A Great Find: the ATL Rose Chiffon Tee

You know that I normally don't blog on weekends but I couldn't wait until tomorrow to share my latest find with you.
I have great news for those who are still eagerly looking for the rose chiffon tee on ebay or the JCA exchange. Look no longer: ATL has come up with its own version of the tee and it's almost as good as the real thing. And you won't spend a crazy $130 only to find out that you don't really like it; you will spend $34.50 maximum (less if you have a coupon) and you will have 60 days to return it (they are going to change their return policy as of July 5th). Here it is:

I saw it yesterday on the table of the new arrivals and immediately took it to the fitting room. Luckely I had my camera with me. I've looked it up on the ATL website and didn't find it.
It comes also in black and the black one is nicer than the Jcrew one IMO:

OK, the flower is a little bit less abstract than the rose of the Jcrew tee (in fact I'm not sure that it's a rose), but the overall effect is the same. The cotton is a lightweight cotton like the one of the boyfriend tees, which makes it more of a summer tee. It has a twisted neckline fabric like the Jcrew Twisted slub jersey V-neck tee, which you can like or not (personally it's the only thing in this tee that I don't like that much):

.

The natural color is darker than the Jcrew one (as usual the lighting in the fitting rooms is just horrible but I will post other pics soon). I tried an XS in regular sizes and it fitted me perfectly, I'm not sure if this comes in petite:

I bought the natural one because I'm planning to wear it under a black cardigan but if you like black tees, it is really cute in black (I know, I'm repeating myself). I don't own the Jcrew one and I don't want to pay ebay prices for it (I didn't noticed it when it came out in stores, before it became the IT tee, so I didn't get it) so this one makes the deal for me.
I'm sure that this one is going to sell out as soon as word of this tee comes out in the blogosphere (I'm uninfluential of course but if for exemple one Alexis writes a post about this tee it's going to disappear from the stores in matter of days).

What do you think? Knockoff or great surrogate of the real thing? Do you have the "original" Jcrew one?

Coming up, another ATL great find ...

  3. I bought the natural colored tee this weekend, too!! I love it---great fit and texture and like you, planning on wearing it under a black cardi in the fall!! Exciting deal!! I may have to get the black one, too, though....

  4. I love your blog! I wanted to share an idea on this shirt.

There is a site called Country Couture that teaches you how to make this yourself for the crafty gals out there.
I am going to buy the ATL ones but also make some neutral tan and grey ones.

I am going to use Targets ringspun T as my shirt then go from there.

  5. I owned the JCrew ones and returned them both. Lots of hype for a not so great tee IMO. I like this one better actually. I am going to try the DIY one. Thanks for the post. I don't mind spending $ for nice blazers, jeans, etc. but for tees....NO WAY! Silly IMO.

  9. i really like this tee, esp. for the price. i didn't get an "original" jcrew one, but wish i did. I actually saw one at my nearest b&m when they first came out. it wasn't my size but i could have made it work. i am kicking myself now!

  10. I did see it online and am way curious to see in store, but not sure if I can fit it in between trips, since I'm home less than 48 hours and have about 10 loads of laundry to do, my last 2 fillings to get replaced, and M's 9-year check up. Maybe I should just go ahead an order it, but I can't decide which color.

Love love love the tee on you. How sheer was the natural? TIA

  11. Heidi: I bought the natural today and its not that sheer- I don't think it will require a cami under but I'll let you know when I wear it tomorrow. HTH!

  12. Good morning ladies! It looks like this tee is already very popular, I'm glad that I saw it on Saturday and grabbed one while they had my size in my local store.

Kathy, thank you. I did like the black!

AnneG, I should subscribe to the ATL emails now that I'm a fan of the brand. I could have simply missed this one.

Mrs.anketell, I did try it yesterday night under the black cardi that I bought it for and the effect is LOVELY. My cardi has a chiffon trim that goes wonderfully well with the chiffon of the tee. Great buy! But I would keep only one.

TM, thank you! And thank you for posting the link. I'm the most incapacitated gal ever when it comes to do something with my hands. I tried a few times but it simply not for me. But I'm sure that the other readers can craft wonderful things...

Anon, I have to say that I "only" noticed the Jcrew rose chiffon tee when it was already sold out and on ebay, just because I thought that it would look great under my cardi. When it came out I was much more excited by the silk bow applique and "candy" ones.

Cate, what a coincidence! And congratulations!

AppGal, try this one, same effect than the Jcrew one.

Heidi, as Cate said, it's not sheer (I even tried it without a bra and you couldn't see anything) but I would see you more in the black one (if you like black tees). The one thing to know about the natural color is that it tends towards a khaki, it's not creamy as the natural in the Jcrew painter tees. If you plan to wear it alone in the summer I would go with the black one.

  15. I love this and you're so right, it would look great under a black cardigan. I'm going to look for this next time I can get in the store! Great find!

  17. My little sis just went ATL and picked up one of these for me! She said our store just got the shipment of them yesterday and there was only one XS left! yea!

  18. Hi Ema,

I picked up this shirt today in the natural. I walked in and out of the store in about 3 minutes flat, knowing that I didn't want to look around. I noticed that the SA was wearing the shirt in black. Anyway, I think the shirt is more "sweet" than its jcrew counterpart, and appreciate it for this reason. I wear it with the magnolia leaf charm necklace and it works well.

  19. Lindsey B, yay (I wish I had someone who could go on shopping missions for me)!

Susan, thanks for the suggestion re. the magnolia necklace (I don't have it but I have something similar). It's true that it's sweeter than the Jcrew one.

  20. Thank you for your fun blog. I read it all the time and appreciate all your tips and advice on styles and sizing. I'm and American living overseas so seeing things on a live person really helps me to know what to order from J. crew. I love this tee from ATL! I bought one too. I saw this today and thought of your lovebird tee shirt and thought you might like it

  21. christen, that's so sweet. Actually the Summer Doves tee really reminds me of my Lovebird. Expensive though (I don't know this brand but I guess that it's because of the organic cotton), maybe when it goes on sale?

  22. Hi Ema! I actually bought both the black and ivory last week online. I finally received them yesterday and wore my ivory one today. I love them both and the price was fantastic. :)

  23. Hi FFM, I saw your post yesterday morning (I didn't have time to comment) and wondered when you had bought yours. I only got the ivory one, I think I'm living a black-out moment. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.
