Crazy for Cashmere

During the last year I have developed a weakness for JCrew cashmere and each time that a cashmere sweater goes on sale and the price drops below $100 (my personal threshold) I can't resist and I jump on it. I know that Jcrew cashmere is often criticized and I don't want to lunch myself in a pro-JCrew-cashmere harangue here but in my opinion their colors and styles can't be beat and if one is willing to wait, even their prices.

This summer I have been eyeing the Cashmere zip pocket cardigan. I immediately fell in love with this sweater when I saw it in store, especially in the now sold-out blush stone color. As I said before I never pay full price for cashmere but because my birthday is coming up soon and there is nothing else around that I wanted more than this sweater I was ready to make an exception and make it my birthday present to myself, sale price or not.

When two colors (the lavender and sepia) went on sale last week and I saw that the blush stone was sold-out both online and at the Collection store, I emailed my PS and asked her if she had one in my size to put on hold for me.
This sweater was still full price in store in all the colors but because this particular color was sold-out online she gave me the online sale price (even if I am not sure if it ever went on sale before selling out on the website).

I think it's one of the chicest sweaters EVER. I love the gold zippers on the pockets and placket and even if it's 100 degrees outside I can't wait to wear it (it's a substantial 12-gauge knit and I would be sweating in it even in the evening). At least I got to wear it this morning for the blog and I took my pearls out for the occasion:

My long-time followers will remember that in the fall a SA at the Rockefeller Center store had (very proudly) told me that Tory Burch had visited the store the day before and that she had bought "lots of cashmere". Well, I can totally see Tory Burch buying (and wearing) this cardigan.

In case you want to take advantage of the current 30% off promo and order one of the two colors that are currently on sale on the website, the fit is TTS to small. If you plan on wearing it with something more than a cami or a tank underneath I would size up. Although, the deep V-neck and the three quarter sleeves make it a summer sweater and I don't know if this style can really be worn when it gets cold.
Now, if only the lagoon green and the black could go on sale, I would definitively buy another one.

Do you own this cardigan? How do you wear it? Would you consider it for the current price?

  1. I never noticed this cardi before, but I love it! It is very chic. It looks like it has a great fit.
The color is amazing, you'll be happy to have it in the fall.
I just placed an order from the sale, but all husband-stuff, if you can believe it, with the exception of a belt for me (the braided fabric one, I "need" it for one of my Brora linen dresses)
I have lots of JC cashmere, and I love it too. My 15yo daughter has been slowly stealing my collection of sweaters, she loves it too!

  2. I love that cardigan!! Especially in the blush stone color, if they had that color available, i would get it. Not sure if the Sepia color would work for me----what would you wear it with?? I am wondering about the jcrew Tasca "zip" cardigan, have you checked that one out yet?? It looks chic with the zippers on the pockets, and I usually prefer a longer cardigan, but like i said, this cashmere cardigan is beautiful in the color you got:)

  4. Oh, I'm definitely with you in the J.Crew cashmere obsession. Fine, sometimes it does pill, but honestly, so do my other brands. The colors, oh the pretty colors. They're just so much prettier and richer than others out there. $100 is my threshold as well and cheaper is just gravy. Love, love, love the blush color and the sweater you're wearing. If I would have seen it in blush on sale, I would have snapped it up too! I went a little nuts with the cashmere in the recent sales, but now I'm stocked up. I'm always hot, so I love the lighter cashmere for all winter long. Heaven.

  5. Love the color on you and I must say seeing it IRL it looks better than the stock photo.

I've also started a little collection of JC cashmere only during sale price. The feather weights seem to have the most piling issue but I just love the colors and the styles.

  6. I love the sweater, I tried it on in pale grey in the store when it first came out. I think it looks really sophisticated and almost jacket-like with the zippered pockets. Got to get it on sale now...

  7. DaniBP, yes it has a great fit (very fitted). The color reminds me of the dusty blossom cashmeres from the fall that I have missed out on (you have something in this color if I am not wrong). I that that that's why I HAD to have it this time!

mrs.anketell, actually I also bought the sepia but ended up returning it. It's a beautiful color for fall (with cords for example) but I am not sure that this cardigan is made for the cold weather, so I returned it.
I am intrigued as well by the tasca cardigan but I haven't seen it IRL, so I cannot comment on that one.

ina, the blossom looks more lilac on the website than the blush stone (which is really a nude) but maybe is more pinkish IRL. I will keep an eye open and report back if I see the long merino cardigan in blossom in store.
The cobblestone bracelet is very nice in my opinion if you haven't anything similar. The sandy brown is very pretty (more than the black IMO).

shopwithme, happy that we share the same obsession and that we agree that the colors of JCrew cashmere are worth some pilling.

jcrewphd, I agree that the featherweight cashmere pills more than the 12-gauge. In fact the only cashmere sweater that I have and has pilled badly is the featherweight short-sleeved one. The other ones that I have pill very little.

Sue(reBloomer), hope that you get it on sale. I love the grey too but I have too many grey sweaters.

  8. ina, I saw the long merino cardigan in the blossom color yesterday and it is definitively a pale lavender like last year amethyst, not a blush. HTH!
