Anyway, one morning I was at my computer early enough to snatch up a Brynn dress in warm wisteria for the quite incredible price of $39.99. I had tried it twice in a 0 in the evening primrose print but something was off with it. Then when it went on sale I tried it in a size 2 in the warm wisteria color and liked it better but it was a little bit loose in the bodice, so I made a mental note that as soon as the price would come down a little bit more I should order a 2P. Well, I wasn't expecting the price to go down from $99 to $39.99 but it took me less than 30 seconds to acknowledge the new price, see that the 2P was one of the few sizes still available, put it in my cart and check it out (thanks no minimum shipping code number 3).
I was almost sure that I would get a cancellation email but it did ship, and it wasn't even broken or stained, just a little bit wrinkled.
Now I think that it's a beautiful dress but I'm wondering if it's too short or too young-looking for me? Basically I like it but, am I going to wear it? I know, how could you know? But in your opinion where could I wear this dress to? I have a wedding coming up but it's in MAY next year and I'm sure that I'm going to use the excuse of the wedding to buy me another dress in the spring. Those of you who have this dress, did you wear it so far? I think that the evening primrose print is more easy to dress down for a drink or evening out with friends or even the office (with a jacket), while the solid colors are more "occasion" or party dresses.

Should I keep it and just wait for the right occasion to wear it or return it? Keep in my that I paid the price of a tee shirt for it.
A few weeks ago, on the aftermath of my wedding outfit dilemma, I started to look for a "any occasion" black dress to have just in case and I bought this simple Zara dress. At that time $59 sounded like a good price. I liked that it has a timeless shape, without being a sheat dress. It's a lace overlay pullover, with an elastic band at the waist. Kind of classic-classy, but not a fun dress (at least without accessories - and I can't think of anything but pearls with this dress):

It is surely more wearable than the Brynn dress and I think that I will get more wear out of it but I'm also less excited about it.
I understand that these are two completely different dresses but I don't feel like keeping both. Which one should I keep in your opinion (if I should keep one at all)?
Well, I am having a big laugh about your JCrew insomnia in anticipation of the updates! It is so thrilling to find a popback or an update featuring a great price. I know it! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think you should keep the Brynn dress. I love the color, and though it may not seem as practical, you could potentially get lots of wear out of it. You could also wear it with a cardigan or a little jacket, it would be so pretty. You could wear it with flats or heels, depending on if you were interested in dressing it up or down. It looks great on you! Keep it!!
I would keep the Brynn but if you do decide to return it, I'll buy it from you. Let me know.
ReplyDeleteKeep the Bryn, wear it with a longer cardigan and it won't look too young. Black dress doesn't suit you as well!
ReplyDeleteI think the Brynn looks incredible on you!
ReplyDeleteWatch out, you'll be the next cougar on the block in that one!

I think the Brynn dress looks fab on you! I actually ordered it last week for the incredible $39.99 price too!! Now I am wondering if I am *really* actually ever going to wear it!?!? I think I will end up keeping it though! It might just be one of those fun dresses that I take on vacation w/ me! :) The color is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI was laughing so hard at your "JCrew insomnia" story! Ha~ I feel the same way sometimes! :-P Ohhh, the things we do for the Crew! ;)
Mindy: FFM is selling her size 2 on the JCA blog exchange! I think she is asking $60 shipped (?)! I can get you more info if you would like it! :)
I would keep the Brynn - it is so lovely on you. You can always find another black dress.
ReplyDeleteYou MUST keep the Brynn dress - it looks wonderful on you (and what a deal too) - the color is gorgeous! I can just picture you wearing this to 1000 things - you can totally dress it down with flats or spruce it up of a night out! This is a must keep :)
ReplyDeleteI can so relate to your JCrew insomnia...I've had my share but these days with the end of summer time it's hard for me to stay up or wake up at that time of year. Darn West Coast time!
ReplyDeleteKeep the Brynn dress cause it looks great on you. I ordered it in a petite size but it was just too short for me. I ended buying the black one at the store but I'm still in search of Warm Wisteria color in sz 4. I'm planning on wearing with pretty patterned tights and cardigan/black denim jacket. :-)
The first dress looks great! Keep it! You'll find something to wear it to!
ReplyDeleteI love the FB no min shipping!
Warm wisteria is my absolute fav color from JC this fall. So I'm biased towards the Brynn dress. Aside from the gorgeous color though it looks AMAZING on you. Youthful yes, but in a good way. Definitely keep it. You can easily accessorize it with necklaces, shawls, sweaters, depending on the occasion and how much coverage you want. The black dress is pretty too but not as fun as the Brynn.
ReplyDeleteLove the Brynn on you - it's so perfect! Keep it. You can wear it now with sweaters and still wear it in the summer/spring with sandals. It's such a versatile piece I wish I had bought it in that color too.
ReplyDeleteThe black dress is okay but I just love the Brynn on you!
MMM: Thanks for the heads up seven up! hehehe
ReplyDeletei agree with everybody else.keep the brynn dress.
ReplyDeleteits georgious!
I also think the Brynn dress looks the best on you, but if you don't think you will actually wear it, then you should return it. That's just another $40 you could spend on something you know for sure you will wear. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually plan to wear my Brynn with the Jackie cardigan in Champagne, Cole Haan Fiona pumps in the neutral *Naked Calf* color, and Heirloom Flora earrings/necklace set...it looks very pretty IRL. I think it will also be cute with flat sandals and a scarf next Spring/Summer.
I purchased the Brynn in a P2 and P4 but have decided that the P4 looks best on me, so I'll be keeping that one. I listed the P2 on the JCA Weekly exchange for $50 (to cover what I paid, plus shipping and paypal fees) if anyone is interested. Otherwise I'll be returning it to the store later this week. :)
If you don't love it, it doesn't matter what you paid for it you should not keep it. I remember that one shoulder pale pink dress of yours - so so so incredibly stunning. If you don't "feel" it now with either of these dresses, chances are you never will. Keep looking, you will find something that makes you go WOW.
ReplyDeleteI love the Brynn on you! The black pumps look great but I think gold strappy sandals would be fabulous as well.

Love the Brynn on you..could be fun with the ocelot cardi, a long cardi, a wrap. Dressed up or down it's a $40 dollar keeper.
ReplyDeleteKeep the Brynn dress! Definitely! It is so versatile and you will end up getting lots of wear. It looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI like both dresses for different reasons. I'll admit the black one is more somber and perhaps a bit more classic while the Brynn is fun. Please let us know what you decide.
