OOTD: Leopard And Gold (And A Joe Fresh Sale)

Happy MLK Day! I have been busier than usual last week and my daughter started the MLK weekend a day earlier (she was home from school this past Friday), thus my lack of posts. I still have a few issues with the camera and uploading the images on my new computer so I am going to post a OOTD that I wore pre-holidays, just to get back into the swing of blogging.

I bought this leopard-print shirt (whose real name I cannot remember) as soon as it hit the sale section. I love the colors in this print so much better than all the previous iterations of the leopard blouse (I didn't have any before this one). I don't know what it is, probably the fact that there is olive more than camel/beige in the print and the fact that the background is ivory. In any case I also have the scarf in the same print, as some of you will probably remember. I am also a fan of the silk-cotton blend but that makes the shirt thin and more weather-appropriate for spring (or very early Fall) than winter.

In any case that day in December it was exceptionally warm so I broke it out with the Loft super-skinny cords and my zipper pocket cashmere sweater in olive. I am wearing my usual perfect-shirt size, a 0:

If you have or plan to buy this shirt and you need a belt, I also recommend the square-buckle patent belt in warm ivory. I am wearing a S but this belt is very long and I could have gone with the XS (I am rarely a XS in belts):

That day I happened to step into Joe Fresh after spying in the window a golden foil print sweater that reminded me of this Michael Kors one that I had tried on (in the gold colorway) but was too dark for my taste (I was hunting for such a sweater to pair with a couple of dresses and skirts during the holidays). I loved the sweater and the outfit so much that I decided to ditch the cashmere cardigan and I wore it for the rest of the day:

This sweater should still be in stores if you are interested (it was originally $59, not sure if it went on sale recently but it wasn't a week ago). BTW, if you are in NYC or have a Joe Fresh store nearby I highly recommend to go, they are having a clearance sale with cashmere sweaters for $29 less 25% off (down from $89). I bought two cardigans in basic colors (before the 25% off) and I love them. This is the grey (I didn't have a basic grey cardigan), in a XS:

That's it for now. My husband is travelling this week, which means that I have more time to blog. I have a few things to share, stay tuned!

  1. Love the joe fresh cardigan, wish we had the store here too.
Ema,what size do you wear in the cotton cafe capris that come out in the spring and in the toothpick jean in garment dyed twill? I am thinking about those two for my next rollout order.
    TIA

    1. ina, I am a 0 in the printed cafe capri but I don't have the solid ones (people say they are baggy in the legs). I am a 26 in the garment dyed toothpick but I only have the festival green ones and not the ones from the summer (with zippers).

  2. Your Joe Fresh finds are fabulous! I wonder if they would do a charge send? Love your leopard outfit. Actually just purchased the shirt last week and I have that very same cardigan, so thank you so much for the outfit idea. Perfect!

  4. I love that leopard top on you!

This is a random question - I was wondering, how do you feel like your style has changed as you have lived in different cities? What would you characterize as typical Milano style? Just curious :) I used to live in NYC and now live pretty close to Milano, and I can see both in you!

    1. Abby, that is too funny. Where do you live now exactly?
It's a tough question because I lived in Paris for ten years before moving to NYC. I think in Italy there is (or there was) much less "street fashion" than in NY, fashion is much more related to identifiable brands, even now. The style in Milan is very sleek-minimalist IMO, which is VERY different from the Parisian style, which is more bohemian.
I don't know if you agree or this answers your question, it could take an entire book to answer!

    2. I live in Switzerland. Italy is about 3h away, and Paris is pretty close by TGV but more expensive, so if we're craving a big city where we can at least sort of understand what people are saying, we go to Milan. Not that often, but more often than anywhere else!

I totally agree about NYC being quite a mish mash and very individualistic (though there are a lot of pockets of same-ness).

I think Milan is pretty minimal and understated, I definitely agree with that. People there always look polished, I think. Not necessarily the expensive-looking polish, but as if they have taken care. Lots of high heels, too, I'm always struck by that. I really love that Italian minimalist yet dressed up look. I am half Italian and I notice that the outfits that feel the most "right" on me are somewhat Italian-feeling.

Paris, I definitely agree that it's more bohemian. And I find it more influenced by that NYC hipster vibe than anything I've seen in Italy. Of course, there is that whole "French woman" thing, which has way more to do with posture and whatever other mysterious element than it has to do with clothes.

I agree, it would take a book! It's also a bit of "I know it when I see it." Same with Spanish woman, I can spot them instantly here, it's always amazing to me.

Is your name "Em-ma" or "É-ma"?

    3. It's Ema, nickname of Emanuela. Actually the real nickname is "Manu" (my dad calls me Manu, not Ema) I don't know how my friends ended up calling me Ema!

I can recognize an Italian or French from a mile, too!
