Some New Arrivals: IRL Pics

I went into Jcrew yesterday to sort out my bubble necklace mess (I'm double bummed because I had to place another order and today is 20% off. GRRR) and I tried some of the new arrivals on. Not many because my daughter was hysterical, but I wanted to share the pics anyway.

First, the much talked about Dream Tori ruffle cardigan. To be honest with you, I didn't recognized it (I mean I thought that I had tried another cardigan but when I came home and looked for it on the website I realized that it was the Tori), it looks completely different IRL, as many JCAs already said on the JCA post about the new arrivals.
Maybe it's the color, I tried the black in XS:

As you can see the taffeta trim is not that ruffled, but personally I liked it more this way, I think it's going to better stand the test of time. Size-wise I would say that it's TTS. I think that it's a really nice cardigan and is going to be a holiday favorite.

Another evening cardigan that I really wanted to try on when I saw it earlier this week, is this tuxedo-like merino cardigan:

This one is retail-only and the price is $118. I have to say that I liked it better on the hanger than on, I found it a little bit somber (there isn't enough contrast between the sateen around the collar and the merino IMO), but maybe with a nice sparkling top and/or bottom is going to look different. The fit is TTS (I have tried a XS) but the sleeves were a little bit long as you can see in the second pic.

The third item wasn't part of the new rollout but I hadn't seen it before and I REALLY liked it. It's the Wool ribbon ravine dress. I wasn't interested in it (I have tried by request of a reader) until I tried it on. This is the rosebud color (more salmon than pinkish IMO) in a 0:

And detail of the neckline:

As the website description says, the edges of the ribbon trim are raw but it doesn't look as they are fraying. The 0 was a little bit loose in the bodice and a little bit longer than on the model but this dress comes in petite (BTW, the crewless SA told me that it didn't), so keep that in mind if you want to order it. I think that the rosebud is a beautiful color for the holidays and I'm definitively going to get this at some point.

The last item that I tried on is another in-store-only cardigan. Ruffles again but quite nice. It's a little bit this year (=ruffled) version of the Lea IMO. I'm sorry for the "ruffles over ribbon" pic but my daughter was throwing stuff in the mirror and I was in a hurry to get out of the fitting room before a SA would come in and ask what was all that noise:

This one came in a plethora of colors (I saw a light berry and a mustard) and the price was $89.50 if I'm not wrong.
I also saw the new Merino watercolor leopard cardigan and if you want to order this one beware of the fact that there is a bright blue component much more pronounced than it shows in the website pics (it's quite beautiful though).

That's it for now. If you have any questions let me know. I have to go back later today or tomorrow for my bubble necklace (they couldn't process the return, triple bummer), so if you are interested in any of the retail-only cardigans I will take note of the style number.

Have a great weekend!

  1. i'm laughing at your daughter throwing things at the mirror. i remember those days!!! my son would crawl under the racks of clothing and throw a fit. Thanks for posting. The one ruffled cardigan reminds me so much of my lombard cardigan, so it's a pass. The only thing that I just had to have was the ARAN isle scarf..LOVE It and all of the other beautiful scaves the store had on display. Have a great weekend

  2. Hilarious post, Ema! Between your daughter throwing stuff and the "Crewless" SA, pure comedy!
I love that dress, I was wondering about it. It looks beautiful on. Great color. I'll guess I'll be keeping my eye on that one!

  4. you are right that the tori looks very different on. I saw it on a manequin all unbuttoned and the ruffles really stood out. didn't try it on though. I was surprised to hear the negative reviews of this cardi after seeing the manequin.

  5. ha, ha- Good thing I don't live in NY because I can't imagine the damage that your daughter and my 2 kids could do to that store! Phew! :-P LOL! It's really gotta be pretty boring for the kiddos though. :D

Thanks for sharing these. I haven't made it to the b&m yet for these new arrivals so I appreciate *seeing* them here!

  6. Not loving any of these for various reasons (the dress is nice I just don't wear them;) You grabbed some great stuff at the sample sale and thanks for the rose t-shirt info..they're holding one for me at my store, now:)

  7. thanks for the IRL! Did you see the Tori in the grey? Did the tuxedo blazer sweater come in other colors (navy?)

    TIA!

  8. Ema: I have a quick question about the Script coat you bought at the Sample Sale. Does it have a "Collection" tag? It is in the Collection line-up online, yet the blurb on it doesn't read "Part of the JC Collection". Obscure detail I know ;) TIA!

  9. What shoes are you wearing with your black tights and the rosebud dress?

    They look really cute!

I've been looking for something similar. Thanks!

  10. Patina, yes I think I will remember these days too. I haven't seen the ARAN isle scarf yet but it looks nice.

Dani, thanks. The script coat is not a Collection item. They happened to have it at the Collection store yesterday and quite interestingly it was $20 cheaper than online...

Ina, thanks. I will look for the item number tomorrow (I couldn't go today). I'm not sure which scarf you're interested in, is it the printed wool wrap (20496)? I haven't seen it IRL, sorry (I haven't seen any new scarf actually).

crewlade drinka (love your name), now I'm really curious to see if the grey looks more like in the pics...

MMM, thank you. I guess that the kids have fun pretty much everywhere...

sweetsy, I agree, I wasn't carried away by any of these (besides the dress). I'm happy that you found the tee.

jcbellemarie, no I haven't see the Tori in grey yet. And I have only seen the tuxedo sweater in black but I didn't ask.

pixel girl, the shoes are one of the Marjorie flats that I bought at the sample sale. They the metallic-leather version in the metallic graphite and they are still FP online (clic here

  12. P.S. Look forward to your reviews. It's very helpful! Sometimes clothes look great on the site, but not so much in real life.

  13. Thanks, Ema, for the pics. Funny about your daughter. :) I think the dress is very flattering on you. It's nice to see the retail-only merchandise.

There are a few items that caught my eye in this roll out, but in general i didn't see much that interested me. I am curious to see the leopard cardigan though.

  14. I think I still like the Tori....not sure yet. I am digging longer cardigans this this, so this one looks perfect for me. Although, I think I would like the gray color better. THANKS SO MUCH for posting new arrival pic's:) You are a doll.

  15. Hope you can get it sorted out wiht the bubble necklace!

I WANTED to love the tuxedo cardi. I thought it would be perfect for already-busy outfits, but it hung so weirdly on me. The arms fit perfectly, but the body was way too boxy. Sad. It looks really nice on you!

LOVE the dress! I didn't see that at my store and definitely will look out for it next time.

Laughing at your daughter also. I have definitely BTDT. My entourage ASKS to go to JCrew, but the fun only lasts for so long. Fortunately, my PS is so sweet and pulls out the mini water and stickers as soon as he sees us. That buys me some time....as does endlessly locking and unlocking the fitting room door... :)
