While we are at ATL, I wanted to share another find from two weeks ago. Well, it's not really a "find" in the sense that the price is higher than anything I saw at ATL so far, but luckily I had my $25 off card to spend so I got it for cheaper.
Actually, I did the silliest thing: I went in to return the V-neck ruffle dress that I have blogged about in one of my previous posts (I couldn't find a XS petite and decided that the XS regular that I had bought was too big on the chest) and also to see if I could spend my coupon (it was the last day) but after browsing a few racks I didn't find anything worth it (it had to be a full price item and I had to spend $50 minimum). So I returned the dress and the SA took out the coupon that was stapled on the ticket (I had "earned" the coupon with the purchase of the dress) and put it aside in a drawer.
Of course, just when I was about to take the door my eye was caught by this beautiful denim maxi-dress. There was only one left and it was a 0. I expexted it to be too big or long but when I tried it on I really, really liked it. I have a hard time finding maxi-dresses that fit me well, ie are not too long and I don't look pregnant in, and this one fitted the bill.
But I hesitated because the price tag read $79 and I had just said bye-bye to my $25 off coupon. So I decided that I would buy it only if the SA at the register gave me my coupon back (it wasn't won in advance because while the store manager is very nice but wasn't there, the SA are pretty harsh). While I was in the line I reharsed my little story (which was true but she could have said that because I had returned the dress I wasn't entitled to the coupon any longer; to which I could have responded that I would have waited to return it had I known. Still...). Anyway, the SA was nice enough not to give me a hard time on that, so I got it for $54, which is a much better price.
I like that it's in a dark denim wash, but not black. It has a double-tier on the bottom but it's not overwhelming:

It's in a very soft and lightweight denim, so it doesn't feel heavy to wear. In the pics I have styled it with the Jcrew pearls and glass necklace and espadrillas in a neutral tone, but it's going to look very nice with gold accessories to brighten up the dark color (I'm waiting on a pair of Tory Burch gold corks that should go perfectly with it):

I really like the fit on the bodice:

I have looked up the style number on the website but it says that this style "is not available online at this time" couldn't find it (I only found the Tiered Chambray skirt (style #233631) in the same fabric). Last Saturday when I picked up the "rose" tee, it was still full price.
Do you like/wear maxi-dresses? Do you like this one?
this dress looks GREAT on you! so glad the SA was nice enough to let you use your card.
ReplyDeletethe dress looks stunning on you!
ReplyDeletei dont own a maxi-dress (yet), but would love to.
i am very petite, so i dont know if i could pull it off.
ina
Stunning! Yes, I love maxi-dresses. But I haven't found one I've felt was work-appropriate, unfortunately. I guess they're more for weekends, casual, and going out...
ReplyDeleteAppGal, thank you! Yes, I was lucky (I'm not very good at making a scene).
ReplyDeleteina, it's true that most of the maxi-dresses out there aren't made for us petites. But there are exceptions. Still, if you are very petite it could be that this is not a look for you. My problem is that the majority of them are empire-waisted and make me feel/look pregnant. I lile this one because I don't get the "pregnant" vibe.
Post-fab Princess(I didn't recognized you at first), thank you! You're right, they are definitively not work-appropriate. But when I used to work in an office, I liked to have "weekend clothes" that I would only wear on weekends (just to make sure that my clothes wouldn't remind me of the office during the weekend).
Dress looks fantastic on you! My first reaction upon reading "denim maxi-dress" was to think about how heavy that could be - so thanks for the fabric weight info! It looks absolutely perfect. What a versatile piece.
ReplyDeleteLike ina, I too am very petite so I've stayed away from maxis. This one is really nice though, and it looks great on you. :)
ReplyDeleteThe dress fits you beautifully! Looks like it was made for you!
ReplyDeleteI agree - I thought denim would mean heavy.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic! And yay for being able to apply the $25!
I saw that instore but didn't try it on. I think it looks *fantastic* on you and I should try it when I get back. I really do love my black knit maxi from ATL. Thank you for showing it!
ReplyDeleteOooohhh, that dress looks fab! I love maxi-dresses in the summer. When it is hot outside I like things that are not too clingy. Looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteHeidiG and Gigi, yes it's well made and in a refined fabric, you don't feel it.
ReplyDeleteStylestance, kathy and kris, thanks!
Sparrow, thank you. I bought mine more or less when you bought yours.
Just recently started following your blog, and really enjoy it, and the photos as well! I loved your natural colored espadrilles...I've been looking for something casual with height like that...where did you get them?
ReplyDeleteluv fashion, thanks and welcome to the blog. Those are from Stubbs and Wooton, they have a store on Lexington Av. @ 73d but I see that they also have a website http://stubbsandwootton.com.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite expensive though (now even more than when I bought them 3 years ago). Christian Laboutin had a very similar style last year, and there are a couple selling for cheap on ebay (for exemple this one http://cgi.ebay.com/EUC-CHRISTIAN-LOUBOUTIN-ESPADRILLE-CREAM-EXCELLENT-41_W0QQitemZ260442098938QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Women_s_Shoes?hash=item3ca38f0cfa&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1205%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50, maybe you're lucky and it's your number). I can vouche for them, they are very cure and classy.
Otherwise Jcrew had the Rafina (also very similar), but I think that the more "neutral" color offered was black (again, you can look for them on ebay).
Hope it helps!
