I keep seeing the JCrew Cafe capri in houndstooth wool in the street and magazines, last in date in the October issue of Vogue, where Michelle Williams is channelling Marylin Monroe in this head-to-toe JCrew outfit:
The pants are almost sold-out on the website and I. Do. Not. Need. Another. Pair. Of. Pants anyway but I do have a pair of plaid pants (because that's plaid, or prince of wales, not houndstooth, right?) that I haven't worn in ages and all of a sudden I was inspired to take them out of my closet and try them with a few things. They are Paul and Joe (I remember paying a small fortune almost a decade ago), made in a wonderful wool (unlined but not itchy at all) and they aren't cropped. They wouldn't look good with a caramel colored sweater like the one worn by Michelle but I have seen the houndstooth capris styled with the cashmere cable in bright dahlia in the stores and my pants are even a better pairing because bright dahlia is a color that is already in the plaid.
So this is my version (the cardigan is, in fact a JCrew cashmere in bright dahlia from two seasons ago):
They look great with a simple white shirt (this is a Gap, from the current collection) for a crisp, classic style:
I also tried them with the fisherman sweater, but this is too classic for me:
Do you own the cafe capri in houndstooth wool? Do you have another pair of plaid pants that you are going to wear this fall?

Those are very nice plaid pants from the back of your closet!
ReplyDeleteI do like them with the fisherman sweater too.
The picture of Michelle Williams is terrific. That's definitely going to see some JCrew!
I like the plaid pants, but not at full price. Doesn't look like they will make it to sale either.
ReplyDeleteI really like your rendition, especially with the white shirt.
This is exactly why I have trouble following the 'if you haven't worn it in a year throw it out' rule. Every so often something from the back of the closet is just the thing!
ReplyDeleteoh boy, that is one amazing image! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI think the mix with the bright dahlia sweater is a great compromise with the cute pants you already own!
I think I have a pair of J Crew houndstooth trousers from several years ago that look just like this year's version. I'll fish it out of storage and see if it still fits (don't think so! it was either a size 0 or a size 2, pre vanity sizing!). I love that bright dahlia cardi.
ReplyDeleteThose are great pants! They look fantastic paired with the bright dahlia cashmere cardigan!
