about how you have more cons than pros listed - that's very telling. The question I would ask is how much are you really going to wear it? It really is perfect for your lifestyle - but are you going to pause before putting on because you want something more figure flattering or because one of the buttons came off and you haven't gotten it re-attached? Or...do you think you are going to find yourself grabbing it constantly and just pairing with a trim tee & pants for daily life. It's a really tough call because the colors are so fab - they really make the jacket - but they shouldn't be the whole reason you keep it.
ReplyDeleteand sorry...I know I've been so delinquent...trying to catch up here!!
Thank you for weighing in ladies!
ReplyDeleteI have decided to take it back. The buttons coming off don't bother me as much as the fit (I can sew a button if I really want). I tried it again yesterday and I didn't like how it looked fit-wise and if I don't like the fit I won't wear it that much.
Thanks again!
Dominique, I'm tempted to go at the sample sale (only for the shoes) tomorrow, but I don't want to overspend and besides I have better to do this week. I will decide at the last minute I guess.
ReplyDeleteTracey, yes I found a fab swimsuit, post coming sson.
Heidi, don't worry, but it's good to hear from you every once in a while (just to let me know that you are still "there")
