That is to say that I hadn't planned to shop at all but I saw three items that were at the top of my wishlist so I couldn't resist and tried them on. I grabbed another few new arrivals on my way to the fitting room just to try on and I would have tried more but I couldn't (more on this later). So I'm going to warn you that you won't see much this time.
Before showing you what I purchased, let's talk about what I DIDN'T like. At all. I have considered "Hot Mess Alert: the Silk Tiered Cami" as a title for this post but I was afraid of Jcrew would sue me for loss of business and I decided against. Just kidding, Jcrew doesn't read this stuff, right?
Seriously, I never found that this top was particularly appealing but I know that it was on the wishlist of many JCAs, so I gave it a try.
This is the pic posted on the website:

And here is on me. I'm trying a 0 in the antique stone color (not the most flattering color, granted, but it was available in my size on the racks and I tend not to bother the SAs with looking for a size if I know that it's just for "trying on". Yes, I'm a nice customer):

You understand now why the model's arm is in that weird position, she's trying nonchalantly to the flatten the tiers down so it won't look like this:

Side view (I apologize for the blur):

I don't refuse the possibility that there is some woman in the creworld (did I just write that? Sorry Gigi but it's contagious!) that can pull this top off, but I'm almost sure that in the other 99% of cases this is going to look bad. And that this is going to add a few pounds to your figure. If I had to give only one advice on the new arrivals I would say "Please, don't buy this top".
Next, I have tried the new Slub cotton embroidered flowers tee. I felt the flowers a little bit overwhelming, more like dark spots/clouds than flowers (I'm trying an XS, as always with slub cotton I recommend to size down). Also it was priced at $42.50, which is a little bit steep for a tee with no embellishment:

You have probably recognized in the pic the Wool herringbone bucket hat in black (they also had the copper and butterscotch). This one is supercute, I will buy at some point but I couldn't make up my mind on the color. I comes in two sizes S/M and M/L and I tried the S/M, but it was a little bit snug.
Now what I bought. If you have read my previous post you know about the "two dogs" tee. I can't tell you how excited I was when I saw that they had this tee because this was the ONLY thing that I was really lusting over after browsing all the Previews and Fallbooks on the JCA blog. And I was sure that it would come out right when I was in Europe and I would miss it. But there it was, the "Ringspun doggies tee" as says the receipt (it's priced at$29.50 and it's retail-only for the time being).

The color is the classic Jcrew champagne and the fabric is ringspun cotton. However, it is thinner than the ringspun of the Candy tees IMO and a little bit sheer. I'm trying an XS in the pics (which I bought) but if you are concerned by sheerness you should probably size one up.
The skirt that I'm wearing in all the pics is the Shirred wool skirt, another item that I couldn't wait to see IRL. This skirt looked so cute in the catalog and it didn't disappoint me. I love that it has pockets and that it looks good with tees, so you can dress it up or down (it comes in 5 colors but I never considered any other color than black). It reminds me a little bit of the Monterey, it has the same swingy feeling (tried a 0 and it was perfect):

Then I threw on the Dream cadet funnelneck sweater in pebble. This one technically isn't a new arrival but it was the first time that I could see it IRL. I almost pulled the trigger on this one on the website but I was worried about the lenght (some bloggers reported that it is a little bit long). Actually is not longer than I expected it to be (it hits at the lower hip but it's normal for this kind of sweaters):

