Ready for the Playa

So today I'm packing for our vacation in the Hamptons and I have rarely been so behind in my packing. I mean that even if I am a chronically last-minute person and by definition I always have something that I have to add or do at the very, well, last minute, at least I generally start early, while this time around I have just started and when you have a young child you know that choosing the clothes that you're going to bring is only the beginning of the task, there is just so much stuff that you have to think of. As if I hadn't enough things to get done by tonight, my daughter managed to lose her blanket while we were running errands this morning so now I have to go back to each store that we went in to see if someone found it.

So this is going to be a quick post. I'm packing very casual outfits (we'll hang out more in the Montauk area as we are staying in a beach motel between Amagansett and Montauk), mostly shorts, beach dresses and casual capris. The only more dressy exception is going to be the Playa dress, that I bought on sale for $79 (before the 20% off) and I haven't worn yet.
I was surprised that this dress didn't sell out immediately as soon as it went on sale as it is, in my humble opinion, one of the most flattering dresses ever made. It looks gorgeous on everyone that I've seen trying it on IRL and in the blogosphere.
You could think before trying it on that the tiers would add volume, but in fact the effect it's slimming:

I also like that the flower is removable (it's only tied on the strap), so that is not going to be a problem if you want to wear it with a cardigan (here with the ATL cardigan that I had bought to wear with Havona):

Another item that I bought recently in FS and I'm packing is the Jackarta skirt. When I tried this skirt at full price I found it being really short in my size but I bought a size 2 on sale (it was the only one), which in the end fits me better, even if it'a little bit loose in the waist. I tried with a perfect fit crewneck tee in navy but I think that I'm going to wear it with a white top on vacation.

I really like this print and I'm pretty happy that I found this skirt for $31.99.

The last item that I'm going to put in my suitcase and I wanted to show you is this BR striped dress, that I bought back on the 4th of July weekend. The price, at $59, was a little bit steep for, basically, a long tee but I had a 20% off coupon and a store credit, and I really liked it. It's the kind of dress that you put on to go for a stroll after the beach (it's a tad short to be worn in the city IMO). I was surprised to see that this one was still full price last week.

I won't have access to my computer while I'm on vacation so I will catch up upon my return in a week or so. Anyway, I won't be doing any shopping (and is going to be all good that I won't be able to check the Jcrew site for popbacks every morning, habit that is really becoming an annoying addiction) even if I hope that I will be able to visit the East Hamptons JCrew store, which I'm pretty curious about (but the problem is going to be convincing my husband to drive me there, as I can't drive in the US).

Have a wonderful week everyone!

  5. Have a great trip! I think you're right about wearing the Jakarta skirt with a light colored top...then in the fall you can switch to a dark color and put tights underneath. I really like the Playa dress on you, and I think it's perfect for the Hamptons...you can wear it out to eat and look nice but not too fancy. I really really like it with that ATL cardigan too, the colors contrast so beautifully!
