But first, for those of you who have still months of cold weather ahead, they had a new very cozy cashmere sweater that I don't see online. It is very thick and it retails for $295. It wasn't very flattering but it was very good quality cashmere, so I thought I would share:

I tried a few summer dresses. First, the much talked about Shelby dress. This dress doesn't do anything for me and makes my mid-section appear wider. Plus it is sloppy in the chest area. I am trying my regular size (0):

The following is similar but much cuter IMO and also more expensive ($178). It is a black shift dress where the skirt portion is cotton and the top portion is a different material (that I forgot to look up but probably something like silk organza). Trying a 0 (fits perfectly):

Exposed zip in the back:

The Striped drawstring dress, which is a knit, was really unflattering on me (pardon my pants, I had tried it on another occasion and was too lazy to take boots and pants off. I have the Marin dress from lat year so I wasn't interested in purchasing this). This is a XS (fits TTS, no need to size down, IMO):

The next one was my favorite. Really a well-made dress and so comfortable to wear, but I will pass at $148. It is store-only for the time-being (style # is 33975 and the color is dark charcoal even if it looked more like a faded navy) and I am trying a 2 as the 0 was sold-out (I would need a 0, the 2 was definitively big everywhere):

The Lace Dobby skirt was a real surprise because I really, really liked it. I had read somewhere that the fit was the same than the wednesday skirt from last year, but it isn't because it is a A-line skirt (even if mini). I tried both the 0 and the 2 and I found the 2 to be more flattering without being too big:

Another skirt where I sized up is the following one. I thought that it was available online and I didn't take note of the style number (it retails for $88 or $98). Such a beautiful print, completely ruined by the bubble hem:

It was funny to see that the caprese tunic is back (for $49.50. I still see it pop back for 14.99). I tried it just to see if this time around it fits smaller. Well, no. This is a XS (but it now also comes in XXS):

I kind of liked the outfit though ;-). Third and last mini, this lace one that I also thought was online but can't find. I tried it because I liked how it was styled in the stores but I didn't like it on me, it flairs out in a bad way and I felt like a cupcake. Can't remember if I tried a 0 or a 2:

The shirt is the lovely Indian voile boy shirt. I ws interested in seeing the blue seashore color but the stores only had the strawberry and the indigo, that I'am trying here in my regular size 0 (fits TTS). It was very lightweight but not sheer:

This will probably be a sale purchase for me in the blue seashore color (the strawberry will be very nice too when the weather warms up).
A couple of days before I had tried, the Selvedge Eleanor Popover that had caught my eye since it came out. I liked the fit but not $98 liked it. It is a little bit plain but denim on denim is a difficult look to pull off and maybe I would have liked it more had I tried it with something with more contrast. This is the XS:

Next, I tried the chambray belmarin pant that is not online yet. It was TTS to a little bit small IMO. I find it to be just OK, nothing to talk home about:

That's about it for now. Any question let me know. Do you like anything here or in general from this rollout?
Thanks for the pics and reviews, Ema. I'm happy to see a substantial cashmere knit from J.Crew, though the color may wash me out. Do you remember the color code or could you tell me what color it is exactly?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of the Shelby, but saw the black dress in store and thought it was cute. I didn't think it warranted the exposed zipper though so it will probably be a pass for me unless deeply discounted.
I do hope we find the floral print of the bubble mini in other pieces. It's very pretty.
Overall, though, i'm not impressed with this rollout.

ReplyDeleteYep, definitely sweater weather here for another 2 months (at least)! Thanks for all the try-ons, makes me think I should take a warm weather vacation just so I can break out my spring wardrobe. Thankfully by the time I need spring clothes, most of these Jan/Feb items will be on sale. Eyeing the shirts, as usual. Call me obsessed.
ReplyDeleteIf I was in my 20's I'd fall for the grey shirt and frou frou skirt but the rest just looks so cheap, aside from the sweater.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that!
thanks for trying all the clothes.
ReplyDeletedid you see or try the canvas military skirt?
any comments on the fit?
TIA
Thanks for all the pictures! Wish they'd do some more substantial cashmere sweaters like that one. I think I might have been the one that mentioned the Wednesday skirt, but only that the waistband was similar. You're right that it's more a-line (and longer). I did like the lace dobby skirt more than I thought I would though, which was a surprise.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when I saw the picture of you w/your pants around your calves!
ReplyDeleteAll laughing aside, I have the voile button down in the prettier blue color. My son saw me and asked what I was wearing. I said a shirt. He said the color made me look like I was on vacation! It's a very pretty blue but such a plain, big fitting button-down! Well it is 'boyfriend' fit afterall. I'm hoping JC does more pretty blues in better styles for spring/summer.
Also, the eyelet skirt is cute on you. I tried it and don't think it's worth f/p, for me anyhow, and how much I would wear it. It's too short (and sizing up doesn't affect the lenght in size 4 and 6)and I think there will be more items like this available later. For a little more $ I could've had the safari dress from last spring but didn't keep it because of the length (or lack thereof) so pass on the skirt (at f/p).
Thanks for all the pic's and reviews!
Thanks for the reviews. I love your orange/coral ballet flats. Can you tell us more about them? Thx!
ReplyDeletehey ema!
ReplyDeletewanted to let you know i was just at the prince st. shop and the cute nameless dress (the grosgrain strapped, charcoal one) is on sale already! it was $89.99 plus an extra %40 off. for that price, i went for it--very cute come spring! they didn't have my usual size 2 but the 0 seemed to fit me perfectly, so took that. they still had a couple more zeros if you're interested!
hope you are well...and warm!
Ema, thanks for the reviews. I had already bought the retro shell in popcicle and am imagining the zillion tings I can wear it with. I really appreciate your IRL revies as I live in a state that doesn't have a J Crew (isn't that terrible?) and I order everything on line. I make many returns, I don't have a choice. With seeing you in the items it really helps me out before I order. So, thank you.
