Two OOTDs: From Spring to Summer

The weather started to warm up this Saturday, after a quite cold week. I knew that it was going to be warmer but I just didn't feel like wearing a strapless dress and flip-flops just yet. In fact I didn't even feel like wearing brights. Is it just me or you feel weird too when wearing one of those muted, military-inspired colors and clothes that were in every catalog last year? Like I am going to a combat or something. I wasn't going to a combat, I was just taking my daughter to a birthday party (which, mind you, could be described as a special kind of combat) and wanted to be comfortable but look cute. But I felt like people were looking at me and thinking "Look! She is wearing olive green, didn't she get the memo? Brights, one must wear BRIGHTS!" Or at least navy.

I will let "them" think what they want, I still love my olive green items (in fact I will always love them), in particular this cashmere sweater and my JBrand skinny cargos. I added a necklace to make it at least less "I am joining the army" and more "military-chic":

On Sunday it was a bit warmer and I wore again my rugby-stripe dress (one of the best purchases this year), that you have already seen so I didn't take pics. Yesterday it was crazy hot, like in the 90s. I wore the following outfit to school thinking that I would change later for something short-sleeved but that didn't happen. I went to Party City in this outfit to buy party supplies for my daughter's 5th birthday that is coming up in May and needless to say I was SWEATING on my way home (I bought a giant pinata that I had to schlep home, what an idea).
Anyway, this was a "sweet" outfit and the reason why I am posting it (even if's nothing extraordinary) is that you can buy the Pintuck lace-front henley for very cheap during the current promo JCrew.com. The price that they were originally asking for this was a bit crazy ($65, really???) but for $14 is a great casual top. I missed on the vintage lace tee last year and this one has the same feeling. Usually I am not attracted to henleys at all (they always look a bit pajama-y to me) but I like this one. I am wearing a XS (it fits TTS except for the sleeves that are a bit tight):

After drop-off I accessorized with a necklace:

That's it! Do you think that the military-inspired fashion trend is passe and looks weird now?
Are you taking advantage of the current promo (I resisted so far)?
I am preparing a post on shoes and I will need your help, please stay tuned!

  1. i wear my skinny cargos all the time, but i like a bright top with it or a bright scarf.my favorite combination is hot pink or neon pink and olive.
i have one more question to the nolita denim jacket.since you own the size xs,does it fit loose on you or regular?
would the xxs fit you too?
    TIA

  2. I think it is classic, never out of style!
That white top is so pretty. I like white with military colors, it's like a pop of brightness, like Ina's pairings with neons and pinks that look so terrific.
I can't imagine how you carried a pinata home!

  3. The pintuck henley is really pretty on you! Re: the army look, who knows, it is probably passé but I still wear my Trouper pants from last year. I also can't believe you carried a pinata home. Those things are big!

  4. Ina, I have to try the neon trend on olive, than you for the suggestion.
Re. the Nolita, if you want to layer go with your regular size. if you want to wear it as a topper with summer dresses you can size down, mine even if not big isn't too fitted in the body. Hope it helps!

DaniBP, well I didn't walk all the way home, took the subway ;-). Still it was big (not no mention that I also had all the other party supplies). Needless to say the henley went in the laundry bin

Louise, I thin the trouper are very similar to these but they never fit me well.
I always overestimate myself when it comes to carry things home, it must be an European thing!
