More Navy in My Closet (and the end of my Tory Burch shoes saga)

I don't have enough time to write the post on my husband's 40 party today, so I have finished up a post that I had started before leaving for LA.

The week before my trip to LA I received a flyer from my favorite high-end shoe store in the city (that happens to be just around the block) that advertized a private sale starting on May 25th. I have to say that every year I wait for this sale because I typically allow myself one pair of designer shoes a season and they carry all my favorite brands (Miu Miu, Prada, Zanotti, YSL and ... Tory Burch), so this is a much-awaited sale for me. On top of being the first to know about the sale, the flyer entitled to an additional 10% off for 3 days only, so I knew that I would be there first thing in the morning.

If you remember my posts here and here and here, I was torn between the Tory Burch Kitty and Sally open-toe styles and when I finally got the Kitties in the tan color during the Saks F&F event, I realized that what I really needed was a pair of navy shoes. I have a lot of navy in my closet as it's one of my favorite colours (if not my favorite) but I have always been struggling to find a pair of non-driving mocs navy shoes. When I saw that the Tory Burch open-toe Sallies came in a beautiful navy I knew that they were meant to be mine.
It happens that this "high-end" store is one of the few stores that carry the Sallies in navy and luckily for me they were part of the private sale, so I ended up getting them with 40% off, which for Tory Burch classic styles is a very good deal.

Can I say that I love them? The navy (called classic navy) isn't a very dark shade of navy and I think that it's very summery (it is exactly the color of the navy in the checkered shirt):

Even if they have a wedge, they are very comfortable and I can see myself wearing them in my everyday life. With the checkered dress for exemple (to spice it up a little bit):

My navy Mica mini from last year was eagerly awaiting for this pair of shoes to be worn (I love this skirt but I didn't have any shoes to wear it with, besides flats):

While I was taking the last pic I thought that I could really use a navy cami or top. I had been eyeing the Adriana tank in classic navy for a while but didn't want to spend much on it and I finally took the plunge during the last promo. I ordered two sizes, one regular and one petite, because other bloggers reported that the fit was slightly big, especially at the mid-section, and when something is offered in petites it usually means that it runs pretty huge.

The tops arrived today. To be honest with you if it weren't for the tag I wouldn't have been able to tell which one was the 0 and which the 2P (I sized one up as I do for pants because it was the first time that I ordered a top in petite). After many try-ons I have decided to keep the 0 regular because it is a little bit more fitted around the underarms and slightly longer, which gives it a leaner look. Those who tried this top were generally disappointed that the ruffles were different than pictured on the website, but because I knew it already I wasn't particularly disappointed. Actually I like that they lay flatter than in the website pic because I plan to wear it under an open cardigan, like the metallic beach one:

Here is alone:

What I DON't like in this top is the zide zipper that makes it impossible to tuck it in, as you can see:

But I LOVE this shade of navy, that matches perfectly my new shoes:

For $32 I am certainly going to keep it. Have you tried it? Are you tempted by it?

Have a nice weekend!

  1. The cami is really cute on you, I know what you mean about the regular sized tops sometimes looking better (leaner) than the petite versions. But what is really calling my name is the beach cardigan...I'm realizing that I really do have to have it. Now.

  3. I love the TB shoes, they're adorable! And I agree, it is so difficult to find cute navy shoes.

I was lured into the Tory Burch love when you posted about the Kitties a while back, and I bought them in black with the free shipping code.. proud to say I ordered a pair of the black Revas with the silver logo today to wear to work! So, thank you for the introduction, Ema!

I've been eyeing the Adriana cami for ages.. love the hot pink color, but nervous about the fit. Perhaps I'll try it out now that there's no more final sale.

  6. I love the navy color on you. I have this tank in cobblestone and I wasn't sure it was a keeper until I tried it on under a cardigan and then I loved it. I have the 4P as I am 5'6" but short waisted.

  7. You know I've never really worn navy before but I am so loving it on you, I think it might be new colour for me.

I'm still walking about the house daydreaming of that LA pad you rented!

  8. Sue, I just noticed the other day the (new?) section "Back by popular demand" on the website where you can find the metallic beach cardigan, among other items that were waitlisted or sold-out. It's going to beb a staple of my summer!

mrs. anketell, thank you. The Natalia bi-color flats in the midnight color are beautiful IMO (even if sold-out in almost all the sizes).

Lauren, I actually like the black Kitties more than the nude ones, I should have ordered those instead. Maybe on super-sale ... Anyway, I am happy that I have introduced you to Tory Burch shoes, I think that her classic styles are a must in every woman's closet!

Dani, I felt so bad reading your post about the tulle tank, I hope that I am not enabling you to buy something that will disappoint you.

A Bigger Closet, thank you! Said by a stilish lady like youself it's a great compliment.

Daisy, yes, I think that this tank looks great under a cardigan. Maybe I will order the Parisian pink too.

Tabitha, you have never worn navy???? Must try. This one in particular is not very dark so I think that is a shade that could work even with your coloring.
BTW, I have left a comment for you in my previous post.

  9. Don't worry, Ema, the tulle tank was not so special on my frame but it went back in a giant box of returns so it wasn't even a hassle. Up here in Canada I just have to deal with PTTO (Paying To Try On, a term invented by GetFresh)
I have returned about 80% of my orders in the last few months: I think I am having a cranky phase! ;)