This is typically the kind of sweater that I live in in the winter (I have last year Corrine and I can't tell how many times I have worn it, so this is going to be a welcome alternative).
I felt so good in this outfit that I would have walked out in it (but it was one of the most humid days of summer), and I ended up buying everything (tee + skirt + sweater).
You might have noticed my daughter in the background of all these pics. You're maybe wondering what she was doing: well, she was literally trying to escape from the fitting room. After she opened the door while I was taking a pic (nobody saw me) I had to lock it. Once I had finished with these clothes and I let her outside she went really WILD, she would run from one store end to another, pick as many shoes from the display as she could, "tried on" expensive jewelry and she even slammed the door of another fitting room where a lady with a puzzled look was trying some clothes (she shut the door with the lady INSIDE). The SAs were beyond nice with us but I knew that I couldn't subject her to another round of try-ons.
So I was really bummed but I had to leave all the other new arrivals for another time. I went back today for another return (long story) but I haven't even tried to drag her into the fitting room. I don't think that this weekend I will have any time for that, so this will be probably it.
I saw many of the other new arrivals though (in particular the Blushed tweed collier jacket, which was already selling out and is BEAUTIFUL, the new pencil skirts and the MO tweed one) and I can answer questions if you have any.
Have a nice Jcrew weekend!
Thank you for taking the time to post pictures of the tiered cami. I've been admiring it in the catalog and was wondering how it fit in real life.
ReplyDeleteWell, i see what you are saying about the 3-tier tank, but you look pretty cute in it. I think that shirt is build for your size. I most enjoy your little one in the background of the photos!! So cute...!!
ReplyDeleteYour reviews are so helpful thanks for taking the time. Did you have to size up on the Dream cardigan?
ReplyDeleteO/T: I have to tell you your review on the Matchstick cords really helped me I was able to order a pair that fit me perfectly based on your wonderful review. Thanks again.
awh the doggy t is so cute! I have not seen that!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info...and as a mom of a 2-year old myself, I am beyond amazed that you managed at all with her. :)
ReplyDeleteMy sweet boy is so ferocious that I wait till hubby gets home or I drag people with me to hang out so I don't have to worry about him ravaging the store.
I love that the SAs were so sweet to you...that is AWESOME.
I agree the tiered tank looks fabu on you...but it is your comfort level that matters!
I was also coveting that tiered tank because they had it styled so deceptively in the photos (under a belted cami or blazer where you just see part of it, fine, but not for 88$). And it looks good on you, but alone would make a hippy person like me look larger than life! I may get that sweater and skirt, also.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the important research.
HA! I know what that's like, bringing a two year old with you shopping!! the only way I can do it, is to bring LOTS of snacks and drinks, so i can get in and out of the dressing room and the store!! too funny. I don't love that tiered silk top.......would have been better if it was cotton. And the doggy tee is adorable!! Love that whole outfit you had one!! Great purchases, and can't wait to read your next post:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these w/ us again! I always enjoy seeing your IRL photos! Your daughter is pretty darn cute there in the background! ;) But as a mother of 2, I totally feel your *pain*! :-O
ReplyDeleteI tried on the silk tiered cami a few days ago and I just couldn't get past the wrinkles! It probably just needed a good steaming but still...! It really does look good on you though!
I also picked-up the 'doggie tee' and the cadet funnelneck cardi- I actually ordered the heather dusk/grey one from the red phone though! I just felt like it would be a better color for me!?! :) I may have to consider that skirt now too- that's a fabulous outfit!!
Btw, casual-crew: The funnelneck cardi fits tts! I tried on the same size I usually purchase in j.crew's cardis and it fit perfectly! HTH!?! :) I LOVE it- so soft & comy!!
Enjoy your weekend! :-D
I got cadet funnelneck cardi too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to love tiered tank - it's no for me...
However I do like it on you.
how thick is the funnelneck cardigan? Is it more of a sweater or a lighter cardigan?
ReplyDeletethanks!
Thanks for the pics! I actually really liked the tiered cami on you--I'm eager to try it on myself!
ReplyDeletethanks for all the pictures!
ReplyDeletehow did the flower tee fit, TTS? what are the colors of the flower?(black or charcoal)
do you think its overwhelming for a petite person? TIA
the cami looks great on you and the doggie-tee outfit is adorable.
Thanks for all the fantastic pics & info. I adore that skirt - wonder if it would be too short on me. Love love love the 2 dog tee and the floral tee - can't wait to try them on. Love the cadet funnelneck, too. Great finds!! Sorry the tiered ruffle tank didn't work - interesting comment about the model's pose. I do still want to try it on, but will keep the warnings in mind. I do think it's adorable on you, but understand that it just may not do it for you. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the doggie tee, too, and purchased it last weekend! I did size up to a Small. I do love it with that skirt and the sweater! I'll have to go back and look for that skirt.
ReplyDeleteI actually think the tiered cami is adorable on you, especially with those toothpick cords!
ReplyDeleteooh now im on the fence about that tiered cami and flower tee. i want both but i guess i'll really have to try them on before i buy. thanks for the reviews, they helped! i love the cadet cardi too!
ReplyDeleteI love the doggie tee - my b&m didn't have it yesterday. :( I think the tiered cami looks good on you. I tried it on and liked it on me as well. I am waiting it from my pre-order.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your wonderful comments ladies and I'm sorry for the late reply (I had a crazy weekend). Also, I can't comment back to each of you but I really enoyed reading all the comments.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that you loved the tiered cami on me. I agree it doesn't look that bad in the pics but the tiers were really adding volume ...
casual-crew, thank you! I'm really happy that my review has been helpful.
Re the cadet cardigan, I don't reccomend to size up. It's pretty roomy. I bought the smallest size (XS) but I couldn't go smaller and compare. It's a little bit long in the sleeves and I have to wear it cuffed.
dinagedeon (and mrs.anketell), it's getting more and more difficult to go shopping with my daughter for the simple reason that the stopped sleeping in the stroller for hours (unless she's really, really, tired) and the problem is that as you probably remember as you enter the Collection store you have a flight of stairs down and I have to take her out of the stroller, so then she's free (when she's asleep I "park" her at the entrance).
chanel fashionista, the funnelneck cardi is definitively a sweater (it's made in the "dream" yarn that I never tried before, but it's very soft).
ina the flower tee was TTS (they are getting back to true sizing in tees I think). The flowers are dark charcoal with the outlining in black. A little bit overwhelming IMO.
Heidi, thank you! By know you must have tried everything on but yes, I think that that skirt might be too short for you.
Petunia, I saw a lady yesterday at the movies wearing the doggie tee. I almost asked her if she was a JCA ...
Laura, actually I also bought the cords but returned them the day after because I prefer to wait a little bit to be sure of the size. You never know, after a vacation in Paris I could put on some weight and I would hate not be able to wear my cords!
Thanks for posting these pics! I actually agree with you. You are tiny and the tiered top is adding weight at the bottom and really looks too long on you...smart choice to leave it. I also think that you can find these for less $ with a less over-whelming fit at some other stores. IMO..it's not that "special".
ReplyDeleteI bought the dog tee and love the skirt but they didn't have my size. I will be checking back on that!
Thanks for the great tips for Fall buying--those are truly great things to keep in mind. I feel the same way about the jackets/blazers. There's not a lot of time to actually WEAR these things before it's too cold and I am not a fan of wearing blazer under a coat unless necessity.
