So here it is:
It's super pretty IRL but I think that it works because they are both made in sateen and my shoes are the same color than the jacket (or almost). The two colors are enough, without adding a third one!
While I was taking the pictures, I realized that I can also wear a "pants" version of this combo (the cerise cafe capri are almost the same color of the skirt):
While we are in the subject of the spice olive color, I have a little funny anecdote.
When I bought my b-day party dress at Intermix, they also had a top in the same style (one-shouldered and with the big ruffle around the neckline). I tried it in white but didn't feel it and while I was in the fitting room I asked the SA if she could bring me the spice olive one. The SA must not have been a JCA because she looked at me with a puzzled air and then she muttered "Do you mean the green one?". Apparently, yes, I meant the green one. We are so used to the Jcrew color palette and their challanging names than sometimes we forget that spice olive for the rest of the planet is a "green".
I actually bought the spice olive, ehm green, top because I tought it could be nice under the soiree jacket and also because the price was very attractive (OK, also because a lady who was trying the black one looked at me as if she was going to jump on me and take it off me right away), but I regretted and I have since returned it through the Amex return protection program (it was FS).
I have taken some "souvenir" snapshots though that I want to share with you:

And here it's with the jacket (I didn't like it that much under the blazer and that's the reason why I returned it):

Do you like the spice olive/orange color combination? Would you wear it or do you think it's too much? Do you prefer the skirt or the pants version of my outfit? Do you have the Gateau skirt? How do you wear it?
Hi Ema:
ReplyDeleteLove it with the pants! Not crazy about it with the skirt. If I were to wear the jacket with a skirt I prefer a pencil skirt. Being that the orange gateau is flary, I'd like to see it with a fitted tee.
Love your blog...Obsessed with J Crew.
i agree, i am not crazy about the blazer with the skirt, but i like it with the pants.
ReplyDeletethe spicy olive is a beautiful color on you.
love,love the one-shoulder ruffle top!
Maaaybe if the blazer w/open w/a tee & belt, the skirt might work. Otherwise, I am a fan of the pants & blazer combo for sure! I wore my orange gateau with the chiffon rose tee in the shell color. Easy outfit.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure...to me it's too much bright color...I think the two colors go nicely together, but need to be mixed in with a print (like the jacket with an orange and white print on the bottom).
ReplyDeleteFunny, I really like it with the skirt! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the waist of the jacket and the fullness of the skirt give you really nice proportions.
Luv fashion, I'm still looking for a top to go with the skirt... Thanks for the compliment on the blog (funny, I was thinking of a post about my Jcrew addiction, check later)!
ReplyDeleteina, thank you for sharing (I like it with the skirt more). The one-shoulder top is gone (I realized that I had nowhere to go with it, it's more elegant that I initially thought), but I still have the dress ...
gigi, I hadn't thought for a minute of wearing it with the rosette tee, thank you for the suggestion, I must try that!
Zoe Moet, I hear you, but I still like the combo like this. Actually, I snapped this morning (after almost giving up on it because it was long-time gone) the Long washed-silk scarf in light khaki (I have seen it IRL and goes perfectly with the color of the jacket) which is striped so I might add that to the outfit, maybe it's going to break the colorblock.
Anne, thank you, I agree with you! I think it's such an elegant but fun outfit for an occasion (now I have to find the occasion).
I have that skirt- i actually wore it to work a few wks ago and my co workers told me that I looked very preppy. I wore it w/ a white s/s button down (madonna for h&m) and a navy jackie cardigan. I have the skirt in pale yellow.
ReplyDeletebtw- i love your blog
