First up the much talked about in-store-only color of the Sunnie pencil skirt. I forgot to write down the color code but the style is the same as the Sunnie. It's on the short side of their pencil skirts (remember that I am only 5'2"). At first I really liked it but when I think about when/how I could wear it I realize that it gives me a "suburban mom" vibe (nothing against suburban moms but if I try to picture myself wearing it I see afternoon teas and school meetings or church and I don't do any of these). Anyway, it's a beautiful skirt if you have a lifestyle for it. I am trying it with the wooly ribbed turtleneck in bronzed olive but the merino turtleneck in the new light wisteria color is a perfect match for this skirt and brings out the lavender in the skirt:

You have already seen the plaid version of the bell skirt in my previous post. Here I am going to show you the taffeta marveille mini in black. This one caught my eye when it came out in the last rollout and I have to say that I LOVE it. It's a great (and affordable) skirt for the holidays. I saw the purple, the grey and the black IRL and I have a preference for the black one because I am not a fan of the grosgrain waistband and it is less visible in the black color. I yet have to see the navy one but I will probably go with the black. Here I am wearing a size 2 (I sized one up because I don't want it to be too shorts as I am going to wear it with heels):

And here with the Tweed Tatum jacket. I need another tweed jacket like a bullet in my head but I really, really loved this one (especially with this skirt) and if it goes down in price I will probably get it. By the way, it is basically the winter version of the Lollipop but the tweed fabric makes it less boxy than the Lollipop IMO. If you like playing matchy-matchy it's the same tweed of the Moss pencil skirt. I am trying a 0 here:

On the other hand, a jacket that didn't work at all on me is the Boutonniere blazer. I tried a 0 and the fit was off, so I tried a 2 and it was even worst. I think that the problem is that it is too high waisted for me. It looked so cute on the hunger though! This is the 2 in grey:

When I tried these they had the coat promo going on, so I tried the Double-cloth Dollop coat that I was curious about when it came out. Unfortunately, I found it a little bit unflattering (it made me feel like I had a big chest or a "bun in the oven"). This is a 2:

Another item that I was really curious about is the Linley chino. They look more like riding pants than chinos IMO (because of the diagonal stitch detail on the calves and the very slim fit) and they sit a little bit higher on the waist than your regular chinos. Here I am trying a 0, TTS:

I really liked them but will wait for a sale as I don't need another pair of casual pants and I like to wear cords more than cotton pants when it gets colder (these may be the last famous words though because these will work great tucked in boots).
What do you think? Ant must have for you from this selection or the November catalog?
I really like the top 2 outfits and the tweed blazer! I was ready to get myself another black blazer, but now that I see the tweed one maybe I will wait! It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI have photos of the Linley chino pants in size 2 on my blog (http://1moreshoppingblog.blogspot.com/search?q=linley)
I didn't find them too fitted on my legs, as you can see.
There were lots of cute things (and colors) in the Nov catalog like the wool bell skirt and the Alexie sweater. I'm going to stop in the store this evening to get an idea about fit and color.
ReplyDeleteI remember that tweed blazer from the catalog and loved it styled with those chinos and wedges. It looks great on you and that taffeta skirt is adorable. I just feel like taffeta might be too much for work though. I hope it doesn't look too short on me as I'm about 2 inches taller than you.
Would you say the Sunnie skirt is TTS or fits small? I'm usually a p00, and I noticed that the skirt doesn't come in petite. I wonder if the regular 00 would fit me.
ReplyDeleteYou look great in the taffeta skirt and tweed jacket. Thanks for the reviews.
ReplyDeleteLove the Tweed Tatum on you! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove the tweed blazer and i could see myself going matchy matchy with the skirt. :) I also like the sweater you're wearing with the Linley pant. I picked this pant up in black and will probably get the caramel color at a later date.
ReplyDeleteI can't get past the fabric content on the Boutonniere blazer, but otherwise, i think it's cute.
I'm returning my Sunnie pencil skirt due to fit reasons.
Great fitting room pics. I love the taffeta skirt and Tatum blazer -- they're now on my list to try this week!
ReplyDeleteHi! The black skirt/mini looks fabulous on you----i hope this item makes it to your closet someday:) thanks, again, for these pictures and this post!! loving the drapey sequin tank, the sundrine flannel dress, (do you like this?? it seems like something you would love! im just thinking it may be too short...) the dream zip henley cardigan, and the ribbed open shawl collar cardigan (did you see this item in store?? i really must check this sweater out)
ReplyDeleteI love the tweed blazer and skirt combo on you. THanks for all the reviews!
ReplyDeleteI like those chino pants, that fitted look would be fab with boots, you are right.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Mrs. Anketell, I am curious about the Sundrine flannel dress. Have you seen it in store? It looks cute, but a drop waist is not always flattering.
Everything looks great on you, love the tweed jacket too, nice fitted waist on that one!
Rose, yes they look great on you (BTW, I tried to leave a comment from my phone to that post but it didn't work).
ReplyDeletefhonmymind, I love how they styled the Tatum in the catalog too. I do believe that the taffeta skirt is a party skirt (it has a tulle underskirt that makes it puffy), and definitively too much for work. You can size up in this one, it fits small.
Sidney, I think the fit is a little bit small, like the ikat embroided one from this summer. If you are a P0 I think that the 00 will fit you. If you are a P00 (I didn't know that they made P00) probably not...
JuliesStyles and fidele, thanks. The Tatum jacket is officially on my sale watchlist!
Cleo, the sweater was $98 and had incredibly long sleeves. I didn't have any other information so I decided not to post about it.
Love the Linley too!
Decaf, let us know if you liked them!
mrs. anketell, I haven't seen the ribbed open cardigan IRL, the stores that I have visited didn't have that one.
The taffeta mini just made it to my closet, it was too cute :-).
closet crisis, thanks.
DaniBP, I saw the Sundrine but didn't try it on. Besides the fact that I am not much of a day-dress girl, especially in winter, it's a weight that has a too short-lived season here and I think it's too expensive for what it is (but I saw the dark helm yesterday and it has definitively a nice finish). Plus I generally don't like collar-less shirts. Sorry if I can't help!
Thank you for posting the picts of the blue sunnie :) I LOVE the yellow, I think I'll have to see this one in person.
