My top of the top, in any category is (TADADA): the Linen Monterey skirt

Boy, I love this skirt, I just bought my third one (in white, I have already the khaki, pictured above, and the striped one) on the JCA Weekly Exchange. I know that I will wear it again next summer. In fact I CAN'T WAIT to wear it again and thanks to an upcoming Caribbean vacation at the end of January it will happen sooner than it normally would be (I have already decided that I'll take the white one with me).
Runner-up in this category: the wool perfect pencil skirt. I haven't worn it a lot but it surely is one of the best skirts ever and I'm sure that I will wear it when I'm older (if I can still fit in).
My top in ... tops is: the Tuxedo-front cami.
Unfortunately I don't have a website pic of this one but you certainly remember it:

Runner-ups in this category: the (first and original) cascading-ruffle tank and the Olive flannel top (this one actually could be an ex-equo).
(By the way, remember these denim pants that I had a "Returnable item of the week" post on and had returned? I finally re-bought them on super-final sale at the end of the season for $19.99. So, I'm looking forward to wearing them next year.
My top in pants is: the Summerweight chino cocktail capri:

I love the fit of these. I have the charcoal and khaki and will be adding the white soon. I bought all off them in super-sale so they are even more worth it.
Runner-ups in this category: toothpick cords
My top in dresses is: the Pavillion Pique dress

I know it was controversial, but it worked well for me.
Runnerup: the wool Ravine dress.
And this will be my LAST PURCHASE of 2009:

The Bettina heels, bought this morning for $79.99 (after seeing them - and wanting to buy them - almost every day since they came out as they have been in the window of the Madison Collection store forever).
What's on your "Best of 2009" list?
To all of you my best wishes for 2010!
My heart just did a flip upon seeing the Bettina velvet heels. $79.99 for fabulous velvet and patent. I am very jealous!
ReplyDeleteI have bought the white capris twice and have sent them back twice. I keep forgetting why until I try them on again...they are sheer and you can see every seam and pocket lining that there is.
Hi Ema - This is a great question. Here are my top picks from 2009. I sure did buy a lot from JCrew this year. Have a very happy new year! Thanks for all your reviews during the year. I really use them before making purchases.
ReplyDelete***
Frances cami in dark slate -- I also have the Victoria and the Annalise, both of which I also like. But, the Frances wins hands down for overall wearability. The ruffles are not too high on the neck, nor do they stick out too far to be overpowering. I throw it on under a cardigan and feel instantly dressed up.
Stretch bootcut cords -- I love the soft feel of the corduroy. The waist doesn't fit me perfectly, but I like the quality of the fabric, the length and the colors enough that I'll take them to my tailor to nip in the waist. I have these in black and just ordered them in glazed pecan. Perfect length to wear with boots with a 2.5 inch chunky heel.
Perfect fit long sleeved tees -- I bought two of these (in grey and white) without much thought just to increase my total for free shipping this spring. Now I wonder what I did without them! They are my favorite shirts for the weekend and the first thing I reach for when I come home from work and need something to change into. Perfect for walking my dog and dressy enough to wear under a sweater coat with jeans and a long necklace.
Merino wool turtleneck in black -- The neck isn't too tight and it keep me warm in my freezing office. It's refined enough to look polished for work. I'm not a fan of JCrew's cashmere, but I think the merino is still high-quality.
Eden jacket -- I have this in black and Iris. I'm 5' 6" but short-waisted, so the petite version of this jacket fits me really well. I also order the blouses and tops in petite, if available.
Tuxedo-front cami -- I bought this on sale over the summer and love it. Again for work it's great paired with a simple cardigan or jacket.
Ribbon-front bow top in white -- While I wished I would have held out of the sequined version of this, I wore this shirt a lot over the summer. It looks great under a jacket or under a black, pink or mango cardigan. While at the park with my dog, I saw a woman wearing the navy version of this with jeans and thought it looked awesome. Funny how you see something in person and like it so much more than the catalog.
hi ema,have a happy 2010!
ReplyDeletehere are my picks:
i adore my wool-felted bistro mini and the mod corderoy mini.
i also love the bouquet tee and my duchess and symphony bracelet and libretto neclace.
Happy New Year, Ema!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Picks JC 2009:
1. Vintage Roadster Boots
2. Wool Perfect Pencil Skirt
3. Dusty Blossom: the Color (I have a cashmere sweater, a bracelet, and the Lady Day in this color.)
4. Wool Rosebud Pencil Skirt
5. Papillon Dress in black
Fun Post! Have a Super Day!
Very interested to see everyone's JC best buys for 2009, top post idea Ema. The things I wore most would include:
ReplyDelete1. FOOTWEAR Roadster boots: thanks ever so DaniBP for extolling these.
2. TOP Evening primrose cami 17240: really like the print and pleated layers, goes with greens, greys, purples etc.
3. LAYERING PIECES Olive stretch top: saw this when it first came on one of my rare chances to visit a B&M, stalked relentlessly on-line and got a amazin' Facebook era deal, works with blouses, jeans, skirts. **Also discovered CrewCuts boys' sweater vests as an under-jacket layer for me.**
4. SKIRT Current Bungalow wool skirt: Pockets (!) and great tailoring, did have tailor let down the generous hem for a bit more length. This won out over Bistro which was my 1st crush.
5. PANTS Boot cut/ toothpick cords and the much-posted-about Minnies: key part of non-suit winter "uniform."
6. ACCESSORY: Skinny studded belts: pennies per wear, over jackets, sweaters...
And my most-worn J CREW TEE surprises even me - the Textured Jersey Bouquet from early fall, 19940 I think. Not a big florals person, but have worn this over tons of JC blouses and under-layers from past seasons to add graphic pop under a jacket
Nice job scoring those chambray trouser jeans for 19.99! :)
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I bought this year was the ruffle trim 3/4 sleeve thin cardigan in light slate. I like it, although sometimes I think it is a little big on me. I did admire lots of things though. :)
nice post!
