Jcrew New Arrivals (Part 2): New Tees

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know that I love a nice tee. First I have to say that I was disappointed with this rollout in terms of tees because I had high expectations (this time last year they came up with some great tees, like the "C'est la Vie" and "Buon Viaggio") and I thought that they would have some retail-only tees that I would fall in love with. Maybe they hadn't received everything yet, maybe the great tees are yet to come in the next rollouts, or maybe we are left with ebay, we will see.
I apologize but I feel lazy and I'm not going to add the links to the website pages, but if you're confused or unsure of which tee I'm talking about I'll be happy to answer in the comments.

They didn't have my favorite from the catalog, the Tissue beaded crest tee (major disappointment), so let's start with the slub-cotton Imperial tee (item 18095).
The graphism is really great, but as it's a summer-thin, sheer, white tee. Not sure why they decided to offer it in the first "Fall" roll-out (maybe the production of this was delayed?) I know it's not even August yet, but Jcrew must know that as soon as we start to see purple everywhere instead of summer shades, we don't want to buy turquoise any longer. Or see-through white. Honestly if wasn't headed to the beach in one week I wouldn't have bought it (and actually I'm still undecided about it).
Anyway, here it is, decide by yourself if you want to invest $32.50 in a tee that you are probably going to wear for one or two months maximum:

Don't get me wrong, it's very cute and well made, in the tradition of their great graphic tees, but it's a bummer that it came out so late in the (summer) season. Anyway, I tried an XS and as you can see it fits perfectly (it fits like the graphic tissue tees, not like the BF tee).

They had another "graphic" tee (retail-only I think) that I initially liked until I started to see a series or "creature" heads in the print:

Do you see them or it's just me? I think this one was $29.50.

It was the first time that I got to see the "Tissue Sparkling rose tee" in real life and I tried the light pewter (I can't remember if I tried a S or XS, but I think it'a S):

If the Imperial tee came out too late, this came out too early (it has been on the website for a while and many of you have already seen it in the blogosphere): the colors are very in line with their fall palette and it would look great with the cords in weathered wisteria that I'm wearing in the second pic with the Imperial tee. I think that this might be a good transitional tee for fall, so I'm going to check it out again when it goes on sale.

From the textured tees, I tried the Textured jersey boatneck painter tee. It looked like a nice idea but there was something really wrong with the fit (here is in the plum color):

They also had the Slub cotton swirling flowers tee but I'm so tired of swirling things in pastels that I didn't even bother to try it on. Sorry! They also had the Slub cotton stamped paisley tee in a new color (dark green on green), but again I was uninspired.

Bud don't worry, I left the best for the end. I did see a tee that I really liked, although it wasn't what I was looking for.
It's very similar to the Long-sleeve stripe captain tee (item 17262) but I'm not positive that it's the same one as the stripes appear to be bigger on the tee that I have tried and I'm pretty sure that it was priced at $34 and not 32.50. On the other side it has the same "epaulets on the shoulder with gold button detail". This might be the first mystery of the season...
Anyway, it came in three colors: navy, gray and a apricot-beige. This is the navy:

And this is the beige (I'm posting it only to show you the epaulete detail and because I blocked the anons'comments I'm sure that I won't get any comment on my nipples):

I think that the fabric is the same as the perfect-fit tees, so the ideal weight for the first days of fall when the weather freshens up. I didn't buy it for the time being because I have a similar one but I'm considering it.

This is pretty much it. What do you think? What's your favorite one? Did you see any other new tee? I would love to hear from you!

  2. I also bought the imperial tee, I had the same thoughts as you, too thin! It just fits so nicely that I thought it would good under a cardigan for fall. I do like the stripe, I will check it out when I get to a store. Thanks for the photos!

  3. I love the imperial tee... I'd wear with cardis/under jacket in the Fall I think too...

  4. I did try on the swirling flowers tee and it is TTS. I also saw another tee - black with a crystal/sequin detail on one side of the collar (sorry that's a bad description - I didn't pick it up or try it on). No idea of how it fits or price. I loved the boat neck tee, although I had to size up due to my chest. The only strange thing is the sleeve length, it hit right above my wrist, so I'll push them up. It was so flattering on that I would like another color. I bought the plum - such a pretty color!

I didn't see the imperial tee or the second tee.

  5. Oh, scary came to mind before I even read your comments about the second tee!

I just received the imperial tee today and am going to keep it. It is thin but there's something I love about it. I also know it's going to be a handwash setting tee that has to lay out to dry. At least I have so many of these handwash tee's now I can make a load of wash!

Thanks for your posts w/pics! They're so helpful!! :)

  6. I love the striped long sleeve the best. I tried on all these today and will be reviewing soon. I share your feelings on some. :-)

  7. i see weird animals on the 2nd tee too! these are definitely not up to par with last year's...loved the Buon Viaggio, sieze il giorno, rose tee, frank's shoe tee, candy tees towards the holidays, etc.

