The biggest deception of this rollout has been for me the Bazaar tunic dress. The print is stunning (more stunning IRL than in the pics IMO) and this is a style that I love to wear, but the fit was just horrible on me. Overall it was too big and the collar was just weird (plus it was too low cut to be worn without a cami and I just HATE wearing camis). I tried it in my size, a 0 (don't laugh):

I think that this looks much better on tall ladies (it looks divine on Summerilla), so if you are 5'2" like me there are chances that it won't fit you well. I agree that the loafers in the picture aren't the best shoes for this dress (to say the least) but it wasn't a matter of styling, it was really a bad fit on me.
I also tried the beaded shell in the same print, but it was boxy (this is the 0):

Another shell that I have tried is the Watercolor garden shell. This one was beautiful and perfectly cut but at $150 definitively overpriced (it is cotton and unlined but not sheer if I remember correctly). It is a "black label" Collection item and if I had the budget and lifestyle for this I would definitively get it:

This watercolor garden print also comes in a pencil skirt, a cardigan and a dress so you have plenty of option. I haven't tried any of these but I saw both the skirt and the dress and both looked stunning (again, if you have the occasion to wear them).
The PS insisted for me to try the Vintage canvas bow tank in muted grape, that apparently was flying off the shelves. A good price point but it looked deja crew to me and even if it wasn't bad, I had no interest in it. The XS was big around the armpits:

Another shell a little bit deja crew: the Linen-cotton tiered bateau shell. It felt comfortable to wear but how many ruffled/tiered tops one can have?

They had tons of new tees, which is surprising because I was under the impression that tees weren't selling well this season. You have seen the "Lester's hat" tee that I bought in one of my previous posts (sorry, I'm too lazy to create the link).
Here is another one, in the neon melon color:

I can't figure out if the following one is the same than the Tie-dye ribbon tee. Probably not because it's a V-neck but it was $58 or $52 and I have to say that I LOVED it and if it weren't for the price I would have bought it. It's a nice "occasion" tee, to wear with a pencil skirk for example:

I had other tees to try but that's when my daughter started to band the door (just for fun, because banging doors is what toddlers do) so I had to leave them for the next time.
Do you see anything that you like in these pics? Have you bought any of these new arrivals? Please share!

ReplyDeleteI think you're right about the tunique dress being better if you're taller. I'm 5'4 and I loved the print so much I bought it with hopes it could be altered so I wouldn't have to wear a cami, but it is a pretty big alteration job since it involves bringing in the shoulders. Sadly, I had to return it.
Thanks for posting more of the new arrivals. I love the tees, but they're too over priced. I was surprised that the hat tee was so affordable...that's why it came home with me. I have enough tees to wait for a sale. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteYay! New arrivals post!! When i went into the store, I was also surprised at how many tees they had!! I got the "hat tee" ---but there were a few others i wanted. I love that vintage bow top on you!! I think it looks really great on you, and you should maybe get it...(enabler, i know!) I am hoping for more easy, cotton summer dresses,though.......have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeletethanks for modelling! Those big prints don't look so great on shorites, even very slim "petite model" kinds like you.
ReplyDeleteI love that dress .I just seen at J Crew tonight I'm so getting this dress and I found the perfect sandal for it too!
ReplyDeleteOh My, I love that watercolor garden shell, it is gorgeous. Very pricey, though Collection is usually worth it...
ReplyDeleteThe tie-dyed ribbon tee is GREAT!
You daughter is so cute. I think you do very well trying things on with a toddler!
Thanks for the RL pics, always so appreciated. :)
Got that Bazaar dress and wore it to a wedding already.... but have to retire it until after I have this baby so I don't stretch it out! Agree that the neckline is a bit wierd ... I would wear a cami if I was wearing the dress to church or something, but for an afternoon wedding it was fine (on me... I'm not well-endowed at all!)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that neon tee shirt for some reason!
Love all you IRL pics... thanks!
not enthused about the big square medallion in the middle of the dress...however, if a person really wanted to wear it, you could probably stitch a bit of fabric across the bottom of the "V" to make it less revealing and to avoid having to wear a cami.
ReplyDeleteI HAD to have the Bazaar tunic dress! =P I am 5'8" though so that's probably why it worked for me!?! Now... bring on the warm weather so I can wear it! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing~ I still haven't seen anything that looks *bad* on you! :D
hum.... I just don't know what to make of this post. I don't think the tunic looks bad on you (but the shoes really don't help - not good with the dress)
ReplyDeleteI am 5'3" and bought the dress and like it a lot - now I wonder if I'm fooling myself and really look silly but just can't see it.
Kris, I'm sorry that it didn't work you either but you're right, it would be a pretty expensive alteration with no granted result, so is not worth it.
ReplyDeletePatina, yes I had the same reaction when I saw the price of the hat tee (not to mention when it came up discounted). As you I will wait for a sale on the other tees.
mrs.anketell, thank you but I'm not interested in the bow top ;-).
fidele, thank you. Yes, this print is probably too much on shorties but if the fit were good I would have probably caved anyways.
Pink Inc., on the right person and with the right pair of sandals it could look amazing, so yay for you!
DaniBP, yes it is really pretty (final sale I'm here!) And yes, taking pics with a toddler can be challanging, glad that you appreciate the effort!
Linsday B., I saw the dress on you and looked definitively MUCH better on you. But you're taller, right? And maybe the baby bump helps in this case.
C, thanks for the suggestion. Those who bought it and don't have other fit issues will appreciate it!
MMM, thank you but everything is relative, right? I didn't feel good in the dress and that's what counts. Happy that it worked for you!
LilyBart, if you bought the dress and you like it on you, you shouldn't let my post convince you of the opposite. I did it for those who are wondering about the fit and haven't bought it yet. Of course I could be wrong.
hello there, just found your blog, while i was looking for IRL pics of some recent jcrew final sale purchases (need styling ideas). anyways love your website and thx for sharing all your outfits. also re hating camis - have you ever tried wearing a cami-style bra (instead of bra + regular cami). i do this in the summer to minimize layers and it looks more modest like you're wearing a cami, even tho you're really just exposing your bra ;P
