Let's start from the beginning. I meant to write this post before leaving for our beach break but I didn't get to it. I was kind of proud of myself because I had put together a few fall outfits around the silk indigo floral top that may be considered "savvy" and "regression-correct" as they consist exclusively of FS items that I snagged for a ridicolous price and old staples that I have in my closet. So I could have bragged about holding off new purchases and give lessons about mixing old and new and buying only one piece that you can incorporate in your wardrobe but, helas, I totally caved in yesterday when I walked into the Collection store for a return (post and pics to come).
So no lessons, just the outfits (that I'm still proud about). You surely remember the Silk Indigo Floral Top. I missed it when it went on sale on the website but I was lucky enough to found one in my size at the Madison Collection store during the exta 20% FS promo (the price came around $55, which for this top is totally worth it IMO). I loved this top since I first tried it on but I always thought that it belonged to fall because of the beautiful (but not summery) colors.
At the same time I also bought on the website a Portland cardigan in navy and the classic leather belt in glazed hazelnut (that was on sale at that time but is misteriously back to FP).
I had completely missed the Portland last winter (I have two Michelles) and when I realized that I had not a single wool navy cardigan in my closed (the easiest color to go with the indigo floral top) I stalked the website for some popbacks and the Portland, with its $19.99 FS price fitted the bill. I was a little bit nervous that I wouldn't like it (it's one of the few items that I ever bought without seeing it IRL first) but it's a total winner. In case you don't own one, the yarn is very different from the yarn of the Michelle (it's microribbed) and I would say that it's a more elegant cardigan than the Michelle.
So here is the first outfit: silk indigo floral top, Portland cardi, vintage matchstick cords in acorn:

Another cardigan that I thought I would pair with this top is the Georgia cardi in bistro orange, that I also bought on FS:

However, I came to realize that this color isn't very flattering on me and, besides, it's going to be too lightweight for fall, so I put it up for sale on the JCA (if you are interested let me know, it's a size XS).
The next outfit features a Theory jacket that I had for some years now but didn't get around to wear much. It's a beautiful jacket thought and I think that it's perfect with the top, the same cords and the leather belt (plus my Glenbrae boots that I hadn't the courage to slip on due to the heat):

The last outfit, with the Mica mini, is more of an evening outfit. Here it's with the Portland cardi open:

and here it's belted:

The Mica mini is not the ideal skirt for the belted look because the fabric is doubled at the waistband, but I don't have a denim pencil skirt and I wanted to show you the effect with the belt that the monotony of the navy. Anyway, I love the otfit (you know that I love my Mica mini).
You might have noticed that I'm barefoot in the last pics, but I couldn't think of a pair of shoes for this outfit. But I finally ordered a pair of Juliet in driftwood with the last 20% and free shipping promo (in fact they should be here today). So you can go ahead and try to picture it with the Juliet (if I can I will update this post with a pic).
What's the summer collection item that will bring you into fall? Which of these pairings do you like the best?
Yay!! I have most of these items so I will definitely be *copying* these looks! :) You look great in all of them!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy how the Portland cardigan & the Michelle are a lot a like yet so different! I have a few of each and I tend to like the weight and feel of the Portland a bit more too!
Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to see what you purchased at the Collection store yesterday! :-D
That silk indigo top is gorgeous on you. I am now intrigued by the Portland, it looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteI love your outfits, putting different pieces together can sometimes be a challenge for me, so your tips are much appreciated.
Looking forward to reading about your Collection Store trip:)
Love the top on you - the colors are so fantastic! My fave look is the first, but I love them all. Enjoy it!! Great piece for the fall when it's hot out, but you are in the fall mood, you know?
ReplyDeletehi ema, navy is a great color on you. my favorite outfit is one with the mica mini.
ReplyDeletei startet my fall shopping too and got a few things(co-ed mini, cypress jackie).
cant wait to see your pictures.
BTW i got the libretto. i like it alot. but it is so sparkly. i am trying to make it more casual by wearing it with tees and tanks.
Very cute! I love the way you styled it in the first picture and the last picture!
ReplyDeleteLove the different ways you styled this...I wouldn't have thought that blouse could be so versatile!
ReplyDeleteI love the silk indigo top, I think we both scored it around the same time!! Yay for both of us being able to get a hold of one for an amazing price. Love the looks, I agree this top screams Fall to me so I've been holding off until the weather is a little colder to wear it.
ReplyDeleteGreat mixing & matching. I can totally see the Juliets in with those looks. Nice! :-0
ReplyDeleteHi, I am interested in the Georgia cardi. Could you please tell me the chest measurment and length of it? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMMM, thank you and I'm happy that you like these looks.
ReplyDeleteYes, the Portland and the Michelle looked very similar on the website and I think that I have never seen the Portland in the stores but they are much different! I'm really happy that I have scored one in my favorite color!
DaniBP, thank you, much appreciated!
HeidiG, yes, this is a great piece for early fall. As I said at the time when I first tried it on, I don't understand how this managed to be part of the summer rollout.
ina, I think that the outfit with the Mica mini is my favorite too but knowing myself I'm sure that I'm going to wear it with the cords much more.
pixelant, thank you (and welcome!)
Michaela, thank you!
Summerilla, yes I thought the same thing when I saw it on you. We'll be fighting over the same items when you are in NY, as we are the same size and we love the same things...
Gigi, thank you! Hard to believe they "lost" my Juliet and sent me a ruffle cotton dress (in a size 6) instead. This is the second time in the last month!!! Well, I called them and they have sent another pair, hope that this time they will make it here... Stay tuned!
ha, could you shhot me an email at crazyaboutjcrew@gmail.com? Thanks!
Great outfits! I almost caved on the top during the 20% off, but it still wasn't cheap enough for me. :)I have gotten a lot of wear out of the portland cardis I bought on FS. Super buy for $20!
ReplyDeleteEma, I love the way you put the silk floral top with various outfits. Now I wish I bought it during FS. Did you size down on this top? I'm not sure whether I should get my regular size or to size down. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMCC, thank you. Yes, the Portland cardi was a really great buy!
ReplyDeletejcmama, I bought my regular size but I couldn't have sized down anyway as I'm a 0. This top isn't intended to be fitted but it doesn't appear to be vanity sized (armholes are just fine). Hope that it helps!
Thanks Ema! Now they have my size but I don't know if I can pull the trigger for $69.99 + tax...
ReplyDeleteI love the belted look with the Portland Cardi and the silk indigo top. If you don't have a good skirt to wear with it, perhaps you could try it with the vintage cords?