  9. thank you for yor reviews, i hate not been near a store.
the imperial tee looks nice,do you think it would be great under cardigans?
yes i am still contemplating the libretto neclace, but i have a birthday coming up and i might get it.
the duchess bracelet looks so nice online, but i am very petite and since you said it is big i am waiting on that one.
have you seen the golden cypress color IRL(jackie cardigan)? is it more yelloy or green? can you describe it?
    TIA

  10. KDot, trippy is exactly the word that I was looking for to describe this tee, thank you!

Kathy, thank you! Yes, the fit of the Imperial is really great. I think that it might also look good under a black velvet jacket or a "boyfriend" blazer and skinny jeans (for those you can pull off the look).

Sweet Tea, I think that because of the weight the perfect cardigan for this tee is a tissue one, like the soft tee one, or a terry cardi, not sure about a heavier one.

Math Teacher, I did see the tee with the crystal detail on one side of the collar when I was getting out of the store si I didn't try it on (but it was grey I think, like dark charcoal).
Yes, size up in the boatneck tee is a good advice (I should have).

IRL, thank you! I think that the Imperial tee is going to bit a big hit (also because of the lack of other great options so far).

Gigi, can't wait to see you pics and as you said ...weird.

jcbellemarie, I agree with you, last years' tees were so much better.

    ina, thank you!
Yes I saw the golden cypress jackie and it's more green than yellow.

  11. I'm laughing at your comment about the slub swirling flowers tee! I actually did get the grey one yesterday (grey isn't a pastel, is it?:)). And after our "conversation" about the matchstick cords, I went back and got the bootcut cords. They fit me much better than the matchsticks.

  12. funny about the "seeing creatures" because that's what i see, too!! I kinda like the imperial tee----but not enough. I do think the sparkling rose tee in pewter is nice, and i see some colors in it, like you said, that are perfect for fall. So, i may get that one. Great post!! thank you!!

  13. Thanks so much for the info. on the ribbon-front top, Ema. As for the chiffon, I am wondering if it will develop hanging threads/disintegrate (I have not had good luck with anything with chiffon detail from JC). I'll look forward to your post with styling details.

The post about ts is great, too-thanks so much. I ordered the striped top on a WWFIFY, based on pics I saw from the fall preview online. I am now horrified to see it has epaulettes (they look great on some, they are just not my style). It will likely go back, and I am wondering about the boatneck in plum raisin, which I loved the look of-can you elaborate on the weird fit? Thanks so much again for all the great info!

  14. Katherine, we can say that grey is a neutral, I can give you that ;-).
I haven't bought the bootcuts in at least three years (I have a pair in chocolate and I don't wear them any longer) but it looks like this year they could be better than the matchstick. And IO love the colors!

Corry, the epauletes are very small and actually I think they are a nice detail, so I wouldn't freak out...
The boatneck was very snug and because the fabric is very substantial (it almsot feels like terry) I would reccomend to size up.

  15. Great reviews, thank you! I had high hopes for the boatneck tee. I love a good boatneck tee for fall, but this looks very long. Are the sleeves in your picture cuffed, or are they cropped?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Stephanie, it is long for sure and gets stuck at the hips. The sleeves are slightly cropped (not cuffed). And thanks!

  17. Thanks for all your IRL pictures! Even though I tried a lot of them on myself I still love seeing them on other people!

  18. Hi Ema! I actually got the grey tee that some of you see animals in and really like it. The print seems more *Tribal* to me, personally. It's going to be perfect under a Gap shrunken blazer that I already have, and also looks really cute with my Old Navy Black and white *Ikat* print shorts. I also picked up the striped long-sleeve crewneck but got the Ivory/Grey striped one that you don't have a picture of. I didn't see the Imperial tee, but it's never been on my wishlist, so I wasn't too disappointed. Thanks for the pics and reviews! :)

  19. LOVE the navy striped tee. I am going to look for that!!! :)

  20. Went to store today-----didn't like the sparkling tee after all. Instead, i bought a "candy tee" type---it's light brown and it says something like "headache be gone!" and it's got clear stones around the saying. Very cute........

    ReplyDelete
  21. mrs.anketell - I got that tee, too. I know I'm on the crewlade buying a tee that says HEADACHE in all caps. *lol* It's so pretty & I love the beading. Only $29.50.

  22. I saw the beaded crest tee today in stores. You won't be disappointed. It's very nice. Very elegant design and well-constructed. Feels great on the body too.

  23. FFM, I'm sure you're going to rock that tee. I liked before seeing the animals, and now I can't get past that...
The striped tee in grey is cute but I'm contemplating the navy (I think I'm going to get more wear out of it through the fall).
Did you get the ribbon-front top?
    Thank you for stopping by!

mrs.anketell, Gigi and Susan, now I have to go back and check this tee you're talking about (Gigi, waiting for your post!)
