Last Week Outfits (And New Boots!)

I wore a few outfits last week that I liked and I want to share. The weather has been very humid but warm until yesterday, today it is the first day of a real Fall weather with temps in the high 50s.

This one is for Gigi. She asked me where the snake print blouse that I was wearing in the Gap fitting room post comes from. It is from Equipment and I got it during the recent Bloomingdale's F&F. It is my first Equipment and definitively a splurge. I always wanted one but always found that I could find something cheaper somewhere else in the solid colors. I didn't particularly liked their prints so far (in particular the popular stars print) but was immediately drawn to this one, I kept going back and look at it online (and I don't even like snakeskin prints) so when I found one at Bloomi in my size with the 20% off I took the plunge. I love the drape and yes, the black piping at the chest pocket and cuffs. It looks great untucked with skinny jeans:

That day I was wearing my Icon trench as a topper. I decided to keep it for the price and I have to say that I am wearing more than I expected, I thought it would be fussy to wear but it is easy to throw on and I like the proportions on me (wearing a size 2):

In case you are wondering about the boots, they are the Enzo Angiolini Zeric riding boots. I would never have ordered them if I hadn't tried them at Bloomingdales, since I generally go more high-end for shoes but these are amazing for the price. I had just received them from Amazon and was trying them on. They are a jodhpur style and have an elastic in the back:

They look great with pants tucked in but as other noted the shaft is very high and hits at a very weird spot right on the knee. It is more evident in my next outfit, where I was trying them with a skirt (in this case the cavalry skirt from last year);

I am undecided about the boots, I think there is nothing like them for the price but the fact that I can't wear them with skirts is a bummer. In any case this outfit was reading a bit too Mary Poppins for me so I swapped the skirt for skinny cargos and the boots for my old Pradas pumps, added a leopard scarf and an old belt matching the color of the jacket and I was ready to go. Much more like me:

Last outfit of the week that I want to show you is another cowgirl-meets-downtown-chick outfit. I bought the Perfect shirt in buffalo check almost immediately after it rolled out, I loved it that much. I know it got negative reviews because the checks are not black but grey but I loved it for that. However this is another challenging shirt because if worn too casually you are going to look like you are headed for the woods. I was inspired by my own "cowgirl outfit" post so I looked for some accessories to take it up a notch. First I added a vintage necklace (more on this in another post) and a sparkly bracelet that had some western feeling to them, then I decided to wear a black blazer (Mango) and I changed my belt (this is Comptoir des Cotonniers, bought in Paris):

This would have looked better with a pair of booties but it was too hot to wear boots so my Sam Edelman Frankies studded flats had to do.

What do you think? What's your favorite outfit? Do you own an Equipment blouse? What do you think of the Enzo Angiolini Zaric boots?

  1. Ema - google the Duchess of Cambridge at the Calgary Stampede. You have channeled her to w t! Oh to have such a lovely tall and thin torso like you!

I like all of the outfits. I like the boots and I would keep them, as you may fall across a longer skirt along the way and they look so fab with the pants...

    1. You mean the outfit where she is wearing the cowboy hat and the white blouse? That's flattering but I think I look more like William in his plaid shirt!

  2. I don't own an Equipment Blouse, but have admired their beauty. That looks like a very versatile, elegant pattern.

I didn't give the buffalo checked shirt a second look when I saw it on-line, but I love how you have styled it. No 'back woods' look! You've managed to make it look chic. The studded flats were a great choice. I'd like to see more about the necklace and the bracelet. It's hard to see them in the photos.

    1. maryeb, the bracelet is Jcrew from a few season ago (from the FF collection, I think). Actually it is the necklace that I will have a post about soon, it's vintage Ciner, one of my latest obsessions

  3. I think they all look nice but the too-high boots would be a deal breaker for me. I bought a pair of heeled Booker boots from J. Crew last year but returned them because they were hitting too high on me, behind the knee and in front of it. I can't see it that well in your pictures, but if they are bothering you now, I think you aren't going to want to wear them very much. I like what you did with the buffalo checked shirt!

    1. cate, I hear you on the too high boots. My Aigle rainboots are like that and as much as I love them. I feel like I am wearing two pieces of wood around my knee. These are higher on the front than in the back so I can still fold my legs without them cutting through the back of my knee and they don't bother me that much, it is more of an estethical issue.

  4. I love all your outfits but especially the on with Equipment blouse and the one with leopard scarf. Very you and very chic! I have almost bought Equipment blouses couple of times. I always found something for less in the end but their blouses are nicely executed and have great easy drape.

    1. Yes, I love how this blouse drapes and I love that it looks great untucked (unlike many of the JCrew blouses that are often too short or not short enough).

  5. I like the buffalo check shirt because it's more grey than black, it is too "flannel shirty" with black/red if you know what I mean.

  6. I love the blouse. I am not a "snakeskin" person either, but the colors and the touch of piping really make that blouse special. The trench looks great and is so practical. We have more months of trench weather around here than not! If the boots don't work with the outfits you need them for, don't keep them, although Enzo does make a pretty nice shoe. I have the same scarf. Isn't it funny that JCrew sells so many scarves, but it never shows them worn in their ads, or on their mannequins. I actually noticed that neither Vogue, nor Bazaar showed any scarves in their recent issues either, even though all of their retailers carry them.

  8. Thanks for sharing the info, Ema. I have never tried on Equipment, but have seen it online. As you know I am a fellow not-a-snakeskin-lover, but ended up with the JC snakeskin blouse anyway. lol Nix bad boots. You walk too much to have anything that remotely bugs the legs.
