One Pair of Pants, Three Outfits

How was your Easter? We ended up going out for Easter brunch yesterday but I didn't feel like dressing up after all, we were with friends and their kids and we knew that we would end up at playground in the afternoon since it was a gorgeous spring day here in NYC.
Instead, I wore a comfy but cheerful outfit with the Boatneck popover in cerise. Did you notice that this sweater has been marked down to $19.99? Crazy, it was a god call to return it, I would have been mad had I paid close to full price! When I noticed the online price my size was sold out but I found one in store and they matched the price (it is still $39.99 in stores). Actually this is a XS but it fits like the XXS that I had bought in the other color. I found both colors in store but decided that I prefer this colorway to the apricot/navy.
Anyway, this is my Easter cheerful outfit (even my husband liked it):

The pants are an exact color match for the creamy stripes of the sweater. I have many pairs white pants but these are the only ones that I have in a natural color. They are Talbots from last year and I have to say that I like them much more this year, there was something about the fit that bothered me last year but I needed something in this color. Probably it's not the pants but my body that changed a little bit, I am a bit slimmer in my thighs and they are more flattering. I am wearing them again today to dress down the Boden tweed jacket that I had bought on super-sale last summer and I hadn't worn yet. The tee is Les Petites Victoires tee from JCrew and it is a perfect match for both the pants and the jacket. How do you like this outfit?

Another perfect match for the pants is the stripe twisted stitch sweater that I also bought this weekend on sale (size XS). It would have been cheaper if I had ordered it online but you know what? I actually prefer to avoid final sale and pay a little bit more. The sale price is right on this one and I love the easy-peasiness of it:

I have a big project going on: we have started a renovation of our walk-in closet and we took all the shoes out this past weekend. I am going to count my shoes but I am afraid of the number that I am going to reach. Any of you wants to try to guess?

  1. Your outfits seem very Parisian chic to me for some reason. You seem to score some great deals on sale at JCrew. Any tips? When do you pay full price and when do you wait?

As for the guess....I'm going to go with 45. :)

  2. I don't think I could guess!
I like all of these outfits with the neutral pants, they are the perfect shade.
Ema please email me, I am coming to New York next month and I'd like to meet up if you are available, sorry to leave a message on your blog but I can't see your email address here.

  4. Although you live in NY and space is at a premium, I'm guessing high. 78.

You looked cute on Easter. I tried the henley yesterday. It looks bad on the hanger but it looks cute & feels good on.

  5. kristen, thank you. Maybe it's because I lived in Paris for 8 years and absorbed a little bit of Parisian chic?
I don't have a special formula for getting the best JCrew deals, it's a gamble. Usually my criteria for buying full price versus waiting for a sale is that if I am buying very ahead of the season (like, if I am buying a sundress in January) there are chances that the item will go on sale before I have the chance of wearing it and I will regret the purchase so I try to wait. The other criteria is that if I really like an item and it is store-only or Collection, the chances to get it on sale are slimmer so I try to buy at the first promo available (I have learned from past experiences that it is more easy to miss in store-only or Collection items than the stuff that it is also sold on the website for the simple reason that they produce less).
Also, stalking pays off in most cases. I don't do that much anymore but if yoiu are up in the wee hours there are good deals to be made. Hope it helps

DaniBP, could it be the Tory Burch skirt? I will send you an email soon (my email is crazyaboutjcrew@gmail.com), of course I would like to meet you in NYC!

WMM, thank you! You are way underestimating me ;-)

Gigi, I love that henley. You are very close ;-)

  6. Hi Ema! Lovely spring outfits. My guess is 85. I love shoes, so I know how easy it is to accumulate them and how hard it is to part with them.

  7. Ok, Ema, you've gotten me to guess. I know you like to keep things so I have a feeling you may have some pretty old and loved pairs still around ;) I was going to guess close to Gigi's and A's guesses (84). However, for fun and to be fair, I'll guess 65!

  8. Love your cute Easter outfit.

I get the sense you are quite the shoe collector. I am as well. With that said, I'm gonna guess that you have quite a few pairs so 92 is my guess. Figured it's better to guess high than not high enough.
