What I Wore And Where I Have Been And Cafe Trousers Review (All in One)!

I am sorry for having gone MIA for a week but I had a very busy week and I was sick for the most part of it (but I had to get going anyway).
I wanted to update you ealier on the outcome of my last post (where I asked you advice on the outfit to wear to the concert and reception). In the end I couldn't wear the silk skirt at all for unclement weather, it was raining that evening and I was too scared of getting a rain stain on it. I wore my Elena dress instead (that doesn't see the light of day, or night, very often either) and it was perfectly appropriate. I think that the blush sweater/silk skirt combo (that I had decided to wear if it hadn't rained) would have been not enough evening as everyone (as usual) was wearing black.
However I finally wore the silk skirt/blush cardigan (buttoned up, as it was chilly) yesterday night to a mom's night out (that was held in a private apartment), so your advice wasn't wasted. Thank you so much to all of you who left a comment! I just want to reply here, to the commenter who suggested the moonbeam blazer, that that would have been perfect but unfortunately the charcoal of the jacket and the blue of the skirt really clash. Bummer but thank you for the suggestion!

Among other things, I had two school tours this week and I wanted to show you what I wore to one of them, not only because I really liked the outfit but because there is a shirt similar to the one that I wore currently on sale in the Factory section of the Jcrew website (with 25% off to boot), in case you missed it last year.
Here is the outfit:

The jumper is JoeFresh and the shirt is Jcrew from last Fall (can't remember the name right now but it is the one that also came in the polka-dots pattern). I love to wear this shirt in the Fall, it is so ... fall-ish (duh!) and I really liked it under the JoeFresh jumper (shoes are uber-old Nine West and the jacket is my Theory jacket that you have already seen in all these "school tours" outfits).
It was the perfect Fall weather and once home, I tossed the jumper (so to speak) and switched to my pants in forest green, also from last year (these were the twill toothpicks, I think):

If you like the print of the shirt and you missed it last year, you might want to consider this one (in the imperscrutable world of the Jrew website, this is "hidden" in the clearance section).

And now a quick review of the cafe trousers in wool that I got recently in the maraschino cherry color (actually, I got them just the day before the start of the 25% off promo but I managed to have a price adjustment, which brings the price down from $150 with tax to a more reasonable $108 with tax).
First, let me say that I fell in love with the maraschino cherry color but if I hadn't seen the pants on a SA in the store I would never have tried them on and I would have probably ordered another pair of cafe capri instead. As a petite I generally don't do well with straight leg pants that sit below the waist as they tend to shorten my legs. Well, not these ones, they actually elongate my legs but I have to wear them with high heels. They fit TTS but I went up a size because I prefer them a bit slouchy to too fitted around the hips and the crotch (admittedly, they gape a bit at the waist, but as I said I prefer them like that).
If you hesitate to order the maraschino cherry color because you are afraid that it will be a difficult color, don't: they are very versatile and go with pretty much everything. Last, the wool is NOT the same wool of the cafe capri: it is a little bit more lightweight but it feels wonderful and it isn't scratchy at all).
So here I am wearing a size 2 (they are not hemmed but I will need to hem them because even with my highest heels they are still too long). Unfortunately my camera can't capture the color, it comes across as a cerise orange but they are a true red (just beautiful). The website picture color is pretty true to life IMO.
I was wearing this striped Zara shirt this morning and it goes very well with the pants (a propos of this shirt, I saw someone wearing it under a blazer the other day and thought "Nice shirt!" and then "Wait, I have that shirt!"):

You can do colorblocking with a peachy-pinky top:

For a holiday flair, you can wear them with the tartan shirt from last year, for those of you that have it (but if you couldn't get it last year you have a second chance as it is back on the website for $78):

And you can add the Fisherman sweater (or other snow-colored sweater):

They obviously look great with the camel cashmere cable too:

I hope that this is going to help if you are on the fence. Did I mention that they actually cover your leg when it gets cold (unlike the cafe capri)?

I will leave you with my "best of the week": I wore my poncho non-stop and it actually looked great with the cafe capri in yatch blue and ballet flats:

OK, sorry for the long post, I had to squeeze a week worth of outfits and shopping in it. I am off to a party this evening (I told you, busy week). Dress code is "Dress to your best" but I actually think that my best best this evening would be my sweat pants.
Have a great weekend!

Are you ordering something with the 25% off promo?

  1. You look great in your outfits. I love those maraschino cherry trousers. I tried them on and would size up too. Not sure if I'm brave enough to wear them as I carry weight in my hips and thighs. I'm probably better off getting another piece in that color - which I love. It is unlikely that I'll buy anything on the promo. A few things I like, but nothing I need right now.

  2. The last outfit looks comfy and cute. I am lusting after the cashmere cable sweater and I'm trying to decide if the 25% promo is as good as it's going to get.

  5. Thanks for the review! I just placed an order for the pearl grey ones, albiet in a petite size (I was absolutely swimming in the regular 0), hoping they'll be just as amazing as they are you!

  6. I bought the Cafe Trouser in maraschino cherry this evening! I went to my local J. Crew just to try them on, intending to buy the caramel color, but the red was just too beautiful to leave behind! I was able to get the 25% off too, which was nice, and saves me from waiting until the end of November since my size is back-ordered online. I also went up one size from my Wool Cafe Capri size.

They look fabulous on you and I can't wait to see how you wear them!

  7. Those are some hot pants! Love them!

I bit on the vintage tweed jacket and another sherpa zip hoodie in the warm walnut colour. I lived in the one I got last winter so I want a second one.

  8. Great outfits!! You look fabulous in red trousers!!! I did purchase the Factory version of that floral blouse. The silk is not the greatest quality - a little rough to the touch - but the print is really pretty so I will hang on to it.
