Kate Spade: The Perfect Tweed Suit?

I have a lot to blog about this week and sometimes when it happens I overthink it and I end up not blogging at all. I wrote two posts already that I didn't publish because I felt like I have other things MORE URGENT than a OOTD to share. Urgency of course is an overstatement, we talking about shopping after all (even if one of my posts wasn't about shopping at all).

So I tried to wrap up my mind and figured out that the most urgent thing that I want to share are pics of a few Kate Spade items that I tried at Bloomingdales recently. As you probably know there is a sample sale going on at Kate Spade where the prices have been drastically reduced. I didn't bite on the sample sale but there area few things that I am eyeing on the website, so while I was at Bloomingdales the other day I thought I would try some stuff on for sizing purposes, since I don't know the brand and sizing very well. Final sale is a pleague that is spreading to all the retailers and I don't want to be stuck with stuff that doesn't fit, especially expensive stuff. The items that I tried aren't on sale, except for one, but I think it helps with sizing on similar items.
My blog friend DaniBP has recently blogged about her search of the perfect, Chanel-esque tweed suit in this post and I left a comment to that post where I was saying that maybe such a thing is more of a myth, something from another era that looks instantly dated and old-ladish when you try to wear it today. So it is very ironic that the very next day I found a tweed suit at Kate Speade that in my opinion is the closest incarnation of that myth. Of course I had to try it on for our friend Dani and this post is a reply to her post. The suit is on the website but the pics don't do it any justice, I wouldn't have noticed it hadn't I seen it in the store. The jacket is called Tweed Darby jacket and the skirt is called Tweed Judi skirt, go figure. On the website they aren't shown together, probably because nobody does that anymore, but you can definitively wear them as a suit if it's your dream to have a tweed suit ;-). Here they are on me, both in a size 0 (the skirt felt a bit tight but I don't know if I would size up):
Details of the tweed and fringed hem in the skirt, where you can also see the patriotic colors:
The jacket is lined in beautiful red silk:
Now, personally I wouldn't wear them together but the genius idea is that they made a knit with a collar trim in the same tweed, that ties to the skirt. It is called Sidekick sweater, and it is made in a silk-cotton blend. Wearing a XS (it fits a bit small):
I would totally wear this and the cherry on the cake is that they also made a matching tweed bag, that I can't see on the website (they have another one in the same tweed but it isn't the same):
And with the jacket:
The bag is very high on my wishlist (I don't have any shoulder bag), I hope I can get it on sale. As you know I have a lot of navy so it would work well with what I already own. However, I really like it with the skirt so I am wishlisting the skirt too.

What do you think of this tweed suit? I am curious to hear from our friend Dani but I am also curious to know what would you get. Skirt and jacket? Bag and skirt? Sweater and skirt? Bag and jacket? Please share!

  1. Ema I'm DYING it's so fabulous. It's the perfect one and I dare not go look at the price.
How darling that they made a sweater and a handbag to match. Is this not the kind of thinking that comes from another era? If I had the means I'd buy all 4 items and just think of the many outfits you could make and they would all be stunning.
I think it also works so well because of the classic colors, navy and red will never ever go out of style and that type of tweed is appropriate for any age.
It seems the sizing is very similar to JCrew? Oh and the red lining too, what a detail, so perfect.
Going to the website now to have a look and cry over the price!
Thanks so much for posting this Ema. :)

  3. Now JC could learn a thing or two from KS. The quality and cut of these pieces look great!

I love them all, although (dare I say it, Ema?), is the bag a bit stewardess? Or is it that the print is a bit airline upholstery? Or maybe it is just the bag with the skirt and your helpful gesturing pose???

I think I'd better shut up now ;)

  8. I love the sweater with the skirt, although the contrast of navy and red in the tweed is a bit too much for me, I prefer tonal colors. I really like the sweater but I always think of the practicality in our climate, I can never even wear my cashmere t-shirts, as much as I like teh idea of them, it always seems either too hot or too cold to wear it. Is it just me?

  9. Ema- I'd get ALL and be that adorable dork in a head to toe tweed, hah ha... But that just me. I can see how all the pieces can be used in rotation: jacket with jeans, skirt with crisp white blouse, bag to add a pop of texture to a more casual outfit. Go for it!
