As many of you I usually try to wear something cheerful on Valentine's Day, but yesterday we had a surprisingly warm day here in NYC with a spring-y feeling to it and I took advantage of the warmer temperatures to break out an item that I bought during the 40% off promo that I was just dying to wear. This mysterious item looks really good with greys, so no red or pink for me (plus I was somehow exempt from wearing little hearts and "xoxo" because the Valentine's Day party at my daughter's school was without grown-ups).
I would never have thought that the Honey tweed jacket would make it this far in the sale section but truth to be told, it is much more stunning IRL than on the website because of the golden threads that you can't see in the pics (the description says "luminous"). When you put it on on a sunny day like yesterday, it is almost like your body is shimmering and you are surrounded by a golden aura, a little bit like sun-kissed Edward in the cinematic version of the Twilight saga. Try it to believe it.
I really didn't want to pay more than what I paid for it because as you know I have a very casual lifestyle, but now I think that I would happily have paid full price for it. I bought it in a size 2. I had never tried it in store because my size sold out pretty quickly but I am happy that the 0 didn't pop back during the 40% off because given the choice I would probably have bought it instead of the 2, but it would have been too small in the chest area (I can zip the 2 up but it just fit when closed).
As I said it looks really good with greys and I had planned to wear it with the bistro mini, but as always happens I was late for school and had no time to scavange my messy stocking drawer for a pair of grey tights, so I wore it with my grey cashmere boatneck and my everyday jeans. I must say, I felt very good about myself in this outfit:

I am probably crazy but I also like it with the Sunnie pencil skirt, even if you would think that you can't wear plaid and houndstood together:

But I wouldn't dress it up more than this (it works with the Sunnie because it is pretty casual for a pencil skirt). It's a perfect little jacket to add some polish to a casual outfit and later in the season I plan on wearing it with chinos (these are the cocktail capris from 2 years ago):

This is how it looks with the zip up. At first I was a little bit bothered by the fact that the zippers on the pockets make the pockets stick out a little bit (hard to explain but as you can see in this pic the sides of the jacket don't go straight down where the pockets are sewn) but I am not going to wear it like this anyway and when left open it is not an issue anymore:

The zippers themself don't bother me at all. They are less prominent than I thought and I was quite oblivious of them while wearing the jacket (I thought initially that this jacket would look dated quite soon because of them but I was wrong).
Yesterday I was wearing grey flats but before pickup I went very quickly to my local Gap and look what I found for $7 (they look great with the jacket. They are half a size smaller than my usual size but for that price I think I can live with it as I haven't seen this color in a very long time and I was sad that I had missed on them):

BTW, the entire store was 40% off (sale and non sale) but I didn't have the time to try anything on (and to be honest nothing caught my eye).
Do you own this jacket? Would you consider it on sale?
Gorgeous jacket -- looks great on you. Really like it with the gray sweater. I saw it in person and thought it looked much better IRL too. Now I wish I had one. Maybe I'll find a popback. Thanks for posting the pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love this jackets too and have a few sets on Polyvore with it. I wore mine with black pants and also tried it on with the silk swathe dress (also black).
ReplyDeleteI almost almost bought this on pop-back this morning in my size - but I held out in fear that the jacket will be too cropped for me at 5' 9". It's funny you should review it today because I was scouring the web for reviews. It looks wonderful on you!!! oh how I wish it were just an inch of too longer for me :) great outfits - good find!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn't think anybody else would be crazy enough to wear this jacket with the Sunnie skirt !
ReplyDeleteThis jacket looks great with your hair and skin tone. I worried about being too cropped and close to my skin tone. Love the way you styled it.
