Having said that Jcrew also contributed to make this day special as I finally got my hands on some coveted pieces of jewelry that I had been eyeing for a long time.
Firs, last week I ordered the Palm-leaf necklace that went finally on sale for $99. It was a final sale item but I had seen it many times at the Madison Avenue Collection store (even if I had never tried it on) and I knew what to expect, or at least so I thought.
Along with it I also ordered the Chandelier necklace, on sale for $49.99. I wasn't sure about this one but it wasn't marked FS and I needed a filler to reach the $150 free shipping minimum, so I ordered as well.
The package arrived yesterday afternoon, just in time for my birthday. Inside the postage box, I found two nicely wrapped boxes:

I half expected to find a Happy Birthday note from Mickey (maybe I had given this information when I setup the account?), but apparently this is just the regular packaging for this kind of expensive jewelry. Nice touch Jcrew!
Inside one of the boxes, the palm-leaf necklace in metallic rose:

But once unfastened from the wrapping, I had a first disappointment. The necklace is lighter than I expected it to be. On one hand it makes it more weareable; on the other hand, it feels a little bit cheap and not as "luxurious" as you would think it to be for this price.
The second (and major disappointment) is that it is a defective item. As you can see in the picture below, one chain link is missing:

Now, to be honest with you, I think it would be very easy to fix (the only think that I would have to do is to buy the missing link), but I'm also questionning the necklace itself. I'm not sure that I LOVE it. It's one of those pieces like the BR Darion Luncheon Necklace (see my first post), that is a little bit overwhelming. Because it's defective, I think that I won't have any problem to return it in store, even if it's FS (worst-case scenario I will get a store credit). What do you think?
As per the Chandelier necklace, it's not for me (I plain don't like it). I took a pic just for the sake of the blog, but this is going back:

I should be upset that none of them works but actually I'm not because of two great finds that I bought on Friday. I will show you in the next post, stay tuned!
Happy Birthday to you!! You have a wonderful family and it sounds like you are very at peace with your bday.....congratulations on your lifetime achievements! As far as the jcrew necklaces: I must say, I would return both. If you are not in love, then return and get other pieces you do love. After all, I think this bday deserves a wonderful "piece" of some sort. (a beautiful necklace) Can't wait to see what you DID find, though:) Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteYes, you can do better than those. Looking forward to the next post :-)
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gigi, you can do better! I would definitely say return and find something better! It's disappointing they didn't work out but I bet the replacements are even better!!
I have both those necklaces and love them! I don't think that palm leaf looks inexpensive or cheap at all. Having said all that, if you don't love them then you need to hold out for something you do love. Happy birthday!
ReplyDeletehi ema, happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteido not like the chandelier neclace, but the palm-leaf necalce looked nice on you. but if you dont really love it,return it. i am sure there won't be a problem if its defective.
i am thinking about buying the libretto neclace, have you seen it IRL?
so glad you had a good birthday....

I think the Palm-leaf looks lovely on you -- especially with the outfit you have on. It's stunning with a strapless in that color. But how disappointing that it's defective! I agree with you on the chandelier -- definitely return it. It overwhelms you.
ReplyDeleteMrs.anketell, thank you for the wishes. Actually I got the "big" bday piece from my husband :-). I didn't want to buy a real (expensive) statement necklace not to overshadow his present. In fact what I bought (next post) is more understated...
ReplyDeleteGigi, thank you for the wishes (and the wait is over, my post has been published lol).
Summerilla, thank you and yes I'm happy with the replacements...
Ina, thank you! I agree that the palm-leaf necklace looked nice but I'm not sure that I LOVED it. Anyway I have returned it already. As expected they were very nice about it and refunded me without ny problem.
Desert Flower, thank you. I don't think that it looks cheap from the outside, but I couldn't shake the feeling when I took it into my hands. Maybe it's the weight of it or maybe it's just taht I don't love it as much...
laurenmarie10, I agree with you on the chandelier, absolutely a no-go!

Wow the chandelier necklace is HUGE!! The palm leaf looks very pretty on you. The color looks so nice with your skin tone
ReplyDeleteThe chandelier necklace is aptly named. It looks like a bunch of light bulbs hanging from a cord. Maybe if they were red and green for Christmas it could be kitschy-cute, but even that would be too much.
ReplyDeleteI bought two palm necklaces and both not only arrived defective but acquired more defects on their way back to the store! The design of the necklace is the problem as the rings are soldered to the palm thingies and there is too much pressure and they break! It is not so easy to fix. The necklace should have been made with many links to allow movement of the pieces without placing so much pressure on fixed links. And given how easily the necklaces continued to break, I couldn't bear to buy a 3rd! I adore it in mint but ..... finally i did get the earrings and will make a pendant....
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
