Orange Dress With Orange Shoes (The Joe Fresh Shirtdress and The Vince Camuto Kastern Shoes)

A few weeks ago I was strolling on Madison and something in the Joe Fresh window caught my attention (if you aren't familiar with Joe Fresh, it is a Canadian brand that sells cheap and well made, if a bit basic, clothes and is currently taking the US by storm with a few stores in NYC and NJ and more openings in other states on the way). I had just read a post over at Tabitha about finding the perfect shirtdress. If you have seen "Midnight in Paris" you have probably fallen under the charm of Rachel McAdams who was rocking a pletora of shirtdresses. I have the JCrew safari shirtdress from a few years ago and I like to wear it in the spring.
So when I saw that Joe Fresh was offering a silk shirtdress I went in. At first I was a little bit disappointed by the color choices, since I was hoping in a navy but instead of navy they had made it in black, that I don't need and I don't see myself wearing (it is washed silk so it has that faded look of the washed silk that I don't like for a shirtdress, it is a bit the opposite of crisp). The other colors were a bit odd: a teal, a strawberry red and an orange a la JCrew modern red/cerise. I can definitively do orange so I decided to try it in this color even if I have the Cecelia dress from last year which is very similar. Joe Fresh does silk very well, I have two of their silk shirt and they compare to the JCrew ones for a thid of the price (this spring they have beautiful colors in the silk shirts BTW and I saw the other day that the price has been lowered to $39).

This dress has an amazing fit (only the sleeves are a bit long, as it is always the case with Joe Fresh) and it is long enough not to look like you are wearing an oversized shirt, which is sometimes the case with shirtdresses (especially cotton striped ones). It is almost the exact replica of an Equipment shirtdress that I saw recently at Intermix, except for the chest pockets (they are regular pockets on the Joe Fresh, which I prefer to the military-style ones on the Equipment). The price was more attractive too, only $69 for a beautiful washed silk. This is the XS:
The hem is longer in the back, which I think is a nice touch:
A few days earlier I happened to be in Grand Central station where there is a Vince Camuto store. I don't know if you are familiar with this shoes brand but I think that they are stepping up their game and becoming quite a name in the shoes world, especially with the launch of their new "Signature" collection which is higher end (and definitively more pricey). While I was browsing the offerings in the store I noticed a pair of flat sandals in a beautiful orange patent with golden hardware, so when I bought the dress I decided to give them a try and I ordered a pair at Endless.com. I read on some other site that this shoe run big so I bought half a size down from my regular size. It was the right call since they fit perfectly length-wise. All in all they look much more expensive than they are and the color is almost exactly the same orange of the dress:
They have a golden zipper in the back (which you might or might not like) and I appreciate that the tip of the shoe is reinforced in metal, for durability:
Unfortunately they didn't work for me as the hardware on the strap hits the top of my ankle bone and I can't say that it will stretch since it's metal but if you are in the market for a pair of orange sandals and you want to give them a try the style is called Kastern and you can order them here with 20% off with code FRNDSFAM as they are part of Endless Family & Friends event currently going on (you have to add something else to the order to get the 20% off though, at there is a $100 minimum).

What do you think of the Joe Fresh shirtdress? Have you found the perfect shirtdress? Are you buying something orange this Spring?

  2. I love the shirtdress on you. I'm Canadian and proud that Joe Fresh offers such high quality items with affordable prices. I just got a pair of Joe Fresh colored-denim for $19 and they are very well-made for the price.
See my review at :http://mui28.blogspot.com/2012/03/colored-denim-at-joe-fresh.html. I also got a stripe dress.

  3. Love the shirt dress and the shoes! I actually just bought a beautiful pair of vince camuto sandals in an amazing rose gold colour - they are divine - despite the fact that in this climate, they will not see my bare feet for at least 2 months!!! you look amazing in orange!

  4. Those sandals are just too cute, sorry to hear that they didn't work for you.
I really like the shirt dress. I bought a white cotton one from F21 recently, but I would love to find one that is a bit dressier (and not a wrinkle magnet). I can't wait to visit NY again so that I can check out Joe Fresh.
