The party started at 4 to allow for couples with children to bring them. I really, really wanted to wear one of my newest purchases, the Tiered silk ruffled cami, which, incidentally, is a "hidden" item in the sale section. You have to type "Tiered silk" to find it, go figure.
When I tried this top in store last week I immediately fell in love with it. I felt very gracious in it, like a ballerina or a little bird. The color is black but only the wool panel in the back, grosgrain belt and straps are black. The silk charmeuse ruffles themselves are more of a midnight blue, which is a navy tinged of grey.
I haven't tried the dress but besides the fact that it is still FP I think that the wool all the way down in the back is going to be too form-hugging and maybe even sheer as it is kind of a lightweight fabric.
The top is very easy to wear IMO. It looks good alone with black pants/jeans (I am wearing last year toothpick in dark raisin rinse):

but is also super-cute peeking out from a cardigan or jacket:

In the end I didn't wear it because it was too dressy for the occasion (not to mention that it took us an hour and a half of public transportation to get there) and in fact the other guests were very casual. I wore my Talbots tee instead, with the Loft clear necklace from this spring. I always get a ton of compliments on this necklace and it's true that it's really pretty and unusual:

Our friends apartment is on the waterfront and they have an amazing view of the Hudson River and the NYC skyline on the other side. This the view from the walkway between the train station and their building:

I was carrying an Anthropologie bag with a present for our friends. I rarely visit Anthropology and I think that I have never made a purchase there (at least not clothes) but the last time that I have been there (in the summer) I saw in the home section these adorable Storybook romance dishtowels and I though that they would make a great little present for newlyweds (if for example you have not been invited to the wedding but you want to send something or, as in this case, you are invited to a housewarming). I was happy that they still had them in the store, they made the perfect present.
These are the last few hours of the 25% off card. I feel a urge to go outside and take advantage of it for the last time but I have spent way too much already and I am stuck home with a sick daughter AND a calf strain (that I have inflicted myself yesterday while playing frisbee in the park. Hopefully it will heal by itself but because of Columbus Day I couldn't even see the doctor today).
Have a nice week.
The ruffle top is adorable, I agree. I really wanted to try one on as well, but the smallest they had in the store I managed to get to last week was way too big for me. It looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI love the ruffle top and wanted to get one now that it's on sale. I love your styling ideas.
ReplyDeleteI tried the ruffle top and it made me bulky in the front. Maybe if it was steamed it would have been better. However, it looks fabulous on you. Is that a leather jacket you tried on with?
ReplyDeleteRose, I hope you will find one to try on the next time that you are in a store. This one just went on sale so there must be a few of them around.
ReplyDeletePatina, thank you and can't wait to see it on you.
jcrewphd, I was half expecting it to add weight as well (like last year tiered ruffle cami) but I found that it was quite flattering, if not slimming. The jacket is nor leather but silk (quite structured). It is a purchase from a few years ago (non jcrew) and I am determined to wear it a lot this year.
Lovely top-I have thought about it, but too many tiered tops in my closet here! I was going to also ask about that jacket you are wearing, it looks like the one i bought today (last day with percent off card at crew!) it's the "structured utility jacket" in black and i love it! got on sale plus the percent off.....:) also got the plaid/flannel tunic that you blogged about a little while ago. Love that Talbots top, what a great "classic" outfit, perfect choice for your day!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, the ruffles are very flattering! Paired with the crystal symphony necklace it is divine.
ReplyDeleteIt took all of my willpower not to go to JC today but I did it. I'm definitely glad the madness is over... at least until the next rollout.
Super pretty top, I think the colour makes it really wearable. Oh and amazing roof top view.
ReplyDeleteI really like this top. If it weren't final sale online, i would order it with the possibility of keeping it.
ReplyDeleteThe ruffle top is perfect on you! So flattering. Hope you get to wear it soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads-up on the Talbots tee. After seeing it on you, I found it in the orange colorway - love it :)
I have too many tiered tops already but it's a great pick. Love the second outfit where you paired it with the jacket. Very rock'n'rolla.
ReplyDeleteThat top is gorgeous. Great color.
ReplyDeleteI hope your calf-injury is all healed, and that your daughter is no longer sick!
The ruffle top looks exactly like a top I got last January at Anthropologie called the Free Flow tank. It came in two colors, a nude/tan color and Dk navy/black. I kept finding myself wanting to buy the JC top and then realizing again that essentially I already have one. That Jenna, she's so original.
ReplyDeleteI love the tiered top! I'm curious how it runs? I wear a 6--would you suggest a small or a medium?
ReplyDeletemrs.anketell, you are lucky to have found one of those popovers, they virtually disappeared from the stores here in NY.
ReplyDeleteAndrea, I wish we could breath a little bit but here comes another promo. It's exhausting!
Tabitha, I really see this top on you
Cleo, maybe with the 30% off you will bite?
mommydearest, I am happy that you found it and you like it. I must admit I wanted to get the orange one too with the coupon but didn't make it to a store...
Closet Crisis, thanks. I know you like that jacket ;-)
DaniBP, it's healing, thanks!
Julie, I am not familiar with Anthropologie so this one was pretty new to me. Good for you if you have already a similar one, I think it's a flattering style.
Dominique, it depends of your bra size. If you are busty I would go with a medium as the elastic band at the chest is pretty tight.
I saw many at the Columbus Circle store this past weekend if you want to try it on before buying. HTH
I was wondering forever how that top looks IRL. I have my answer now, it's fabulous. And did I spot a downfield jacket in a last pic? My fall staple.
