Hello everybody! I had another post in mind for you today but since there is a little bit of excitement in the air for the JCrew latest arrivals that hit the store today, I thought that I would just go ahead and post the pics that I took during my visit to the store this morning. My store hadn't received any new pencil skirt featured in the catalog, nor the item that I was most curious (and excited about), the cafe capri in camel plaid so that was disappointing. However I had a few (good) surprises and I hope that you will agree with me!
I have a lot of pics so tonight I am going to post only about the most talked-about items and the ones that I really liked and I will continue tomorrow.
The item that was a big surprise for me is the Chiffon top in hothouse floral. I didn't care at all for this top or the print when I saw it online and in the catalog, it read too springy for the season and difficult to wear. Well, what I didn't know is that this top makes my face glow, the colors are much more saturated IRL than in the Catalog pics (I don't think the model in the Catalog wears it well BTW) and it is just crazy beautiful. This is my regular 0. I see that it is more fitted on the model than on me, so maybe you could size down but when I tried it on I thought it was the right size and I didn't even think of asking for a 00 (I am saying this as an afterthought):
Before I show you more pics of this beautiful blouse, I just want to point out that I am wearing the Toothpick jeans in velvet in the navy colorway. I tried them because I wanted to replace an old pair of navy toothpicks and WOW! I didn't want to take them off. They are very soft and comfortable (as far as toothpicks go) and fit like a glove. This is my regular 26. I had heard about the toothpicks being cut smaller this year but not these IMO. The great thing about them is that, unlike regular cords, they can be dressed up for the evening:
Another pair of toothpicks that were much better on than on the hanger are the Toothpick cords in ribbon bow print. I tried these on only for the blog but they were insanely flattering. This is, again a 26 (with the merino turtleneck in a XS):
I really liked them but I couldn't figure out where I would wear them. They are the perfect pair to unwrap presents at Christmas but I don't think I need a pair of pants especially for that (not to mention that my daughter usually wakes up at 6 on Xmas Day so we open presents in our pajamas). I am also a bit over the kelly green, as I wore this color a lot in the summer (they also read a little bit Lilly Pulitzer IMO). If you are daring though, I highly reccomend them.
Next, the Fair isle ski sweater. This sweater is pretty substantial but it looks machine-made if it makes sense (it doesn't look like a hand knit at all).
It isn't a fitted style sweater so I would say that it runs TTS. What bothered me is that the yoke is knit in a way that made it uncomfortable for me (it was tight around my shoulders like I was wearing a large and heavy bib). There is also a big seam pretty unflattering on the sleeves:
Last item for tonight is the controversial La Parisienne sweater (aka, the yeti-woman). My ps was excited about this one so I tried it on. Of course I like the color but that's about it. I never tried the hen nor the bulldog but I guess the fit and fabric is the same (this one in particular was shredding, or releasing in the air, little fluffy balls of yarn):
What do you think of these new arrivals? Are you interested in any of these? More to follow...
Now that I see the green blouse on you, I am going to go back and take a closer look. I love the navy velveteen, and they look great on you. I just fit into the matchsticks better than the toothpicks-wait, that sounds crazy! I did think they were a beautiful color when I saw them and I love navy , ivory, and black for the holidays. Thanks for the great reviews.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the matchsticks versus toothpicks, it really depends on your body type. I tried a pair of matchsticks (cords) because I thought that I was a bit tired of toothpicks and the last pair that I bought was three years ago and I just like the toothpicks better on me.
DeleteI wanted to try the plaid capris too but they say online only:( My store did not have either of the other 2 capris I wanted to try: Abstract diamond (love!), and graphic tweed (want even though it is crazy $$$). I would love to see a review! I will try the bow pant but I really don't like the toothpick. The only piece I tried today was the same fair isle sweater you tried. I love the color but the fit is odd with this type of sleeve. I felt like if I raised my arms, the whole thing would roll up like a window shade! Maybe when it makes it to a big markdown.
ReplyDeleteI tried the abstract diamond this morning (will put up pics later) and they run really big. I sized down to a 00 and tgere was still room. I preferred the look of the etched plaid ones.
DeleteThe fair isle sweater has the same fit than the cashmere one from last year, that I didn't like for the same reason.
Can't wait to see those capris. My ps said my store won't be getting them so I'll just have to try them on via you.
DeleteThanks Ema, I had nothing to read over breakfast and these posts are such a treat with coffee. The velveteen trousers are lovely on you and I bet the crazy French jumper will sell out.
ReplyDeleteGlad to sweeten your breakfast, Tabs. I had to think hard before I realized what the "french jumper" was. We don't use that word for sweaters around here!
DeleteHI Ema,
ReplyDeleteI must say you are selling me on the blouse! I did not like it at all on the web or in the catalogue, but once I have seen it on you and Rynetta, am changing my mind!
I love those velvet jeans in navy. They are now going on my list for sure!!! I like the green pants, but I agree - so limited. As for the parisian lady sweater, I find it odd - there has to be a story behind its design that includes a couple of shots of tequila...
The fair isle is a lot. It reminds me too much of the 80s (maybe I should wear it whilst stalking Andrew McCarthy?) so I have to let those go on without me!
Thanks so much for the great pictures!
Now you will really want to kill me but I saw hom again this morning, having breakfast outside of another coffee place. I am starting to like him (Ok, he is cute). I will provide you with a "stalking" map!
DeleteThanks Ema. You're right that blouse is beautiful and the pants are super-flattering on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dani. I won't try to enable you on the blouse because it is (partially) lined in poly and I know that you don't like that. I am more forgiving, as you know!
DeleteOooh, lots of fun stuff; thanks for the reviews, Ema! I'm pleasantly surprised by how the fair isle sweater looks IRL, but I'm going to have to check how the fit is on me. If it doesn't work on you, I'm afraid I don't have terribly high hopes for myself considering my wide shoulders. I really want the velvet pants to work out as I love both the pink and red colors, so I'm hoping to hear from others that they don't fall apart after one wear :-/.
ReplyDeleteI love love love the bow toothpicks and picked them up. I can't wait to wear them!
ReplyDeleteEma, Everything looks great on you! I have the hothouse blouse arriving today. I will have to wait for my rewards card (!) to come in before I can purchase it to keep, but I have a feeling I will love it, too! Love the navy velvet toothpicks, also. I have a green plaid satin clutch with a navy velvet closure and a navy velvet beaded sash belt--both from "way back when"--that would be great with them! The bow toothpicks are adorable, too, (and super flattering on you as you said!) but I'd be afraid I wouldn't get enough wear out of them. Thanks for the reviews! :)
ReplyDeleteThat blouse looks better on you than on any other person I've seen, catalog models included. You got the right size. It was not meant to be worn tight.
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI was just blog hopping and came across your post. I was wondering where your boots are from? I happen to be looking for some Chelsea boots atm and yours look very nice on you!
They are from Zara (last year but I think they have a similar style this year too). HTH!
