I wasn't impressed with the new merchandise but I have to say that I rarely am (I typically need some days to digest the new arrivals). I was hoping for some color but there were a lot of neutrals again. The only noticeable change in this mini-collection is a shift towards navy (solid and prints).
There were a couple of new blouses that I didn't particularly like (one a little bit in the paesant style and another one very similar to the twisted cap-sleeve top but with an added necklace in the same fabric - or was that a belt?)
I picked up the pieces that I liked the best to show here but I wasn't convinced that I was going to buy any of them.
First is this silk tank, that retails for $98 (tried a 0). If 'm not wrong it was featured in the June preview slide show that Alexis uploaded on the JCA blog some time ago. It's nice, but I'm not sure why they decided to put it into production for the summer because it would have made a nice pre-fall piece (the brown is a little bit darker IRL than in the pics if I remember well). Unless it is a pre-fall piece, but I'm not sure that people are going to buy it before August when we start to think about our fall wardrobe. Anyway, this is not a fitted top and doesn't have a zip:

Another item that was featured in the same slide show is the mini pictured below. Seriously cute. It has 2 pockets cut on the front and I loved the contrast between the two shades of blue (the one in the background is a little bit darker then how it shows in the pics. I think that it is what is called "prussian blue"). The lenght is just right (not too short) and it's well priced ($65). I almost bought it, but then I realized that I rarely wear minis in my real life (although I really like to wear minis in the fitting room lol). I tried a 0 (the good thing of checking out the new arrivals early is that they have all the sizes):

By the way, as a top I'm wearing the Podna Brass Band tee. They had just received it and I wanted to see what all the fuzz was about (as expected, I didn't like it but if you're looking for this tee they have it).
Then I tried this cardi, which retails for $88. It's cuter in IRL than in the pics because my camera tends to accentuate the white component. This print comes also in shorts and in peep-toe heels. Actually I'm not totally sure that it's part of the newest arrivals but I hadn't noticed it before. I'm trying a S:

And now the item that I really liked. A new version of the cotton perfect shirt in a light blue (the color code is CNA, can't figure out what it means. Help Gigi!) Perfect fit, perfect color, perfect fabric for the summer (very lightweight cotton with a satiny finish). If you have been disappointed by the seldvege chambray shirt, you must try this one. It's not a jean shirt but a nice replacement of jeans for the summer.

I bought this (the price is $78 and it was flying off the shelves). I don't think I'm going to change my mind as it felt really great, I almost wanted to wear it out of the store!
The new jewelry is also great but I'm probably going to write a different post about it (there was a rectangular-crystals necklace that I'm already regretting not buying and I might go back tomorrow).
What do you think? Do you like any of these new arrivals? Have you seen them in person?
I love that brown/blue silk top! Not sure I want to buy silk---wish it was a cotton blend. But love the colors. And love the last shirt you tried on--the light colored denim one!! thanks for sharing and posting, very exciting!!
ReplyDeleteThe cardi is just darling...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing...I am on a ban right now...so I am living through all you ladies!
thanks for sharing the new arrivals! I won't be able to get to a store for a while. I want that skirt!! :)
ReplyDeleteI bought the perfect shirt as well and the receipt says it's chambray. I also love the necklace that you mentioned! :)
ReplyDeleteCNA = Classic Navy
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of the designs on the clothes right now. And not so sure about the colors either. Not very summery. Maybe they're prepping us for fall, like you said. It will help me save some money though. Exactly what I need to be doing right now!
ReplyDeleteI also checked out the new arrivals today but didn't see much that I liked either. I usually end up liking the online/catalog items only which is a big bummer - hello shipping fees! I'm like you, they had things that were cute but nothing I had to have.
ReplyDeleteReally like the top you got, super cute on you.
Thanks for sharing these finds w/ us! I hope to check 'em out soon too! :)
ReplyDeletehi ema,i can see you like navy!!
ReplyDeletethe shirt looks so nice.
i have not seen any of the new arrivals, so i am enjoying them through your pictures.
ina
Thank you for sharing! I was really curious what the new arrivals were like. I love that last shirt on you and look forward to seeing what you pair it with.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the pics! I was there yesterday but did not see all of these pieces. Shirt looks great on you. Love love love the skirt.
ReplyDeleteMy fave piece I tried on yesterday was a navy & white striped boatneck 3/4 sleeve knit top, but I decided to pass.
Love the first and last top ... great pics!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the previews. Here's the link to the color coding post. http://gigisgoneshopping.blogspot.com/2009/05/j-crew-color-abbreviations-key.html (Anon is correct that CNA is classic navy since I have a tag with that, too.)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the new jewelry post.
loved the last shirt! Mostly cuz it's so comfy. The SA said the item is a presale item, so it'll be available online later on.
ReplyDeleteThank you, ladies, it's a pleasure for me to try the new arrivals and show you the IRL pics (although I really hope that none of the Madison Avenue Collection SA ever read this blog. I don't want to became a celebrity in the neighborhood).
ReplyDeleteMath teacher, you're right I've checked the ticket and it says the same thing. Now I'm curious to know what the definition of chambray is because I wouldn't have thought of this as chambray (neither as classic navy to be honest)...
Summerilla, I'm like you, I always like the catalog ony merchandise better. Bummer!
Ina, yes I like navy and it looks like Jcrew is liking it too:-).
Stephanie, I think this will look great with white capris but I also like it with dark jeans like in the fitting room pics. It could also be worn in a more formal setting, it's totally appropriate for work under a suit.
I'm not worries about the versatility and wearability of this one.
HeidiG, I saw the striped boatneck top that you emntion but it looked plain to me. Maybe it's because I've bought a fabulous striped white and blue dress last week (pics soon, I can't wait to wear it but it poured all the week) and I think I'm done in the "maritime" look.
Birdie butter, thank you, I agree that the pics came out nice, the fitting room was very bright (and fitted the stroller). I'm ging to request the same the next time ;-).
JNJ, thanks for the link, I forgot to check it. The jewelry post is delayed because I hadn't the time to go back yet. But stay tuned!
Anon, you mean the SA on the phone?
is that hay on the fitting room floor?
ReplyDeleteNo, it wasn't the SA on the phone. It was just the SA in the store. They said they only got a few because it was a presale item. According to her, some items are sold in stores first. HTH!
ReplyDeleteTHe top looks really nice on you! :)
I really like the silk top ($98) you tried on. I wonder if its available in other stores. Nobody seems to report about this top other than you. I hope I can find it online in the next rollout. I enjoyed reading your blog. Thank you so much for taking these pictures for us.
ReplyDeleteNancyK, I haven't seen that top in any other store so far but the Madison Avenue Collection store often receives merchandise that will become available in other stores later.
ReplyDeleteMore pics coming soon, stay tuned.
How is the sizing on the idigo floral print top/tank? TIA!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMMM, the top is TTS but roomy in the chest area (the style is not fitted). I don't remember noticing that it was tight around the underarms (I know what you mean). I would order your regular size or a size dow but don't size up.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the sizing info, Ema! That really helps! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Father's Day weekend!
