In the meanwhile, I have a lot to blog about and I'm going to start with a recent acquisition in one of my favorite colors, dark charcoal (or one of its variant, heather carbon). And yes, Dinagedeon, I have voted for dark charcoal as my favorite Jcrew color!
What can I say? I just think that this is a great color on me. And it's not black, which makes it a better color for the day. I don't like walking around in black in the daylight: wearing total black during the day is very assertive and I always feel like a fashion victim who's trying too hard or, inversely, some kind of poet or existentialist (or existentialist poet) who doesn't care about fashion trends and wears black because we are all going to die anyway (this happens in particular when I'm not wearing makeup).
But I can wear "total dark charcoal" to do errands or go to the park and feel good about it.
I have recently purchased a few items in dark slate (the Frances and the beaded medallion tee, on sale) but the one that inspired me to write this post is the Whirling ruffle cardigan.
I had totally missed this cardigan when it came out. I was on vacation or not paying attention. Then, when I started to notice it (on other blogs) it was already sold out everywhere in the dark charcoal (which is technically called heather carbon in this sweater). For the first time ever I have purchased it on ebay for a higher price than the original FP (knowing that it was on Final Sale) just because I had to have it, like, right away (it popped back on the website a few times but in the other color and I just couldn't wait for this one. The trigger, I think, was that I had vaguely considered pairing it with the dress of Option #3 for the wedding because it looked elegant enough).
But I took a risk because I had never tried it on (nor seen it IRL for that matter), so I went with a XS, which is my regular size in V-neck cardigans (while I'm more of a S in crewnecks).
When it arrived and I took it out of the plastic bag (that BTW was the original Jcrew plastic bag marked with "Final Sale"), my first reaction was "Love it!" but my second reaction was "I should probably have bought a S" because at first it looked a little bit small. But it turned out to be a false alert because the XS, even if a little bit snug in the sleeves, fits me really well and the S would have been a mistake.
So here are a couple of outfits with this sweater. Soon enough it will be too cold to wear it because as you probably know is a tee cotton sweater, so I'm probably going to wear one of them this week.
Here is worn with the "dogggies" tee (you have probably seen this pairing on a Polyvore set by FFM, I have totally copied it) and skinny jeans for a casual look:

I have added the second pic just to show off my new haircut while is still fresh (thank you Gigi for noticing in my previous post!)
Here is with the Frances, which is technically dark slate (but can you tell the difference?):

I'm more and more in love with the Frances, the ruffles are really beautiful. And while you can find ruffles elsewhere, you will probably find them in black and not dark charcoal (OK, slate).
This is the last outfit, with Minnie pants (coal!), Nine West boots (they come across dark brown in the pic but they are a "light black") and the white (Maisy?) shirt (with ruffled collar that you can't see) from last year:

I really love this outfit, it's crisp and elegant (and it looks even better IRL).
BTW I did try it also with the grey dress and it looks beautiful, just not for a wedding.
I'm very pleased with this purchase, even if I ended up paying more than FP (not to mention FS). I think that it's a beautiful piece and it looks much more expensive than its original price. If only Jcrew could make more of these original, well-made and well-priced items!
Do you have this cardigan? Would you have paid FP (or plus) for it? In case you want to purchase one on ebay, they were available in all the sizes.
i also love this cardigan, i bought it rightwhen it came out, because i knew it would be gone, since it was in the glamour fall preview.
ReplyDeletei have the xs too and the fitis perfect.
it looks great on you!
I bought the lighter pink color when it went on sale. I love it and also wish I had the dark charcoal/slate color which happens to be my favorite JC color (I also voted on Dina's blog!). I love it with the dog tee. I ended getting the Jaspe cardigan in black which looks like dark slate.
ReplyDeleteI also thought this cardigan was fairly priced for the quality unlike some of the beaded tees JC has and is selling for $40+... Why can't they make more of these good quality cardigans?!
I love that cardi and now I definitely wish I had purchased it. It looks terrific on you!
ReplyDeleteSo true about wearing black in the day, I feel the same. hehe "existential poet, we're all gonna die anyway!"
Charcoal is perfect for day, love your outfits!
Great haircut too!
I also purchased this cardigan in the charcoal and love it. Totally unrelated - have you by any chance tried on the 'ink spot dress'? Item 15194 --- am thinking of buying but have no idea how it might fit -- thanks so much!! Anna
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous! I also have this cardigan and I love it, especially loved the price!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I have this cardigan, in the buff pink color, and LOVE it. I ended up buying it, final sale, when it got marked down to 29.99, which i thought was a total steal for this quality cardigan. I bought it in a Medium, which fits perfectly. I wish I had gotten this one in the charcoal color! Charcoal is my fav. color, too, as it makes you feel "dressed up" at the playground, hehe:) Love all of your outfits here, too!!
ReplyDeleteina, congratulations, that was a good call! I still don't understand how could I miss it when it hit the stores!
ReplyDeletejcmama, I didn't know that the Jaspe came also in black.
I wish they made this cardigan in a wool blend too, I would buy it again! And yes, compared to all the overpriced tee, this one was so well priced!
Dani BP, thank you! And I was hoping you in particular would appreciate the joke (hehe).
Anna, no, I'm sorry I have never tried that dress (too nostalgic for my taste).
Summerilla, thank you. If I remember correctly you bought the other color and it looked great on you (while it's a little bit too pale for me).
i missed out on this cardigan and can't seem to get it in a pop back. You were lucky to get it and I must say it looks fantastic on you....yes, you look very elegant and pulled together.. I love your riding boots.
ReplyDeleteLove all the cardi outfits on you, esp the last one. JC's charcoal/carbon/slate is one of my fave colors, too. It's so much more flattering than black - and I find that it works really well on my yellow-toned skin. It almost makes me look tan in the winter.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this cardi as well! I actually purchased this color at FP as soon as it was available and then I purchased the buff pink color on FS for $29.99!! I am soooo glad that I have both colors! Even at FP, the $$ was great- J.Crew really needs to come out w/ more items like this one at the same price point! :)
ReplyDeleteI also am a HUGE fan of the charcoal/carbon/slate colors. I just can't seem to get enough of it! :-P It looks so much nicer than black does on me!
Thanks for sharing these pictures! I love the outfits you have created w/ this cardi! I am STILL looking forward to your wedding outfit post as well! ;)

ReplyDeleteYou have amazing style and look beautiful in everything you wear.
I have both colors too! I bought the charcoal at FP because it was selling out so fast - very unusual for me! The nude-ish I got on sale. Love it with the dogs T. I hadn't really thought of wearing it open... And how fab do you look in the Minnis?! :)
ReplyDeleteI have purchased something on eBay for a higher price than the final sale price offered on jcrew.com. The final sale price is worthless if I cannot score a popback in my size. I just evaluate my desire for the item and set a max price in my mind that I'll pay. I paid full price for this and I'm happy I did. I haven't seen my size/color at a lower price since I purchased it.
