Actually I have to thank mrs.anketell that suggested in one of the comments to try the camel striped tee with black pants. And also my daughter who picked the sweater in my closet (it was "yellow day" at school and warm maize reads definitively as yellow to someone who just learned the difference between red, yellow and blue).
I'm getting a lot of wear out of this little cashmere cardigan, the mustard-y color is a good neutral and it doesn't wash me out as a paler shade probably would:

Part of the "feeling good" sensation comes from the pants. These are one of those perfectly tailored pants that Theory can make. They are slightly cropped and have "sailor" buttonhole details:

I don't wear them often because I bought them (at a sample sale) when I was four months pregnant and I sized up to a four (my regular size in Theory pants is a 0 or 2 depending on the style). I should have them altered in the waist now that I am my regular size again but I always procrastinate, so I need to wear them with a belt. I don't have a great non-jeans black belt (it's on my shopping list but I haven't found one yet) so I tried it with my all-purpose belt that I bought recently at Jcrew and it worked well with the colors of the tee and cardigan:

I'm going to try to respond to the comments to my last posts this afternoon (I really enjoyed the comments on my BR/Vuitton purse dilemma). Have a wonderful weekend all!
Good morning!!!! I was so happy to read that you mentioned my name, on your blog:) So sweet. I just love the look of this camel striped shirt with simple black pants/capri's. This look is great for all year round! I may have to try my maternity black capri's from Pea in the Pod with my camel striped shirt now-----You styled it fantastically, with the warm maize cardigan, I love that! Now i need to find a similar colored cardigan like yours. I love your blog!!!! Happy weekend!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great outfit! Mrs. Anketell: you have great suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI really like the color of that cardi, too.
Camel+Black: It's really classic. Love it!
Love the outfit!! And...ding! Lightbulb moment for me - you make an important point about shopping that I had never thought about before. They say (whoever they is) that you should dress decently when you shop to get good service. But if you shop while wearing clothes that make you feel great, it can act as a counterbalance to overpurchasing. Kinda like when shoe shopping - you may think something is comfortable until you put your old shoes back on.
ReplyDeleteSo if you shop in grubbies, chances are that all the clothes you try on will just seem fab and make you want to buy them. If you shop in a great, confidence boosting outfit, you don't need the new clothes to make you feel good. Ok, that's simplifying it a bit, but sporting that great outfit while shopping gives you a yardstick by which to measure potential purchases.
Never thought of it that way before...
Your outfit is slammin'! Luve!
