JCrew New Arrivals (Part 3): Dressy Stuff

I hope that I'm not annoying you with these posts. The fact is that last week I had a lot of time in my hands as my husband was travelling for work (don't be sorry for him, he was in Rio de Janeiro drinking mojitos and cahipirinas!) so I kept going back to Jcrew as a therapy against loneliness. But I have been good, I didn't buy anything besides a couple of tees and the "Farrow" top.
By now many of you have made the trip to a store, but I hope that my pics are useful for those who don't live anywhere near a store or have stores with limited merchandise.

During these trips, I've tried more dressier stuff, starting with the Silk crescent-collar cami in deep rose. The color is more of a cooper, not sure why they called it "rose":

The sizing is perfect, no armholes sticking out and because of the heavy fabric it doesn't fly away from the body:

It's a nice cami, perfectly fitted but I don't need anything like that.

Don't laugh at this one. I wanted to give the flannel boyfriend blazer a try but I should have tried it with pants:

The skirt in these pics is the Hammered silk skirt in light graphite. I had high expectations for this skirt but I didn't like it on me, I think because the pockets create a pooch not very flattering (I'm trying a size 2 in this pic because the 0 was sold-out in the store but I found one in another store and still didn't like it on. Anyway it runs BIG, the 0 would have needed an alteration).

Then I tried the "Midnight" cami (cami in the same fabric of the Midnight dress, it must be retail-only for the time being). Here too the sizing is good:

I did try Midnight dress (no pics, sorry) but I didn't like the fit (it's a little bit high-weisted) and the rosettes on the front are overwhelming IMO.

Then it's the turn of the Silk evening Primrose Brynn dress. I really wanted to try the poplin one in the warm wisteria color but it's not in the stores yet (they only carried the black version) so I tried the silk Primrose print. This runs TTS to small IMO, I could barely button the zip up:

I wasn't carried away, again because it's not defined in the weist area. But check it out on Summerilla, she looks great in it.

I also tried the Primrose cardigan and it runs TTS to big IMO. The XS was fitted (especially in the arms) but there was no gasping at the button holes and the S was a little bit roomier than usual but looked still like my size.

Someone mentionned that the fit of theTextured jersey open crewneck painter tee was great, so I tried it even if I didn't want to spend $29.50 in yet another plain tee (sorry no pics, the battery of my camera died at some point). It is absolutely true, the fit is FANTASTIC but it runs SMALL, the S was very fitted. The pale lilac color is to die for and I will surely look for it when it goes on sale. I would reccomend to size up.

I came out of the store with the already (un)famous "Headache tee". I love the color (weathered stone), and here is a pic of the beading:

Thank you to mrs.anketell, susan and gigiofca for letting me know about this tee.
Here I'm wearing it with the "Forever" cardigan. I really liked this cardigan, quite surprisingly because as many commented is very long and I thought that it wouldn't look good on a petite. However, I like how it falls down and it's perfect for layering and to wear with skinny jeans.

I didn't want to spend $89.50 on it though so I didn't buy it. I'm almost sure that I will find it on sale and because of the weight this can be worn later in the season.

That's pretty much it. I don't think that there is anything left in this roll-out that I want to try. By the way, there was no lace cami left at the Soho store, it's gone for good, sorry ladies! And the captain tee was selling out very fast, especially the navy one (XS was sold out in two stores). But instead of this one I picked up two striped short-sleeves tees at the Gap with the 30% off coupon (post to come).
As usual I will be happy to answer your questions if I can!

  1. Hi Ema - do you happen to have the numbers for the headache tee and the midnight cami? I would love to get them, but know I need the numbers before I start calling around!

  5. kater, I'm sorry I didn't get the number of the midnight cami. I thought that it was also offered on the Internet but I couldn't find it when I checked.

    Law and fashion, thanks.

Gigi, thanks on kater's behalf ;-).

Susan, I'm sorry, I can't remember, but it was below $100 for sure ($88 or $98).

  6. Yay!! You got the Headache Tee!! Isn't it pretty and soft and perfect for summer and fall and ---well, forever. Speaking of forever, not loving the forever cardigan, for that current price. May be worth it, if the sweater goes on sale. Oh, and the Headache Tee looks super cute with white jeans. Wore that outfit Sat. night:)

  7. The silk pieces are too wrinkly, imo. I get the look but I'm not digging it. I like the midnight rose cami on you. That's beautiful. And the long sweater looks great, too.

  9. Thanks for these reviews. They are so super for me as I am JC obsessed yet live in Canada where we are cursed to have NO stores, aghh.
I am glad you tried the flannel boyfriend blazer. It was on my list but it looks kinda cheapie, and maybe a little shapeless? Is it true?
I also (like Gigi)do not care for the hammered, wrinkled silk effect on the Frances cami, that would annoy me. Glad to see it in RL.
    Thanks, Ema!

  10. Ema thanks for your reviews of the fall rollout, they are helpful. I also live in Canada, and do not have a passport so I cannot get to a US store to try things on.

  11. mrs.anketell, yes I grabbed one. However, I must say that the slub cotton crewneck tees aren't very flattering on my chest (they make it look completely flat). I have to try it with a padded bra to see if I feel less like a 12 year-old. Besides this, it's a great tee, thank you again. I forgot to mention that this time I did see/try the Tissue beaded crest tee in champagne but for the price I preferred this one (and the cream/green combination is very difficult to pair with).

Gigi, I like the print of the midnight rose cami but I'm a little bit tired of ruffled collars (although this one has a rosette on the side that is kind of original and cute).

    Momoberry, thank you!

Dani BP, thank you, I'm happy if these posts can help someone. I have only recently started to order on the website and I have to say that sometimes things look completely different IRL.
The flanner blazer is a little bit shapeless (but it could be a problem of sizing, I've tried a 0 and I'm probably a 00 or petite) but truth to be told, it doesn't feel cheap at all, quite the opposite. The flannel is quite luxurious, all in all I think that it's worth the price.

casual-crew, thank you! Come back soon.

  12. Love the midnight cami it's very cute, I don't remember seeing it in stores though. I really wish I had bought the captain tee in navy when I was there because I just love it!

  14. thanks for the number gigi!

ema - one more question - do you remember if the shirt was sized numerically, or small, med., large etc??? Sorry for the incessant questioning, but I would really like to try and find one, and the more info I have for the "crewless" SAs the better! TIA!

  16. Thanks for reviewing all these items! I am especially excited to try the Eden blazer in petite :) I am also wanting to see some of the embellished tees IRL. I am headed to my local B&M on Wednesday to see more of the new arrivals :)

  17. Summerilla, I'm sure I wil regret not buying it too.

kater, that I can answer ;-). It came in numerical sizes and I've tried a 0.

    Petunia, thank you!

audreybella, I think that the skirt could work if you're really really skinny (but it would still need an altertion).

GingerSnap, thank you and happy shopping!

  19. Thanks for the advice re the blazer. Just may have to order since the fabric is so nice. I looked at your RL pic again and I can see it is fitted, you probably do need a 00 because you are tiny!
    Thanks Ema!

  20. Ema,I need your help please :) which B&M store did you go to that had the Midnight cami? My B&M doesn't have it, so maybe I'll have luck ordering it from yours :) Thank you!

  21. hey momoberry - I had jcrew do it a we will find it for you search for this top, and allegedly, it's on its way to me! I called from home and just explained that the top wasn't in my store (which it wasn't) and it's not online, and using that service saves you shipping. The item number for the top is 17141.

If you'd like to find it on your own though, mine looks like it came from the Boston area from the tracking number. Maybe the Copley store?

    HTH!
