We stopped at the Gap first to check out the dresses. If you have missed it, Gap is having a "25% off all dresses" promo only this weekend (for women, babies and kids).
Surprisingly, they didn't have many styles. I gave a try to the Empire waist tank dress (#655030):

Sorry, as you can see I was lazy and I've tried it with my jeans and wellies but you get the idea. This dress retails for $39.50 in store but it's currently 29.50 on the website and comes in this color, black, bright pink, purple, yellow and white. I didn't like it on me (maybe is the color but the black and white were sold out) but it's worth checking it out if you're looking for an easy dress for the summer. It felt very comfortable and it's a great combination of fabrics: the top is in a knit cotton and the skirt is in woven cotton, which makes it a little bit different from the other dresses.
Then, we went to ATL. I "discovered" ATL not more than a month ago when I went into one of their stores for the first time to look for their cotton 3/4 sleeves Jackie-esque cardigan. I was really surprised with their clothes and I have now added it to my shopping path. The prices are good (today I found that their prices were better than at the Gap) and they have great basics.
Anyway, I came back for a tank that I had already tried on when I bought the cardi. I was waiting for it to go on sale but the white was sold out in my size so today I decided to buy it FP ($24.50). The SA insisted that I try "some color":

But I prefer a neutral color and got the grey:

This tank screams "summer" to me. I can't wait to wear it with a pair of white linen pants. In the same spirit, it looks nice with the ATL knit skirt (reg. 36.50, on sale for 24.50):

When I was in line at the register, my eye got caught by this dress:

It's called the "Sleevless dress with ruffles V-neck" if you can call this a name (style #233795). It cames in black, brown and lilac rose, which is similar to the Jcrew flamingo pink. The store only carried the black and the pink and I tried bot the black and the pink in XS:

I got the pink one. The lightning was horrible in the fitting room and it's a total different color IRL:

It's a really cute dress and it retails for only $39.50. The fabric is a nice stretch jersey (93% cotton and 7% spandex). This was the first time that I tried an ATL dress and I think I'm a petite but this particular one was sold out in petite so I got the regular size. I got it anyway but I might go and look for a petite in another store. The best part is that they are giving away a $25 card with every $50 spent (on full-priced items) through Sunday. So now you know what to do this weekend lol.
Have a nice weekend everyone!
I love that ATL tank! I think I'm going to have to buy it - it's so gorgeous and summery! The dress is amazing too. I have never shopped at an ATL and now I think I need to!
ReplyDeleteOh and my tunic came in the mail today! Thank you so much, I absolutely love it! Thanks for the advice on NYC restaurants too - I will definitely be checking them out!
love the ATL tank AND dress!! Adorable finds!! thanks for trying them on and posting:)
ReplyDeleteThe ATL dress is the one that Kate Gosselin is wearing in all the sickening, non stop, coverage lately LOL.
ReplyDeleteShe gets ATL clothes free so you will often see her out and about in them or even on the cover of magazines in them.
Anyways love the ATL dress on you.
I may get the brown and pink myself.
Will you post back if you like the petite fit better?
:D
Love your blog!!!!
I just have to say that my favorite part of your blog is how you describe everyday life with your daughter! My kids are teenagers now but I remember the days of going to the mall with them in the stroller because it was a great way to kill time and they loved getting out of the house! The only hard part was making sure they stayed happy while I tried on stuff. My son especially liked to stand up backwards in the stroller when I wasn't looking. Not so good. (Tomorrow I am taking him for his subject SAT test for Chemistry. The time goes by fast, so watch out!!)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I also think you are a FABULOUS writer, much better than a lot of native English speakers I know. I find your expressions utterly charming. Please continue this blog. You are a gal after my own heart!!!
I really like the ATL tank and dress on you! :)
ReplyDeleteYou daughter is so adorable in the pictures! It looks like she does pretty well in the dressing rooms! Any mom knows how *those* experiences can go!?!?! :-O
LOVE your blog!
hi ema,
ReplyDeletei have a one year old girl and i dread those days too. even harder is winter when it snows or is freezing cold for days and weeks.the thought already depresses me.
that dress looks georgious on you!
i agree with laurenmarie10 you are a good writer and i enjoy your daily "adventures" too.
do you miss italy? what do you miss the most?
ina
Summerilla, the tank is really worth it. The white one is the best IMO (the embroidery is a little bit lost on the grey).
ReplyDeleteMrs.anketell, thank you, I love to try stuff on and now that I take pics and post is even more fun. It's like I have a "bigger goal" than just trying stuff to buy.
TM, I must have been living in a cave or something because I didn't notice that dress on Kate Gosselin (I had a free subscription to US weekly and they just stopped sending it when the Jhon "affair" story came out). Not my favorite reality TV star ...
I will post back if I find a petite (will look for it today).
laurenmarie10 (and Ina), you can't imagine how much I appreciate your compliments on my writing. Being a non-native speaking I live with a constant complex of inferiority re. the language because, let's be honest, I will never speak like an american and I still can't believe that I'm daring writing this blog in English. So, thank you, thank you, thank you for motivating me with your comments in keeping up with the blog.
MMM, yes she does pretty well in the stores. At the Gap I let her run around and she would "help" me with the clothes. But by the time we got to ATL she was bored and she was begging me to go (in the end she falled asleep).
Ina, I have been living in France for 8 years before moving here but I missed Italy more when I was in Paris than now that I am in NY. I feel at home here, but of course is not easy because I miss my family.
laurenmarie10 - *lol* at your son standing backwards in the stroller
ReplyDeleteEma - I love the GAP dress. And your ATL picks are great! Don't they have the worst lighting? Eek.
Love the ATL dress & tanks. Looks like a successful outing!! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is fab on you!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you just discovered ATL! Welcome :) I love ATL, they have petites (which is like a requirement for me) plus they have fabulously cute clothes for good prices! I have a real love affair with their dresses :) I'm sure you will come to find many good pieces for your wardrobe from them.
ReplyDeleteP.S. your little one is darling!
Gingersnap, I know I just can't believe myself that I never shopped there before!
ReplyDeleteI Just wanted to give you a quick update as I went to ATL again today (trying to spend the $25 coupon).
The dress is now in promo for $29.50 (they didn't give me a price adjustment because it's a promo and technically is not on sale - silly). I have tried the only S Petite that they had in the brown color but it was too big in the chest. I think I really am a XS Petitein ATL dresses and if I can't find one I will return mine (or at least get it for cheaper!). While I wasthere I found a supecute V-neck top with a ruffle along the middle that I can't wait to wear and show you ladies!
