One day last week I woke up wanting a Tippi in leopard, the one from last year. Does it happen to you, this kind of cravings (Jcravings)? I kicked myself for not buying one at the end of the winter when they had that crazy sweater sale and they were selling for next to nothing (what was I thinking?) but too late for that. After scouting ebay and the JCA Weekly exchange I started to look for other options. I looked at the factory website and while there is a Jackie-style cardigan that looks exactly like the leopard Tippi I am not a cardigan person and I decided to order the Factory Charlie sweater in leopard instead. I know that it is a cotton sweater while the Tippi was merino but it is still hot here in NYC so I thought I could still get a little bit of wear out of it under a blazer. It wasn't a deciding factor but the color name of this one ("pretty kitty") really makes me smile. My daughter has been watching this Hello Kitty DVD where Hello Kitty and their friends are actors and play different characters in revisited versions of classic fairytales ("Cinderkitty" is one of the episodes) and the word "kitty" is repeated by the cat who plays the witch in a meowing way through the DVD (which is totally creepy BTW), so now I can't help thinking of it when I see "kitty".
Anyway, I ordered it with the 25% off and it arrived at the end of last week. Even if it doesn't have those bands of darker color that made the retail Tippi more special, I immediately loved it. It is so soft and comfortable to wear (it feels like pima cotton) and I really like the fit. I wore it Saturday all day inside the apartment to make tiramisu and other domestic chores (so I didn't actually wear the bubble necklace but I loved the look, it will be a great spring outfit with white jeans):
Close-up of the print (the colors are charcoal and an olive green):
I am glad that I took the plunge and ordered this but it is a sweater for early Fall and I am still looking for a merino Tippi for later in the season, so if you have one in a XS that is taking up space in your closet I will be happy to buy it from you.
Yesterday we went as a family to the Metropolitan museum to see the Andy Warhol exhibit. "See" it's an overstatement, we raced through the galleries because my daughter had only one thing in her mind: ice cream. She usually loves museums and the Met in particular but yesterday it wasn't a good day. The only work of art that picked briefly her interest (and interrupted her litany of "when are we going to get ice-cream?") was the pile of wrapped candies by artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres that museum-goers are invited to pick up and eat (only one per person!)
My sleeping mom instinct woke up just in time to realize that anybody could have thrown a poisoned/drugged/half-chewed candy in the pile and stop her from eating it (I know that this is conceptual art and the candies aren't the original candies from when the artwork was conceived in 1991 but still I don't know where those candies come from and I wouldn't let my daughter pick up a candy in the street and eat it so why should I do it in a museum). Of course my taking the candy out of her mouth only contributed to aggravate the situation and her impatience to get the ice-cream.
There were so many tourists that one can barely see anything anyway so I will go back one morning to really savour the exhibit (you might not know that the ticket price of $20 is only a suggested donation, $1 or $2 will do).
Anyway this is the time of the year when I love to wear a plaid shirt, in particular the Carmichael popover from two years ago. I really love this shirt but I am always at a loss as how to style it because if I just throw it on a pair of jeans or cords I feel like I was headed to Brokeback Mountain and I lost my way. Well, I am happy to tell you that I found another use for my new Zara eagle necklace. It looks great worn over the collar of the shirt and all of a sudden I feel stylish (a stylish cowgirl):
My husband was horrified at first but as it often happens when he sees me so happy to wear something even if he doesn't approve of it, he just rolled his eyes and let it go.
Do you have any leopard sweater? How do you like my cowgirl look? Have you seen the Warhol exhibit?

I don;t have a leopard sweater but I like this one on you. I think my leopard pencil skirt is the same print.
ReplyDeleteI don;t wear plaid shirts because of the same reasons, too cow girl, lunberjack or something but I like it with the necklace, good trick!
Oh and the candy, I would be the same way, saying 'sure, have one', then realizing 'what was i thinking' and grabbing it out of her mouth with her screaming 'you said I can have it!!!'.
ReplyDeletelol
I would also have grabbed the candy in horror after first being dazzled by "oh that's fun".
ReplyDeleteI really like this sweater and your styling of that eagle necklace over the popover is perfect. I find that eagle necklace really beautiful, it is very unusual but there's something about it, I can see why you love it!
The factory store has a merino "charley" in a leopard print, too, if you are ever near a factory store!
ReplyDeleteI also regret, that i didnt buy the leopard tippi.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you will find one!
Ema,have you tried this years majesty peacoat?
What size would you buy in that one?
TIA
Like, j crew jd mentioned, the factory is currently offering a merino charley in leopard, I just purchased it a couple of weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteI like that cowgirl look! I've been looking for a necklace to wear over a button-up shirt like that. I don't think I can pull off the eagle, but it looks fantastic on you.
ReplyDeleteEma, the Factory cardi looks so good on you. And I'm telling you, that white bubble necklace is *so* versatile. It has surprised me. I wear it at least twice/week. Well, mine is an ivory knockoff, but still. I'm also looking forward to free shipping from Factory. I hope the new website is a success.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the necklace. Rock it, no matter if there are eye rolls.
Keep sharing exhibits and NY stuff. I have no idea when I'll get there again and I love hearing about them. Even in tidbits.
Sent you an email.
Ema- We would go to the Met much more often if we did not have to pay $80 each time. How do you pay less? I seem to recall going on line and the cashier telling me it was $80 or so dollars- maybe a little less because my boys are students. I love the sweater on you. I think you can wear cotton for all but the very coldest months, especially in those colors. It does look great with the bubble necklace.
ReplyDeleteYou just tell them that you would like to donate x dollars, they can't impose you to pay $20 but most people pay because they don't know. I usually pay $2 when I go with my daughter because I know I won't stay long and I go quite often. HTH!
ReplyDeleteThank you- yes it helps!
