I'm sorry if I bother you again with the zebra tee, but these jeans are the perfect match for it: they are not black, not white, not dark charcoal but a very light gray perfect for spring. In fact now that I think about it, I've tried them for the first time the day that I bought the zebra, so I can now recreate the dressing room look. In fact, I wonder if my zebra tee wasn't a consolation prize for not being able to buy the jeans (at $135 they were efinitively too expensive. I never splurge on Jcrew jeans as I already splurge on premium brand jeans at least once a year).
So here they are with the zebra (and the matching wide patent belt that was also on sale):

Detail of the pockets and waistline:

I sized up in these. I normally wear a 26 but I bought a 27 because they are not stretch and I was afraid that they would be too tight in the tights and it's a color that doesn't forgive (you know the effect). That's why they are a little bit loose around the waist, but nothing serious.
You can roll them up and wear them barefeet to ...run the dog on the beach? Sorry, I've just watched Marley and Me:

And they look great with heels. Here are with the Cate slingbacks (that I also bought) one leg rolled up and one leg down for demonstration purposes. I apologize for the quality of the pic but the lighting in the fitting room was really bad:
I bet that they will go fast at this price. So if I have convinced you "hurry, they might not last long".
Just found your blog and love it. Read thru all your old posts and was wondering: what do you wear your charcoal bow tee shirt with? I have this tee in both colors (charcoal with ivory bow & natural with gray bow) and would love to know how you are wearing it. Also - how often do you clean out your closet / get rid of things? I love clothes as much as you seem to & always find it difficult to part with items - but there is the issue of space...or are you saving everything for your daughter?! (that's what I tell myself when I can't get rid of things!). THanks and looking forward to more posts.
ReplyDeleteHi Anon, I'm happy that you found my blog and enjoy reading it.
ReplyDeleteI wear the charcoal bow tee mostly with jeans (the skinny ones and now also the Gap that I was wearing with the zebra tee - they are exactly the same color) or my matchstick cords in sea salt (any other bottom that matches/recalls the color of the bow will do) and just a long cardigan over it (I have the Michelle in both the putty and dark charcoal). Pearls are nice if you want to dress it up a little bit but the reason why I love it is its understated elegance, so I can wear it to the playground but also to a party.
Re. closet cleaning I'm afraid I'm a keeper and when I decide to get rid of something, I usually regret it! I think that the only thing that is worth keeping for one's daughter is jewelry and accessories (I mean bags, foulards but non shoes) or LBDs. Everything else will look too dated when they are grown-up women (and my daughter is only 2!)
Please come back soon!
how do you both care for the bow tees? wash or dryclean? and if wash, do you put in dryer? thanks
ReplyDeleteI want these in white but the grey may win out after your review. Thanks. Did you size up so you can shrink to fit? I am concerned because I rarely buy pants in store. I need a long inseam but these look like they will be long enough.
ReplyDeleteAnon 1 - I handwash it, after reading on the JCA blog someone complaining that the bow had been destroyed by the washing machine (I don't know, maybe this person washed it in a "hot" cycle, but I prefer not to take the risk). A hassle, I know, but it is worth it!
ReplyDeleteAnon 2 - I sized up because they are pretty tight in the leg and I prefer them to be a little bit loose around the waist than too tight in the leg (I son't plan to shrink them to fit - I like them like the way they are).
You can order both sizes and see since the final sale is gone.
Just found you through comments on JCA. You are FANTASTIC! I plan to approach shopping in an entirely new way, starting today!
ReplyDeleteJust bought them yesterday in dark wash!
ReplyDeleteSide note, do you find that the Columbus Circle J Crew staff are a little rude? Yesterday I was helped by a really nice SA, but when they rang up my purchases (I also bought the Garden-lace shift dress in tea rose - adorable!), this really snotty SA made some nasty comments about how everything I bought was on sale and then made a remark because I gave her an expired coupon. Is this your experience too?
Hi. I just wanted to say that I just found your blog and I'm really enjoying reading your post. I have also just added myself to your list of loyal followers. Since I don't live anywhere near J Crew store, I'm particularly grateful for your weekly J Crew Trip updates. I'm LOVIN those!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute outfit! I love the zebra t with those jeans!
ReplyDeleteAnon, thank you, you made my day!
ReplyDeleteDominique, I agree with you. They haven't been rude with me but they are a certainly unprofessional. I had a bad experience in the fitting room during one of my recent visits: one SA offered to open a fitting room for me while I was still looking around and when I arrived I found my items on the table where they put the stuff that goes back on the racks and of course someone had picked up half of them. The least that they could do would have been being particularly attentive to me after that, but when I asked the SA to bring back the tee that I wanted to try she never showed up! Another time I returned 4 items (I mean that I gave back 4 items) and the SA at the register only returned 3 on my ticket! Luckily I was paying attention and I could show her that she had missed one. The only one that I find kind and useful is Russell.
Crew Girl in Canada, thank you for subscribing! I will try to keep up with the posts on my weekly visits.
PBW, thank you! I wore the zebra tee again yesterday and someone finally made a comment ("that's a cool tee"). And it wasn't a JCrew SA!
Ema: Love your frequent updates, esp. your comparative shopping at different stores around town! [Btw, I was too late to get the gray surplus jeans. Yuck.]
ReplyDeleteDominique: My experience with that particular B&M is hit or miss - some helpful ones like Russell and Malinda and Jennifer, others less so. Again it also depends on the timing of your visit - try to avoid the crowd.
