JCrew Spring Blazers

I have been trying a lot of jackets as of late, so I have enough "material" for a post on the new jackets that JCrew is offering this spring. I haven't tried any "utility" jacket as I have many and honestly I think that you can get a better deal at other retailers (like Old Navy).

The first is the Tweed jubilee jacket. I tried this one for a friend who was interested but nowhere near a store. I really liked the fit but the color washed me out and it is one of the most expensive jackets out there. I think that I would have considered buying it on sale if it came in another color (a grey maybe?). But even the SA, in an impetus of sincerity, said that the color was meh on me:

Buttoned up (the 0 was perfect with a tee/cami but a little bit tight in the shoulders when worn with a sweater):

Close-up on the fabric. It's a cotton tweed and it's very comfortable to wear (not stiff at all, but for $350 that should be a given). It has threads of canary yellow that don't show up well in the pic:

The next one is similar but a little bit less classic (it has an "unfinished" feeling). This just came out in the new rollout and I don't have the style number. It was priced at $350 as well. It looks like $350 is the new standard for a jacket this year. I have only seen it oin this orangy color:

The next one is probably my favorite. It's the Rose vines blazer that retails for $168. A totally useless jacket, because it's so lightweight that you could wear a shirt instead. However, the print is so pretty that it was hard to resist (but don't worry, I resisted). By the way, it's the same rose vines print that the shorts, the romper and the perfect shirt come in but yet another shade, called "bright orange" (the overall effect is that of a white jacket):

Basically it's the 2010 edition of the poppy floral jacket from last year, but the ruching at the back make the fit more feminine:

The next one is the Calvary linen twill blazer. Nothing special, really, and it fits big, I was swimming in the 0:

I also tried the Tweed Delphine blazer but completely forgot to take pics. It was a little bit boxy on me but I think that I will retry it when it goes on sale. It has beautiful "fleur de lys" golden buttons and looks more like a Chanel than a Chanel knockoff.

I didn't buy any of these jackets, but got another one that is currently on sale. But that's for another post.
Are you considering buying one of these jackets? Do you own one? Please share!

Enjoy the day!

  1. Nope, no need for a spring blazer for me!! although, great idea for a post:) I will be wearing the utility/boyfriend coat from last fall (jcrew) that will also be nice for spring. Were you going to do another post, on the new jcrew tee you bought?

  2. Too bad about the linen calvary blazer, I had my eye on that since it looked so nicely photographed online.

Thanks for doing these reviews, I can't ever seem to get enough of the JC blazers - but I agree about the pricing, I guess $350 is the new $150.

  4. Agreed - $350 is too high. I especially love that first one. I don't wear yellow so I'm not sure why I'm drawn to it. Thanks for sharing the photos and I am curious about what you *did* get!

  6. Great post - very helpful for me because I'm thinking about taking the blazer plunge, but have no idea where to start. I'm curvy, and don't want to hide my best asset with a boxey blazer, so wondering which fits would be best. I loved the JC blazer that came in the redwood color, and almost bought it when it went on sale, but held back because wasn't sure that it was a 'smart' purchase.

  7. Of course I like the $350 jackets, but that price is insane. I am not in the market for one anytime soon. I have the Liberty print blazer from last year in "cloud" and I love it, very comfy and pretty. You're right, it's like wearing a shirt... but it looks nice with a tee shirt and jeans, very simple.
So I think the Rose Vines is the winner here! ;)

  8. The first jacket is my favorite. It's too bad about the color not working for you, and of course the price tag is way out there. The weave looks a lot like the Waverly jacket from a couple of years ago, but in a different color. I'll definitely be pulling my older jackets out again rather than spending $350 for a new one! Thanks for sharing the pictures Ema - it's so helpful to see your in store try-ons! :)

  9. I'm not excited about any of these. Esp the 2nd one. It looks like it's layered with a hoodie underneath or something. The floral print one seems very you & it's cute in person, as is the Dauphine. Yeah, I guess $350 is the new price point. Ouch.

  11. OH! I did a search thru my favorite J Crew bloggers to find a review of the Lollipop ribbon (as it is a steal just now!) How did it fit? Normally I would take a 4 in J Crew jackets, except in the collection peices I sometimes size down (example.... my beloved dauphine jacket!). Could you give me some advice? I bought the rose vines, and found it for $39.99 at a B&M, and squeezed myself into a 2, but truly, now will only wear cami's under it. Help Ema!!!! Thanks for your input.....

  12. The Chic chauffeur, it was
a long time ago but if my memory doesn't fail me it fits TTS, I would go with your regular size. The vine blazer is definitively more fitted though so if your size isn't available I would rather size down than up. Hope that it helps!
