No miracles, as you can see from the pic in the fitting room:
However, while I was holding the extra fabric on the shoulders and looking at the dress with a nostalgic air for what it could have been, it crossed my mind that something could be made about it, as the fabric (the polos cotton pique) looked easy to cut and sew. So I opened the fitting room door, while still holding it in place, to look for some pins.
The reaction from the other ladies in line for the fitting room was wow after wow (for the dress), which convinced me that I had to take the risk and buy it. The price was $39.99 and I still had a 10% off card, and even if I'm sure that it will hit the $19.99 lowpoint I didn't want to regret not buying it now (I'm also sure that the XS will sell out pretty fast).
I meant to have the alteration done this weeek, but I couldn't yet, so I'm going to show you an improved version (with pins in place) of the fitting room pics.
This is how it looks without any alteration and with a bandeau swimsuit:

And this is how it should look after cutting 2 to 3 inches of fabric on the shoulders. The good thing is that because of the ruffle, the sewing hasn't to be perfect and the dress is not going to be too short (at least for me):

Close-up of the neckline:

This is going to be a great everyday dress for the summer, I can't wait to wear it.
Did you try it? Would you buy it?
Great idea. Thanks for the pictures. Pinned in the last pictures it honestly looks too low still...However, I really like it as a swimsuit coverup. I like the way it looks with your yellow suit underneath. That is the only way I could see wearing this dress--as a coverup.
ReplyDeleteI love my tailor, so good for you for buying it and getting it taken in. Perfect and it does look so nice on you!
ReplyDeleteI tried on this dress, because I loved the idea of it, but it didn't work on me at all. Love your alteration - it looks great. And what a great color for the summer!
ReplyDeleteI think you might have something there with wearing a tank underneath it! (I know you did a bathing suit--but a bright fitted tank would be cute!) I like it that way!
ReplyDeleteHi, This is a little late in a response, but I was reading your earlier posts (I LOVE seeing your pics; Thanks!!) and I saw where you listed your app. height/weight. I need to know the details on your Ernest Sewn skinny jeans. I am 2 inches shorter than you, but your jeans and other pics (I promise ) make you look like you're 5'11"!! I want jeans that make me look taller!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat style are they? (If you don't mind telling, of course).
Love your blog!!
Anon, the jeans are Earnest Sewn Harlan 18, cigarette leg and I'm wearing a 26. They are from 3 years ago (they were pretty popular) and I don't know if they still make those. Also, I'm not sure that they make me look that tall IRL, it could be an "optic effect" of the pictures. The sure thing is that they make my legs appear skinny and are very versatile. JBrand has a similar style (cigarette leg). Hope it helps!
ReplyDeleteI hust wanted to update you on this. The price already dropped to $19.99 and I could re-buy it yesterday (actually I didn't even have to re-buy because the SA was kind and made me a price adjustement). For that price I almost bought the hibiscus too, but then thought that one of these is enough. Now I feel much better about spending money on the alteration!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely worth the alteration for you. It looks great :-)
ReplyDeleteIn case you want to buy dirt cheap, New Haven, CT marked all the Pavillion Piques aat 19.99 (all sizes, but colors are navy and the pretty pink). Also I'm big chested, so the scooped worked well for me. Glad you like it! =)
